I think I'm in the same camp as whoever is running the animesaimoe.org website in terms of just not giving a shit this year. I still don't have a main website for the tournament, and info on the thing is sparse, at best. It seems the organization for it is worse than it has ever been.

And we could be looking at a finals that takes place in November.

Hi, everyone!

Subayai here. Nice to meet you.

I've been following the discussion on 2ch and one of the most discussed topics has been the implementation of some kind of repechage system. Many proposals were considered but the one that seems most likely to be adopted now is the following:

It will involve only the losers to the group winners (8 characters per round). In case of 3,4-characters matches, only the best losers are concerned. The best losers to the group winners in round 1 will face the best losers to group winners in round 2. Then the winners will go against the losers in round 3 and finally against the group finalists. In the repechage, a character from one group can go against a character from any other group. They will be paired randomly.

The winners of the repechage (8 characters) will go against the group winners (also 8 characters) and those who win will go to the quarter-finals. That means that a character that has gone through the repechage could very well end up winning the tournament.

This is not official. This is only what I could put together from the bits and pieces of the discussion. If someone understood it differently, feel free to correct me.

I'm still looking forward to the tournament even if it will start late.
Have fun everyone!

At this point I can't help but wonder if this system, which seems to be more flawed compared to many other repechage/double-elimination systems I know of, is deliberately chosen to avoid using systems that has been used by Best Moe Tournament or ISML.

From the latest update on dates I can find, the current plan seems to indeed run it up to November, with the final being on the 23th.

Finals in November isn't really that unusual. Although, it has typically been early November in the past not late November.

The year I actually start taking interest in this tournament, this has to happen. -_-

Thanks for translating all that.
It seems that due to server down time on the 7/30, the break during the 1st prelims will take place on that day.
So the modified schedule is:

7/24-29: 1st Prelim, Group 1-6
7/30: Break
7/31-8/9: 1st Prelim, Group 7-16

1st Prelim Draw (Text File Only...someone can translate it. I may post interesting battle within a group but that's it)

Group 1: http://j72820.chez-alice.fr/up0/file/u2_001156.txt
Quick Look = Kuroneko v. Toki being the main battle. Masuzu from Oreshura, Minami Kana, Komori from LB are also in here. Other = Suirenji Ruka from Hayate, Shion from GJ-bu (Okay, just personal preference), Nagase Iori from Ijime Kokoro Connect
Group 2: http://j72820.chez-alice.fr/up0/file/u2_001157.txt
Quick Look = No "Top tier" girls here. Well, A-tan is in this group. Notable includes Yozora, Karuta, Nanamin (Although, yeah, anyone expecting Samgye Sakura-sou to be strong in 2ch?). Shiramizu Mairu from Saki makes here debut here.
Group 3: http://j72820.chez-alice.fr/up0/file/u2_001158.txt
Quick Look = I would say Kirino, Chitanda, and Wakana (Tari Tari) are the 3 top guns. The other half of the Shintoji duo in Himeko makes her debut here. Of course, for a GJ-bu fan like me, Megumi and Kirara are in this group
Group 4: http://j72820.chez-alice.fr/up0/file/u2_001159.txt
Quick Look = Top 3 are definitely Rikka (Chuunikoi), Yukino, and Emi (Hataraku Maou-sama). Harapan-san Chibiko Manami is here, as is my favorite Kaichou in Amakusa Shino ()

