IT'S HERE!!!! i actually liked how they cut down a later chapter to make a character intro for her. it does a great job world building and character building just enough to keep viewers hooked in for next episode.
and my god, that animation. i can't wait for some of the major set pieces the story has. they'll definitely be wallpaper worthy.

Oh, I absolutely love this first episode. It was beautifully animated, and the story was engrossing. I thought I might be bored with no action, but the characters just continually pull me in. I didn't even know it was KyoAni until I checked out this thread just now, and it isn't a normal KyoAni style neither.
It's definitely out to a good start, so hopefully it will be able to continue this. And for goodness sakes, please no hints from novel readers.

Great start. Beautiful animation coupled with characters that seem like they should be pretty interesting. Hopefully it can keep up the character beats and emotion.
One of my favorite premieres of the season.

What's the likelihood that there'll be much detail about the inner workings of the Dolls?
I found it curious that Violet bleeds like anyone else, so I'm wondering if she is at least partially organic. The replacement of her arms with metal prosthetics also seemed to suggest that her original ones were not easy to replicate? |

if they actually do justice to each stand alone story, 13 will be enough for the first volume and her background. @Jwai, she's human. she isn't an auto memories doll, despite that being prominent in the description for the series. there are dolls (robots) that write letters, but she isn't one. it's just that something happened to cause her to lose her arms. and from her saying all she's known is to fight for the major, we can also assume she isn't properly socialized.

This is very interesting. I'm not entirely pleased with the Colonel constantly trying to conceal the truth about Major Gilbert from Violet, but I get the impression that she would commit suicide if she believed he was dead.
She isn't a doll, she just acts like one.

wow, it's really kyoani "being kyoani and delivering another top note quality anime(ok sometimes they do some mistakes but overal they aways bring most of the times good to top shows).
Well really no words on that first episode, visual top, a good introduction, with a lot of ????, a really, really loveable;likeable character which remember another character from another serie(hello "sento"!!!). my only question could be if violet is a "human" how the hell she survived after loosing "both arms", from a great blood loss this could do???, how she can be really a human, when she act soo much "robotic"???, if during the battle she take a lot of damage and serious wounders and even loose both arms she was supposed to be dead, specially from blood loss after loosing the arms, that part really do look crazy and don't make much sense (so far with the little hints we have). It's really great and probably for me gonna be the "anime of the year", if keep that quality and they proper give all the needed info about her.

It is pretty much a setup episode. We see the world after the end of a great war and how the people come into terms with this part of history. We have Gilbert who gave the gift of freedom, Hodgins who moved from military service to public service, and Violet who suddenly found herself without a raison d'etre. And it all begins with Hodgins' ghostwriting and mail company.
Was Violet just a tool all along? And why does Violet display behavior that is inconsistent to how a normal human would act? Who exactly is Violet? Those questions will, hopefully, be answered throughout the series. For now, we welcome this lady with open arms.
