I wonder if they are going to air all 175 episodes before re-airing the show. Even if they skip the Key of the Starry Sky arc, then it'll be around 150 episodes, being nearly 3 years.

Fairy Tail Best is only supposed to be certain episodes, so I'm hoping that it won't take 3 years for it. At most, I'm guessing a year break. However, Naruto did go for 2 years of fillers, so it is possible that it could be that long as well.

True, but those were filler and not reruns right?

It says 175 Final but at the end of the episode it says: To be continued - thats not fair!!

The main guess is that it will continue in animated series form; that it is just taking a break to give Mashima time to write more material, and at least finish out the current arc. Anime series always catch up to the manga, and leave them with only a couple of options:

1. Take a break to give the manga writer more time to write stuff
2. Add in filler episodes or arcs

It's personal taste, as to what you prefer. I think I lean more towards a break, as filler generally is of lesser quality compared to regular arcs. That said, FT filler has been fairly decent, mostly (a couple of stinker moments here and there, though).

Another option is OVA's or movies to handle things, but given what I know of the manga portion past this, I am not sure it makes for good movie material.

Either way, if they would have done their fillers from the get-go, not just one episode pads between each arc with the different characters, I don't think that we'd be in this position, but that's just me. It must be easier to criticize as we look back and see the missed opportunities.

Yeah, once the series comes back in some form we'll be right back into Current. Nothing wrong with falling into the older series category while nothing is going on.

You are probably right if they had done filler from the start it could have gone on longer. But if they had maybe the quality would have dropped and it either wouldn't have been as great overall or it might have gotten ended for good somewhere. Wasn't the original plan for the series to stop/break at the end of the Battle of Fairy Tail arc? If they expected to stop there then there wasn't much point in filler up to that point. After we did start getting a bit of filler, but in the end happy we had as little filler as there was. Just focusing on making the series as great as possible without padding things as much as they could have.

I'd rather take breaks and keep the series strong than have to sift through weak filler episodes if I ever wanted to rewatch it.

Honestly, it would have depended on what the content of the fillers were.

For me, I would have done a few episodes after each major arc to flesh out some of the 2nd and 3rd string characters. Elfman going on a job, or seeing how Team ShadowGear did things before the timeskip. It would have added only 2-3 episodes at the beginning but it probably would have been a welcome addition to see those characters off on their own, doing things.

I am going to miss FT quite alot as it was really good, although not excellent.
The story was kinda shallow, the female characters were all way too amazing, too beautiful and my favourite character Lisanna just got put to the side too much.
How great can a person be? Hard to find anyone more amzing than her even if like I said FT is filled with amazing women.
It might be back, who knows.
It just dislike stories that ends in anime form long before the manga, as
1. I want to see the conclusion in anime
2. I am not that big on manga and only read it if I can't see the story out any other way.
