I actually have given up on SAO long time ago. I even thought some fanfictions are way better than the original
but when I found SAO Progressive manga.. I was like "this is it!"

even if it is only a movie.. hopefully it would expand into series
just like Fate UBW and Heavens Feel

So, the anime is not original story. It is based on something. Maybe the story explores Asuna's mental state. Maybe her mind was like Sachi. She feels lonely and she is afraid, but somehow she survives the game.