Group 5: http://j72820.chez-alice.fr/up0/file/u2_001160.txt
Quick Look = Don't see how Niku can lose this group. Dekomori is in this group. Other notables include Nagi (Hayate), Kuroko, Hiro (Hidamari Sketch). On Haganai side Rika and Maria are both in this group
Group 6: http://j72820.chez-alice.fr/up0/file/u2_001161.txt
Quick Look = One of the stronger group so far. Toshino Kyoko, Nodoka, Mokkan, Kuroyukihime being the 1st tier. Index, Takenaka Hanbee, Tamako after that. Hanekawa and Tenri (Kaminomi) rounds out the notable.
Group 7: http://j72820.chez-alice.fr/up0/file/u2_001162.txt
Quick Look = To start, a trio of girls that'll get hate (Biribiri, Azuki Azusa, Mashiro). Saki side there's Captain. Nanoha is here but I've absolutely no clue how strong she is at all. Other notable are Manami Haruka, Hinawari from YRYR, Araragi Karen, Maria from Hayate, Shokuhou Misaki from Railgun.
Group 8: http://j72820.chez-alice.fr/up0/file/u2_001163.txt
Quick Look = MadoMagi finally appears with Homura and Kyoko in this group. Mori-sama from Chuunibyou, Anzu from Garupan, and Kise Yayoi wraps things up pretty much.

Group 9: http://j72820.chez-alice.fr/up0/file/u2_001164.txt
Quick Look = Saki side there's Subara Kirame and IKEDA!. Kotoura-san makes her debut here, Miyanaga Teru Nishizumi Maho from Garupan is in this group. If that's not enough, Nyaruko and Kotori (DAL) are both in this group. Of course, I'm supporting Lovely My Angel all the way. Last but not least, Izumi Konata
Group 10: http://j72820.chez-alice.fr/up0/file/u2_001165.txt
Quick Look = Matsumi Sisters, along with Misaka Sisters (Both 10032 and the "Sisters"). Arata compete with the Matsumi Sisters, Minase Iori (Idolm@ster) is in this group. And everyone's favorite Garupan mascot in Maruyama Saki is also here...
Group 11: http://j72820.chez-alice.fr/up0/file/u2_001166.txt
Quick Look = Sayaka is in this group. Other strong girls include Inaba Himeko, Yoshino (DAL), Kud, Mako (Garupan), Elsie. Teru is the main Saki representative but we all know she's not that strong. Heavily supporting Gokou Tamaki myself. Last but not least, Hiiragi Tsukasa...
Group 12: http://j72820.chez-alice.fr/up0/file/u2_001167.txt
Quick Look = The "other" Railgun duo (Saten-san and Uiharu) fights with each other with Awai (Saki) laughing at them, but then, maybe Hinata (RKB) would just destroy all of them . Other notable include Hoshii Miki, Kumin-senpai (Chuunikoi), Mikasa (I miss her the first run around). Rin and Hanayo from Lovelive! are both also here (I'm 100% sure I'm missing quite a bit of LL girls...)

Group 13: http://j72820.chez-alice.fr/up0/file/u2_001168.txt
Quick Look = Kuuko, Fuyuumi Ai, Tsukihi, Chi-chan, Yuigahama, Last Order being okay strong. Sakurako (YRYR) and Maho (RKB) are in this group. Last but not least, KAGAMI-SAMA!!!!!
Group 14: http://j72820.chez-alice.fr/up0/file/u2_001169.txt
Quick Look = I would say this group is stronger than 6. Nishizumi-dono makes her debut here, but has to fight Asuna (SAO), Honoka (Lovelive!), Kurumi (DAL), Shizuno & Ako (Saki), Ririchiyo-sama, and maybe Tsukiko. Poor Mao (GJ-bu) stands no chance along with Gokou Hinata and Miyako
Group 15: http://j72820.chez-alice.fr/up0/file/u2_001170.txt
Quick Look = Madoka/Mami, Saki, Akiyama-dono...the big 3 factions having an early fight here. While Mikan, Ika-chan, Suguha can just look in the back. Poor Ayano and Kanata (Oreimo) got stuck in this group. On a side note, Majou Charlotte is going to bite Mami's head off...
Group 16: http://j72820.chez-alice.fr/up0/file/u2_001171.txt
Quick Look = Last group, well, Akarin, Kobato, Kodoromo, Umi from Lovelive!. Other notables are Yami (TLR), Chiaki (Minami-ke), Anko (Tamako Market), Funami Yui (YRYR), Shinobu, and maybe Koneko (HS DxD)

Groups 6, 8, 14, 15 and 16 seem to be the strongest groups, I think.

