Just a heads up, the first Shokugeki no Souma or Food Wars came out today digitally in English.

The only true chef in this manga who actually goto "different places" with the "s" in the "place" is Soma's father. All the students are same as Soma who only worked in their family's restaurtant and then enrolled in the school.

His father sent him there because well there are strong chefs there and it highly competitive, so Soma will gained even more knowledge and experience there. So you're partial right in regarding that.

And I get you don't want him to win. Ok. Then let the author make Souma lose in every single match simply because he do not have experience. He will lose to everybody but in the end his cooking skills will perfect despite all those loses. I don't like this development but whatever....

There is no revelation of the winner between Alice and Soma yet. It looks the first part of the chapter focuses on the day before the first round. Soma is training for the competition and make a good bento, there are a long conversasion between him and Sakaki.

well that was kinda expected. Mangaka isnt going to end this in just one or two chs.

Alice for some reason gets into an argument with Erina and gets disqualified before the final verdict and then later on the judges silently whisper something like: "thank god, we didn't have to say which one is better, because they were completely equal in quality!"

Though it would be quite lame, if it really turns out to end like that.

Soma is a joker Alice and Soma personalities complement each other, they have a great chemistry.

Eh, not really. When someone say "bento", people usually think of a small box containing lunch - with varying stuff inside. Dish plate make people think of a high class meal and not an everyday stuff, even if there are bentos in revered restaurant.
