[Spoilers] Gaara's Childhood

I was watching Naruto 58 today and I saw some flash back of Gaaras childhood. All I know about it is that Gaara

killed his mother in able to live. His dad taught him jitsu at a very young age......

and uh.....tell me the other stuff! I couldnt sleep thinking of this all night!

During Gaara's birth or right before, the soul of a sand priest (that was in a teakettle) was bound to Gaara's soul. I'm assuming this jutsu was performed by Gaara's father. His mother died during birth I believe. The sand priest and such is called Shukaku. This is what gives Gaara the automatic shield of sand. Gaara is the Kazekage's (Wind country equivalent of Hokage) son. Kankuro and Temari are also Kazekage's children, I believe. Anyway, Gaara was emotionally disturbed during his childhood, for several reasons. Kazekage tried to assasinate him numerous times.

Also Gaara's Aunt took care of Gaara, but one day she tried to kill him because she was asked by the Kazekage. Before that Gaara and his Aunt had a discussion about how she loved him and Gaara feeling pain emotionally. Then after Gaara stopped his aunt and asked why she tried to kill him, she said cause she still hated Gaara for taking her sisters life when Gaara was born. Then told Gaara what his name meant, which was always to love himself or something to that extent... Gaara was crushed and turned more evil from that...

Well, IIRC, Gaara was raised by his uncle. (His uncle is the person that Gaara kept seeing in his flashbacks who looks likes a girl.) Gaara is feared by the other children who constantly run away from him. Gaara hurts a kid one day, then tries to bring him ointment. The kid tells him to fuck off. Confused, Gaara walks off and some guy calls him a monster, the sand kills him. Later, Gaara is attacked by a person who Gaara is easily able to defeat with the sand. That person is Gaara's uncle. His uncle tells him that he has always hated Gaara, and that Gaara's mother didn't want to be sacrificed. His uncle never forgave him for it. Gaara ends up killing the one person he thought loved him, while that person tells Gaara how much he actually hated him. Cue current events.

I thought that was his aunt. Looks like a girl to me.....but not sure now (rushing to find the chapter to confirm)

You could always read the manga if you want the beans of situation.

Basically Garaa grew up in emotionally harsh environment(Understatement of the week!) found some temporary relief(Aunt tries to love him.) and then even that was torn from him. Leaving him even more damaged/twisted.

Thus leading to our HIGHLY deranged and insane Garaa we know today.


1 question for you all. Does Garaa even sound like he's 12?

Ok, I'm going back through my manga collection. And I believe I have found the in question relatives name: Yashamaru. Guy or girl name, anyone?

Also, in the unlikely event this character is somehow male I would say he would have to be somehow related to Haku as well.

Because looking at the manga, really hard to get a masculin vibe here.

which begs the question, where did narutoguide get that info from? there's nothing in the manga about yashamaru being a guy (unless the name is a guy name of course)

i know for a fact that narutoguide throws incorrect info on occasion....so i wouldnt value it too highly. I have looked through the manga before, as this has been mentioned a while back, and i am yet to find anything that specifically says whether she's gaara's aunt or uncle (only references at all to their relation is her saying that gaara's mom is her sister).....but if all this commotion is because of narutoguide.....then im going back to my original assumption of her being female

oh....and if you really wanna know.....then you should ask someone who translated the manga, because im pretty sure they can tell just by the WAY she says things....(I think even something like the word "I" can have a masculine or feminine form in japan)

Im pretty sure that Yashamaru is a girl... There are no other characters that look like a girl but is a guy except Haku and the reason for this is to represents Haku's purity...

umm she's his uncle. i check out the chinese manga. the i or you in chinese indicated that she is a he, and is gaara's mom's twin brother actually. they looked almost the same... expect that garra's mom had a more girlish look which is of course, natural.

Right.
Surprisingly enough, Yashamaru is Gaara's uncle. Just note the "-maru" in his name, that's only used for male characters.
Don't doubt that, go to the Naruto Guide, read the manga, it clearly states that Yashamaru is Gaara's uncle and not his aunt.

Yashamaru is a boy's name (like all the name with the suffix maru)
