Yeah, that was really good .

A nice benefit to being a full series is that they could just spend this whole episode on Atsuko getting to the school and meeting Sucy and Lotte.

Trigger doing of course a nice job on the visuals and just made a first episode that was fun to watch. Get to see how darn crazy some magical creatures out there are and the trouble these girls will likely get into along the way . No surprise there is a divide between those of magical heritage and those without any. Atsuko will likely run into that head on in the next episode.

Geez, Suzy, that's taking unfriendliness to a whole new level Then again, it is Suzy, so of course, she's gonna have a few screws loose. And now have two cours (altough split) of her. This is gonna be fun Meanwhile, Akko is as much of an expressive troublemaker as always, and that's how it should be.

Say, why was the Shiny Rod there? Maybe it simply materializes itself to whoever has to heart for it, since it literally sprouted off the ground. Other than that, pretty fun episode and a good introduction to the main three.

Kind of leads to the question of "what exactly is the Shiny Rod in the first place?" A magic staff, obviously, but one that seems to follow a different set of rules than other magical things in that world. Did it actually "belong" to Shiny Chariot, or did it just appear for her like it did for Akko? What does it all mean?

I'm gonna go with "it belongs to whoever has the proper heart for it". Which would imply Chariot doesn't anymore.

I think this was originally some other type of media before? And this is the TV version? I'm not too sure since I never saw it, but as far as the TV goes alone, it's almost pure enough to be a morning TV show. Just pretty good all around, with lots of movement and a solid start.

There's two OVAs, "Little Witch Academia" and "LWA: The Enchanted Parade". Both are lovely and worth seeing. The closest comparison I can think of is "Harry Potter meets Boku no Hero Academia". They're on Netflix if you're looking for a legal streaming service. I'm looking forward to see this as soon as it becomes available too.

Will definitely check out the OVAs but will it spoil the TV series? Should I wait until the series is done before watching the OVAs?

Yes, check out the OVAs and no, they won't spoil the series. If anything, I would have suggested watching the OVAs first and then you would be even happier about just how fantastic this first TV episode turned out! As Alhazred said, this is a "reboot" with a reinterpretation of the initial events of the story but, so far, no less exciting!

Episode 01

Well this was pretty darn good. I really felt sorry for Akko there. Those girls were so mean to her. Then Sucy was nekoing evil. And Akko with her sad face almost made me cry... Making a cute girl like that sad...

The part about the magic staff was pretty different here as compared to the OVA, the part where Akko finds it.

The visuals were overall quite good. The Chariot part in particular. The ending sequence was also good looking and the ED song was nice too.

Akko will have to put in way more effort than the others here given her "muggle" background. She will also be the target of everyone else's meanness since she'll be considered lower than the other thoroughbred witches. There will be quite a lot of mean arrogant girls here looking down on poor Akko. I feel sorry for her already.

Well, OVA provide major spoiler regarding Shining Chariot. I think that should be noted. Still absolutely worth watching.

What I saw in the first episode is a little changes in plot development, but it seems that we watched in OVAs and movie it will be different as we know.
I hope this series has a good villain and character development instead worthless moe scenes.

Fun first episode. I'm a little disappointed that it appears to be a different continuity from the original LWA OVA (since I enjoyed that OVA so much) but if a reboot helps the TV series find stable footing so be it.

Actually is there any info on how long the series is gonna be? Can't find any info on whether we are looking at a 13 episode season or 26.

This is the same studio that brought us Kill la Kill and the director for little witch academia was the animation director for Gurren lagann. Honestly, with the ridiculous final attack we saw in the 2nd OVA, that influence is quite apparent. Heck this series has 2 ovas and 1 episode and so far all 3 have managed to feature some form of giant killer monster.


Frankly i'm expecting a series that will be mostly filled with magic school comedy with the occasional giant monster fight. As for character development; well there was plenty of that in Trigger's previous work and Akko is already being set up for conflict with her "muggle" status; so i'm not worried there. Though there is still the question of the villain... no idea what we might get there since the OVA's never really hinted at anything and neither did the first episode. Granted that's understandable since the OVA's were written to be self contained and not tease at future plots, and the first episode is just the beginning

Ursula owns a white crow named Alcor; it informed her of the intrusion into the Forest of Arcturus. It also bears a striking resemblance to Akko's stuffed bird, which the website calls out as an "Alcor Doll," a bit of vintage Shiny Chariot merch. The site also notes that you can turn it inside out to make it a hat, which references how Shiny Chariot turned her hat into a bird.
