It's the first week of group stages with Bo1s and plenty of time to prepare. Wait until things get to Bo5 and having to prepare between games. Then the contenders will emerge.
Either way, an interesting day. Clearly even the Koreans can allow themselves to be victims of pride. Because for both of them to miss an obvious ban the day it was re-enabled is rather confusing otherwise.

Also Luna totally seems to have the potential to be the new M5/Gambit for Russia, they've performed way better than past wildcard teams. Too bad that Russia can't get Visas to play in the EULSC the region would probably be stronger with their presence. And I still can't believe that no one is undefeated after first half of groups.

It will be a test for Korean teams to adapt to Aurelion Sol. It reminds me of TI3 in Dota 2 three years ago, when the Chinese teams were caught off-guard after Western teams successfully used Gyrocopter and Wisp against them - two heroes that the Chinese teams widely regarded as useless heroes.
I think it's more likely that the Koreans will do what everyone else will, which is to simply ban Aurelion, but I'd be more impressed if they, with their full teams of analysts behind them, can come up with a strategy to counter Aurelion.

You've assumed that Koreans have never played against AS in the LCK. Fly on KT Rolster was quite good on the champion. It isn't really the AS pick that is the bigger issue. It is more the point that teams are being very proactive and going 3v1 mid at regular intervals or going for early surprise gank spots. AS gave CLG a win balance out the fact they lost to the wildcard Albus Nox. And it gave Flash Wolves their first win. Ban/pick strategies and awareness of other lane movements will be upped.

Yeah it isn't so much Sol but other problems SKT/ROX have being exacerbated by the pick.
SKT: Blank is the weak link. When they aren't ahead he either lacks presence (his Olaf did nothing) or being in dumb places and being punished for it (his Nidalee game didn't look good until everyone else just smashed their lanes). I reckon they'll sub Bengi back in and crush week 2, their lanes are monstrous they just need their jungler to actually give them backup. Case in point, Faker is obviously awesome, but his playstyle is vulnerable to being camped so he needs at least some assistance vision-wise to avoid having his aggressive tendencies exploited. ROX: Their macro and teamplay is awesome. Their first 10 mins is utter shit though so far, they've been thrashed early in all 3 games. They have to actually clean up their early game or pick more dominant lanes, there's way too many strong laning teams (SKT/TSM/RNG/EDG at minimum) that are potential opponents outside of groups that they just can't get that far behind against if they want to advance further. |

So, can we get an anime now, preferably with magical girls?
There's also another version by Riot Japan that has a different song, which imho sounds much better:

Group A wasn't too surprising, Aphro was too engrossed in trying to use Bard's R to evade the Jhin roots. The game really showcased how strong Jhin is at picking up people from far away - Alistar took care of the rest.

Well, one can't say these Worlds are really throwing some spanners in the works. As if Group A didn't really light up the works with its day, Group C lit an utter bomb.
What will Group D offer with its day when three teams are tied at the top? But despite all this, I'm keeping thoughts in check. Bo5s are a very different scenario to Bo1s. And we all know what happened at MSI this year when SKT looked like they were in real trouble then went boss mode in the playoffs. That said, if there is one thing coming out of this, it is that the other regions are finally giving some reason to believe that Korea won't be eternal world champions.