Other characters that might not be very strong but I wanted to look up:
Sasha Braus aka Potato Girl (Shingeki)- Group 1
Takebe Saori (GuP) - Group 2
Katyusha (GuP)- Group 3
Watanabe Saki (Shinsekai yori) - Group 5
Annie Leonhart (Shingeki) - Group 6
Isuzu hana (GuP)- Group 7
Takei Hisa and Kataoka Yuuki (Saki) - Group 8
Hanji Zoe (Shingeki) - Group 10
Ai Haibara (Conan)- Group 13
Christa Renz (Shingeki) - Group 14
Akizuki Maria (Shinsekai yori) - Group 15

Translation done. Took me some time cause on the extra nomination day they added 500 more characters. It's on the same file as before. Two sheets, one ordered by group and the other by series. Once again, if you happen to spot an error, please tell me.

I did miss quite a few first run around anyway...

I mean, Katyusha in 3, Tacos in 8...

Anyway, my ultra early group winner prediction.
Group 1 - It's Kuroneko v. Toki either way. Would give it to Kuroneko just b/c it's still more recent and Toki already won last year (and previous winner never do good...)
Group 2 - I will just say Takebe Saori from a GuP bunch vote. This group is weak overall no matter which angle you look at it.
Group 3 - Chitanda or Kiririn would be my guess. Possibly Saki's Himeko. Oh well, Chitanda that is.
Group 4 - I'll say Rikka 1st, Emi 2nd, Yukino 3rd, Harapan 4th. Again this group is weak outside of the top 3 (and maybe 4 if you count Manami).
Group 5 - Niku 1st, Nagi 2nd. No matter how crappy Hayate anime/manga are recently Nagi usually gets love in AST.
Group 6 - Nodoka 1st, Mokkan 2nd, Hime 3rd. Mokkan is strong but I just don't think she can quite beat Nodocchi in a prelim setting.
Group 7 - Biribiri. She got haters in AST (I believe) but I doubt you can anti that much in prelim anyway.
Group 8 - Homura 1st, Kyoko 2nd, Tacos 3rd, Buchou 4th. A direct battle between Saki and MadoMagi and personally guessing MadoMagi winning it.
Group 9 - Ayase 1st, Subara 2nd...just b/c Lovely My Angel Ayase-tan ga Konna ni Kawaii.
Group 10 - Kuro and Yuu tied for 1st . Quite frankly, outside of the Matsumi sisters and Arata and maybe Iori from Idolm@ster, this group is a joke.
Group 11 - Sayaka. She's nowhere the strongest MadoMagi girl but I just don't see the like of Inaban, Elsie, and Kud winning against her.
Group 12 - Hinata 1st, Saten-san 2nd, Awai 3rd, Uiharu 4th, Miki 5th, Kumin-senpai 6th. Weakest group overall IMO.
Group 13 - Kuuko edging out Chi-chan is my prediction. This group has a fair amount of above-average girls (Yuigahama, Ai-chan Daishouri, Tsukihi, Last Order) that are unlikely to win everything.
Group 14 - Strongest Group IMO. I'll just give GuP the benefit and say Nishizumi-dono proves that GuP is this year's Saki/MadoMagi.
Group 15 - Mami 1st, Madoka 2nd, Saki 3rd, Akiyama-dono 4th. The 2nd direct battle between Saki and MadoMagi, and MadoMagi still win just b/c Saki is not Nodocchi or Toki (or Koromo).
Group 16 - 2nd Strongest Group IMO. I would say Koromo v. Akarin for the group winner, and Akarin shows that it take someone with Toki's strength to beat her.

The final rules is basically what you said, but the underlined part is different. In the end they decided that the 8 block winners from main round and 8 block winners from the recharge blocks will be mixed up together and randomly draw to a final 16 characters 1x1 elimination tournament.

I believe he is joking with the fact that 2002 and 2003 tournaments also had a small repechage system.
