Chieri went through her character development moment, but the highlight of the episode was on Kanata.

It seems the Kirara can tell which girl has more "soul" of the original member. And it seems that now that Kanata's character has developed, she's showing even more Takamina "soul" than the current Takamina.

Now poor Takamina herself is the one who's angsting. And to make matter worse, as things stand now, Kanata can not succeed unless Takamina graduates.

What will happen next?

Yeah, but it's mostly because Kanata didn't react badly that kirara decided she's more Takamina than Takamina herself right now. And since poor Takamina's feeling like shit about it, you'll get your drama soon enough.

Very good ep, and with a interesting cliffhanger. I wish the show had next ep preview together with each episodes now.

Sonata was especially cute around the start of the episode. Lol to how much Nagisa is a fan of Yuuko. I wonder why they didn't even show us the 76th generation before XD. I liked the development of Chieri's character and Kanata's together with her.

So since one year ago Kanata became the more fitting to hold up the name Takamina than the current one herself and that was the reason she didn't graduate all this time. I wonder how this issue will solve itself up. Some possibilities that comes to mind right now:

*Takamina graduates to let Kanata take her place. Doesn't seems like the other current members would be happy about it but with the decision comes from Takamina herself she could convince them. One variation to this may be that Takamina ends up as a successor of someone else instead of quitting the team. Not sure if that is possible though.

*Kanata learn about it and decide to wait until Takamina naturally graduates becoming more of a research students leader an supporter while she waits. That would still b e quite sad for Kanata.

*A situation that would likely be better to everyone, but that I'm not sure if it's possible, is for current Takamina to look and find what is she lacking that let someone become more of a Takamina than her, and get her place back as the more suited. This maybe could free Kanata from becoming next Takamina, allowing her to succeed someone else. The problem is whether that last part really would work that way or not.

If Takamina graduates to let Kanata succeed, that would be the same as giving up. It would prove that she wasn't suited to be Takamina to begin with.

The original Takamina would never give up. Heck, Takamina is someone who's determined to spend her whole life proving that hard work will be rewarded. There's no one in AKB as determined as her, and any worthy successor should be the same.

Takamina shouldn't graduate. She should do as Tsubasa said: have confidence in herself and keep doing her best. I'm pretty sure if she does so, kirara will eventually recognize her as the Takamina successor once again.

Don't give up Takamina, don't graduate. Just keep it up!!!

Agree with Kazu's comment. If Takamina really give up, she'll never become the real Takahashi Minami for sure because her character never give up. I'm pretty sure Takamina will know that too because she's her successor.

I wonder how the situation will be handled....I'm going with the idea of Takamina keeping her position but then what will happen to Kanata? I keep thinking this situation will end up with all the trainee just make their own team and perform alongside the older girls

That's why I would prefer something more like the third option I mentioned. One way I think it could work is if Kanata as she is right now could actually be suited enough to succeed 2 names. But she would be stuck at the Takamina name because that is the one she is more suited to, more than anyone else right now. But because that name isn't free she can't actually succeed. So if Takamina takes her place back as more fitting Takamina, then Kanata maybe able to succeed that other name as it would be the only name she is fit to be more than anyone else. Is there any other name that may be free who also is related with leadership in real AKB? Maybe Mariko-sama if Tsukasa is an example.

Something else I'm wondering about is if there any particular reason on Takamina side for her to become less suited than Kanata since one year ago. Maybe it's related with A-chan's disappearance? If she was to disappear during a concert Takamina also was in, "right under her nose", and if she was dear to her, then maybe that could have made Takamina start doubting her leadership skills.

Even though, the real Takahashi Minami still would keep going forward. Graduation, even if it's for Kanata's sake, would be running away. The original Takamina would never do that, so if our Takamina still hopes to be worthy of that name, she has no choice but to keep going.

That's an interesting theory. We know that Kanata has been an understudy for more than two years, and she only became a worthy successor of Takamina in the last year. That means that something did change in the last year. Either Kanata changed for the better and became closer to the original Takamina, or our Takamina changed negatively and became less worthy. If it's the latter, Takamina might be able to regain Kirara's recognition if she finds out whatever is wrong with her at the moment and fix it.

The real Takamina and Acchan are very close friend. IDK how their relationship would be in this universe but I agree that if you're the leader of the group and a member just went MIA in front of you, it would make Takamina doubt her leadership qualities.

But I think it's more like Kanata grew at a much faster pace than Takamina and managed to catch up to her, even surpassed her. The trainees did say Kanata's skill is as good as the senbatsu member and after she got over her emotional issues, it really helped her growth tremendously and her potentials grew. Takamina still seem like a good leader the way she tried to help out Orine in the bathroom tho (which is a reminiscence of the real life situation of Takahashi Minami helping out Sato Amina, Yuka's seiyuu in this anime, when she was crying in the bathroom according to an interview) Kanata is just more ahead right now.

We'll know more next ep since it'll deal with this issue.
Anyway considering the pace of the anime, I'm pretty sure another season would be in the work since trying to fit all 9 successions storyline, and dealing with DES definitely need more than 6 more ep unless they're going to seriously rush it.

This part isn't really an ep 7 spoiler so answering outside a spoiler tag:

I agree the rumor of a second season may be true as it would be needed for the story considering it's current pace. I hope we at least get all the 9 girls to become successors by the end of this season, and have they, hopefully, dealing once and for all with des with the second season.

Whenever a character tries to uncover the (possibly dark) secrets of Sensei-Sensei and all of that underground stuff, I always worry that those characters might "disappear" after learning too much
Though the creepy encounter with the floating jellyfishes only led to Takamina(e?) running away. They always run away when something troublesome happens. Someone needs to gather every moment a character ran away and make a MAD out of it...

Don't BD sales have to be high for them to consider another season also?
What's high in anime CD sales anyway since I don't really follow that stat?

Yes, but lately with a few shows they actually already plan to have 24-26 episodes, but instead of having them in one season unstop, they air half first, then the second half one season after the first one ended at. Which means the second season would already be set / planned for. A few cases where that happened lately is with Fate/Zero, Rinne no Lagrange, Jormungand. Earlier in this thread someone said one person related with making this anime mentioned in his/her twitter that AKB was the same case as those.

Depends on how expensive it is to make, but selling around 3000-5000 disks should be enough to cover an anime cost. Around the 10K is already quite good sales, but a few very popular titles may get around 30K or even more.

I'd be wary of assuming that the popularity of AKB48 will spill over into anime sales, though. Remember this show isn't even carried on a major Tokyo television station, so large numbers of people cannot see it. There's also this discussion from a few pages back that said there was little or no advertising or promotion for this show in Akihabara.
