Some stuff with the village men flirting with Quinn occurs etc etc.

Real trouble starts when after 4 days no Yazata had arrived or responded to Quinn's message. They try to leave the village to find they are stuck in a spatial distortion. No matter how far they travel, they always return to the same place. The distortion eventually tightens down to confining them in the village chief's house. Not a single villager in sight, place quite as a grave.

They try to bust down the walls and even the windows to escape but they cannot leave the building. Quinn is getting really anxious now since the possibility is high that the attacker is rampaging amnogst the villagers while trapping her and Sam in the house.

The warp tightens even further, confing them to a single room within the building.

They hear a knock on the door. It's Layley. Samrukh warns her not to enter or move. Layley had brought breakfast and it seemed like she wasn't caught in the spatial distortion. They question her about the other villagers and everything seems well with them. Quinn says they may be ale to escape if Layley is with them, despite there being a risk she may become trapped also instead.

Quinn offahndedly remarks that she and Samrukh needed to leave soon to which Layley reacts badly since she had grown attached to them after they essentially saved the town from the rampaging Daeva earlier. Layley commands her to stay and protect their village.

Quinn was able to disregard it since her Vow favors the commands of her superiors so refusing the commands of those below them would not trigger any divine retribution. This was why she could ignore Magsarion earlier. Quinn says it isn't because she sees the village as of little importance but that the enemy they are facing now is too evil to be ignored.

For Quinn right now, the highest priority imperative is to fulfil Khvarenah's order to gather miracles. Following that is her duty to Suirios (the head of the Wahman Yasht) to apprehend Magsarion. While Layley's desire is earnest, it just could not compare with the will of a demon lord and the head of the Wahman.

Layley despairs saying why despite praying to God every day they are still being abandoned. This is the first time Quinn has heard of the concept of "God."

At this moment, the tip of a blade bursts from Layley's chest. She has no idea what is happening before she dies.

The door opens and there is Magsarion. The girls are enraged but Magsarion simply turns to leave, leaving them with Layley's corpse.

They try to destroy the room in an attempt to break out. As Quinn comes into contact with Layley's blood, she is filled with Layley's last remaining thoughts and at the same time, the barrier broke, freeing them.

Before leaving Quinn closes Layley's eyes and apologizes saying her death was Quinn's fault. In those last moments she had noticed something about the ever regenerating Daeva that had mysteriously appeared from nowhere. Magsarion had said he was going to cut out the root. if Quinn had realized then, this could have been averted.

"There's no God Layley. There's only Avesta (真我). This instinct that we have been granted to end this war," Quinn says as she leaves. That's why they needed a miracle. Layley hadn't been wrong. if there was no God then they had to create one.

Turns out the "God" Layley was worshipping was an artifact made by Khvarenah. It was the source of all the Daeva. Magsarion took the easiest path if simply slaughtering the entire village to deprive the artifact of its power source instead of taking it head on to spare the village. He justifies himself saying that the villagers would have fallen to Evil and so had to be purged also.

Samrukh now has major grudge against him as a result.

The chapter ends with Magsarion returning to the Wahman Yasht as he had run out of Vohu Manah's feathers.

Well the prologue made clear enough that Quinn and Samrukh are outliers, sanity-wise.

I can't say that those villagers were bad but they were unlucky for praying to that core and being the origin of the problem, I can neither blame Magsarion for his actions.

Well it's the equivalent of razing a city to the ground to take out a single person.... Besides for all we know Magsarion's personality may consist of nothing more than his Avesta as Quinn suggests. Which would mean he's driven by bloodlust and nothing else. So as it stands right now, he's really no better than that core


EDIT: And if there's any doubt, Magsarion makes his contempt for the villagers clear at the end. So it's not like he cares about retrieving the core without any casualties. He gives the reasoning that they would eventually end up hating everything and fall from Good to Evil but he himself is the same so yeah....load if hot air he is.

Looks like the core that Layley was praying to. It's one of Khvarenah's artifacts that spawn Daeva and other effects. It was responding to Layley's prayers but because the villagers don't have strong Avesta they did not notice it was an artifact from the Evil side.

Ah i see, so the spacial distortion stems from Layley's wish that the heroes stayed. What in the world did they wish for that gave birth to a tentacle monster? That heroes would come to their village?

General wishing for protection etc.....it's just that the artifact, being a corrupt thing spat out from Khvarenah, uses their prayers as a fuel source to make Daeva

And the primary reason why anyone cares about him is that he cut off Hajun's finger lmao. Seriously, I hope there's more to him than just that and having hatred issues...At least Kemono-dono and Amakazu do it right. But at least this allows the protag POV to be Quinn

Quinn's Vow is 輝ける従順 AKA アクワルタ　．スラオシャ however that is romanized. No new details on that one besides that.


Samrukh's Vow is 霊鳥への階梯 AKA シームルグ　．アッタール basically in exchange for never healing her wounds, her offensive ability is increased each time she is wounded. Manifests as red energy (fighting spirit) that takes the forms of faux organs or body parts, when activated it strengthens and mends the damaged portions of her body. It also allows Samrukh to survive in her wounded state without any ill effects even if her organs are not whole or missing etc. However as her wounds are strictly speaking, unhealed, she still bears their pain even if externally they look as if they are healed. Fatal wounds like decapitation, destruction of the head or heart etc will still kill her outright. Her firepower output from this Vow works like this:

100 = all of Samrukh's wounds suffered to date = highest instantaneous power output

A = wounds suffered at that specific moment

100 x A = Usable power output

A apparently scales with the total amount of wounds so if a minor wound relative to all wounds she has suffered so far occurs, A will be < 1 and thus she cannot go all out in combat. Likewise, if she doesn't suffer any new wounds she cannot even activate her Vow at all. This is essentially a high risk, high return ability.



Layley is six years old. Her mother was killed by a beast-type drəgvant and she ended up finding and praying to Khvarenah's artifact for salvation as a result. If she had survived to maturity she might have become a Yazata. Quinn and Samrukh will never forget her.



The artifact is similar in concept to Quinn. Can be said to be her sibling as a result. It is a projection type artifact that gathers prayers and converts them into power. It gathers tha deepest wishes of its owner but gives birth only to Daeva. For one happiness, a hundred tragedies occur as a result. It is obviously from the drəgvant faction but those with shallow Avesta cannot sense this and are tricked.



Tentsui is the changing of one's alignment from drəgvant to ashavan and vice versa. It rarely occurs and in the history of the Wahman Yasht, has only be confirmed to occur to a handful of people. In those instances, no specific condition for it can be identified but strong anger and despair appear to be linked to it. The strength of the fallen individual is also swapped. Strong people who fall deteriorate sharply while weak people who fall become extremely powerful. Due to the small sample size, no certainty in this phenomenon can be had.




Masada also likens Magsarion's "stop at nothing depravity" to their own attitude to reviving Shinza after Light's fall and draws comparison with Quinn's looking for a miracle to fix everything.






Most importantly.....that pic of Layley is just plain cruel. Masada back to his loli bullying I see.
