"Toki ni azaru to koe mo tategu kori tokesari ashi wa tsuno gurnu"

Which is supposed to mean something like: until it's time, birds cannot sing (or chirp). Ice melt, grasses flourish?

Sorry, but I cannot make any sense out of it to turn it into kanji. If it is originally a line from an anime, it sounds as if certain characters are dropped from the transliteration while others are twisted to a certain degree. (Or maybe I'm simply too bad at Japanese )

Maybe you can try to point out where the original source is if there is any? Or better, upload the line in question in mp3 or whatever sound format?

Anyway this is the hiragana text if it is of any use to you. There is no way to pronounce something like "gurnu" in modern Japanese so I rendered it as "gurunu".

Actually, that doesn't even sound like standard, modern Japanese. I can discern "氷　溶け去り/koori tokesari" (koori = ice, tokeru + saru = to melt away), but that's just a guess.

Judging from the translation, perhaps it is in a grammatical format more unfamiliar for some of us, or may have poetic/archaic renditions of words.

I suppose tokesari is 溶け去り, a part of the "ice melts" phrase given in the supposed translation. ~去る is used in modern literature from time to time. But too bad that it is only one of the few words legible to me in the whole line.

P.S.2　Okay just gave a try with liberal changes to some of the given romanji. No guarantee on translation accuracy (as you can see the bird is missing ^^;. But at least it sounds grammatically okay and aesthetically pleasing.

Uhm, it was from an article about "Spring." Well, the person who wrote it must have gotten the phrase from a Buddhist text.

After what you've wrote, I figured that the text must be kinda antique. I thought the phrase was some kind of Japanese proverb because he wrote that "....To convey the punctuality of spring, the Japanese use the phrase: Toki ni azaru to koe mo tategu kori tokesari ashi wa tsuno gurnu." Lies!!!!!! Oh well, maybe not! He didn't mention what era

Too bad, I want to add it to my collection of standard sentences >.<

Oh this is useful information . Apparently that person quoted 早春賦 (An Ode to Early Spring) by 吉丸一昌 and 中田章, with partial lines scrapped from here and there, terrible romanification of the characters and less than satisfactory translation. Deliberately done to trap anyone wanting to find the source? .
