All anime that's not aimed at really young kids, and is on major networks seems to air after 12. And yeah I think that song was for the CD release or something. Spoiler for episode spoiler:

All "otaku" anime gets aired after midnight. Anime companies *pay* japanese television stations to air their products -- that's why you'll see comments about anime basically being a long informercial (because it is). The money is made selling merchandise (source material manga/game/novels, figures, CDs, and whatnot).
Most of the anime we enjoy is considered an odd niche by the general public in Japan (or bizarre) - rather like an extreme sort of gaming/comic/eccentric hobby (or even deviant activity by some). Its slowly gaining acceptance over time though (much like Star Trek, D&D, and MMOs are seeping into mainstream acceptance). A franchise is often only "accepted" in Japan if it gets a live-action treatment. Given some of the other live-action treatments (Honey&Clover, Love*Complex, Kimi no Todoke, etc)... I'm kind of wondering if K-ON!! will get a live-action adaptation given its cross-over appeal in Japan.

I also particularly appreciate their support for the pairing, even if it's more for the tsukomi effect than anything else in the end .
Great episode but poor Mio. Next week : RomeJuli? Hell yes! (b'-')b Can't wait to see the two playing!

Earlier I had double checked to see what chapters got adapted. Found they skipped a chapter from volume 3 and as of episode 17, we're in volume 4. And that very chapter gets included in this episode. In any case, the episode was pretty nice and I'm definitely looking forward to the next one. Hopefully it plays out the way I hope and we'll get a decent amount of play scenes.

Don't forget the loose shirt and rubban! The camera movement from down (waist I think) to her head was magic …(*´-д-)フゥ-3.
I don't know what to expect from next episode. I'm a bit scared they focus mainly on Azusa dealing with her anguish of the other members forgetting about the band performance rather than giving more time to the play. But I'll keep my fingers crossed .
