A-1 have been working on CGI techniques for this show, from Anime-Expo last year....

Rivera: What's the strongest combination?

Ueda: We formed the strongest party around with Aniplex and A-1 Pictures.

Rivera: What's the next stage?

Ueda: The next stage of our development is to make something that would supersede Gundam. I think we need digital technology to achieve that. At A-1 we've experimented with a couple of 3D animation technologies. Let's take a look at a couple of those.

Rivera: These are original clips.

[Clips of 3D objects and action scenes are shown]

Ueda: Thank you. 3D needs to be prominent but the most important thing is a good story and plot. I hope we'll be able to show our new original robot animation as soon as possible. Please look forward to it.
And to be fair anyone who isn't Bones and old gainax have no choice but to go for 3d animation when it comes to mecha with 2d mecha animators being an a dying breed.

Massive cruelty pretty much guaranteed.
I wouldn't be surprised if this is a very dark and gloomy "End of the world/Last resort" type mecha scenario... I would rather be surprised if it is not.
I just had a horrible thought: imagine Urobuch and Tomino in a contest to come up with the grimmest mecha series imaginable.

Yeah, I thought so too. I was hoping his fully-written mecha series would be a Gundam show that fits him, just like how he’s now doing his own Kamen Rider show, Gaim. Alas that's not the case. But the good thing is (I think), a non-Gundam show will be less strict in putting merchandising & gimmicks above the story (like what Kamen Rider shows suffering nowadays). I think that will give Urobuchi more freedom to do what he wants, which is good.

I'm always down for more mecha, especially when it's done by that kind of staff. I'm excited.

That would create a gorefest which would make stuff like Hellraiser look like a children's birthday party by comparison.

I like Gargantia too, and consider that it is one of the better shows out there. Nevertheless, it is no where near the level of Fate Zero or Madoka.

I have to ask but I'm assuming Urobuchi is familiar with Emmanuel Kant or Ferdinand I because the tagline for this series is a modification of an ancient maxim that Kant made famous.

Let justice reign, though the heavens may fall.
