Is there a way to read the manga for Higurashi online - and legally?

Did the manga get published in North America and did all the volumes release? Is the manga 'small', does it have only a relatively small amount of volumes, or is it like two dozen or something?

All 27 volumes or so of the main series have been released here in North America.

They smushed 2 volumes into 1 for the later half of the series (Which I disapprove of) but there isn't a way to read those versions online (Nobody scans printed releases in general), only the scanlations.

Sooo there was a livestream for Higurashi Sui and I managed to catch some of it (after refreshing everytime premium warnings came up @3@). The two people relaying the news was cosplaying as Satoko & Hanyuu. They even got the producer of Higurashi Sui to cosplay as Ooishi. The only new things we got were some more gameplay on Onikakushi-hen and a DS-arc with Natsumi & Minai Tomoe.

Spoiler for Livestream Images:

They basically just replayed the PV, OP, talked about the characters, and mini-quizzes.

The producer makes a good Oishi, he's at least better than both live action actors performance. And lol at the cosplay.

Did they mention this in advance or anything like that?

I prefer the Ooishi from the first one. He was cool compared to the second one which I wouldn't be surprised is a pedophile. The scenes he was in were always awkward and creepy.

She kinda does, but alot of Japanese girls do look alike. Anyway, these are the two people mentioned in the twitter posts. So the two girls are probably these two here.

Here's also where the tweets originated from.

And what the Satoko actor looks like, see what I mean.
Spoiler for Satoko LA:

I got a good chuckle out of that one. But yeah, the first one was much better. While the second on the other hand, was too thin and old. He also started his movie career off in porn for about ten years straight, then moved onto stage and real films. So I wouldn't be surprised if he was a pedophile.

Why does your the change of being a pedophile increase when you work in the porn industry?

Wow Satako's live action actress (Erena Ono) is actually part of AKB48. Who know haha

Ughh... with that knowledge, I dont think I can ever watch the second Higurashi movie the same way anymore. I hate it when Japan constantly change their cast in sequels.

Seems like it is going well for MangaGamer

How well did Mangagamer's Moe Day sale go? Can you say what title sold the most during the sale?

The Moe Day sale went about twice as well as we expected it to, and we sold a lot of titles. Surprisingly, the best seller was a pretty close match between the Edelweiss Bundle (http://www.mangagamer.com/detail.php...product_code=9) and the Kira Kira Bundle (http://www.mangagamer.com/detail.php...roduct_code=56).
That being said, our Holiday Sale went absolutely fantastic. Because the Holiday Sales on our website and Steam, we made more money this December than we did during our first two years of business combined. It even exceeded our income for Year 3. Our best seller during the Winter Sale was Cho Dengeki Stryker (http://www.mangagamer.com/detail.php...oduct_code=111), though Eroge! (http://www.mangagamer.com/detail.php...product_code=4) was the best seller during our XXXMas Sale.
Good to see the best sellers weren't nukige for the most parts. Hopefully this will help them focus more on story driven visual novels.

Well, at least Oishi was the only one to have a different actor. Everyone else stayed the same. And, Satoko's LA actor isn't the only one known for certain things. Take LA Rina for example, she was the main lead in the 2004 bondage film Flower and Snake for crying out loud! You know, the "watershed moment in the history of Japanese film censorship" one! Not that I've seen it, but from what I've heard its meant to be... how should I put it... extremely brutal and insane! And an actor from something like that ended up in the live action adaption of Higurashi how? Anyway, there's also Takano's LA actor, who was one of the first Japanese models to gain international recognition and success, and even worked with fashion greats such as Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent! Then there's Chie's LA who was in Anno's Love and Pop! I mean, we've actually got a few notable and famous actors in the LA Higurashi adaption! However, how the hell they got casted in it still fathoms me to this day. Especially knowing it was very low budget and directed by someone not so well known.

If you want to know more about the LA cast, I gathered a bunch of info and added it to the wiki a few months ago.

Because porn, Japan, low age of consent, and various other reasons why Japan is creepy.

You know, I never actually watched any of the Higurashi movies. I heard they weren't very good- Are they worth looking into?

I liked the second one over the first. But with any other Live action movie there were a lot of things they could have done better.

I was the one that helped translated the 2nd one.

Natsumi chapter would have been a better live action movie to make.

I'm probably not the best judge, since I only watched the first five minutes of one before thinking, "Yeeeah, I think I'll do something else with my Saturday."

They're probably alright as movies, and I want to give them another shot. I'd just make sure to manage you expectations, and definitely not expect a 100% faithful recreation of the original series' tone. I love the Atonement arc, though; I could see that being very powerful.

I liked them the first around of watching them. One thing that suffered was the acting of Rena and Keiichi's actors in the first film. Everyone else seem fine from what I can remember. The acting gets better in the second film making it my favorite of the two films even with my hate of a non-consistent cast Japan sure likes to do for whatever reason.

Ignore comments like "They dont look like them" or "They should have dyed their hair and used eye contacts!" or anything similar. Its poor judgement and ignorant. The movie would have been a lot worse and laughable with cosplay and such making it look like a poor fan-made film a high school student made. Japanese directors prefer the realistic route for majority of live action films like Death Note but nobody seem to understand that because they have their what I like to call "anime nostalgia glasses" on 24/7.

In conclusion, I would say they are worth a watch at least once. The editing may look weird at times but its worth a watch if you got nothing to do. Also, I like the little twist of adding some of the Watanagashi chapter elements in the first film. You'll understand when you see it.

I watched the first 10 minutes and then realized how terrible it was and stopped, I have no intentions of watching it fully.
