I guess it was about what I expected. So, not much. Was the comedy of Maeda's works always this unfunny? I seem to recall having a better time with Angel Beats. And since the episode was 99% comedy, well...

Ayane Sakura's performance was fantastic though. The anime also looks very pretty as expected from the studio.

It was a pretty entertaining episode imo. Personally, I find Hina both fun and slightly annoying to watch. On the other hand, Youta looks like a fool from the first episode LOL

I very much appreciated the premiere, albeit a bit flawed. As usual, P.A. Works make fantastic visuals and the animation quality was overall decent and it's not hard to see it'll be consistent throughout the run. As for the story, well it didn't really start yet but the two main characters (Yota and Odin) already established their initial characterization and the dynamic that will form between them. Yota Narukami's life is full of unluckiness and it's kinda sad he's trying hard to do things to impress both himself and the girl he has a crush on (Izanami), and I can relate to him a bit because his backstory seems to be a bit depressing. Odin's a very cute and snarky loli genderbended after an eponymous god, even if she keeps much of her personal life as secret, but as expected she does what a typical monotheistic divine being do: overseeing the world and watching over everything as if she's a personified CCTV. However, she's quite genki and I respect her for that even though she's a bit pretentious and annoying. The best part of the episode is to see how will Yota truly believe in what Odin said and how the unfolding events that will ensue will probably hit him hard, for better or worse. Sadly, I don't think the show will have a happy ending, and it'll receive a bittersweet or tearjerking conclusion given how the direction is going.

I'm pretty mixed on Jun Maeda but the first episode seemed promising enough. I'll probably keep up with it until it goes completely off the rails.

Yeah, I'll keep on enjoying the silliness until it goes utterly nuts and loses me about half way through . Third time through with these shows it is at least foreseeable how that will play out.

Also very handy how this omniscient god can't really identify the cause of the end of the world beyond something incredibly vague. Plus...what is she even doing here? To comment on how everything people are doing is pointless? Is there anything of identifiable note you could do with an impending apocalypse? If you could stop it that'd be nice, but I'm not seeing that as too likely. I suppose it would be very much like a god to go and see humanity just to enjoy the laughs until they all got wiped out by some disaster...

At the very least it is a good looking show. They've got that going for them. None of the characters are all that interesting as of yet. I suppose they'll either really do a nice job with the characters or make it a setting where you wouldn't mind seeing the world end .

I remember reading a very short one shot manga, featuring a boy who thought the world would end on a specific date in the near future and a girl who believed him. They had to part ways but when that day approached, the girl sat watching the sunset believing the world would end. Except that end never came and some days later she found out that the boy died that day instead. I wish I could remember the name of that one shot because it was quite touching. In any case, I wouldn't be surprised if it were the same gig here.

What's with Odin appearing twice(?) this season?

My main problem with Maeda anime is that they always don't know how to end the story. The male protagonist in Angel Beats flipped halfway through, then we got that ending in Charlotte. The visuals are stunning enough for me to keep watching though.

It's not just you. The first episode is packed with all those "comedic" moments but they didn't work for me at all.

The Armageddon and Rocky references were fun enough, though the Edward Scissorhands but with a beak was even better.

Given the stuff with the parents I'd not be surprised if, as Haak mentions, the 'end of the world' in question will be on a personal scale.
