Well, that was a rather unexpected turn of events. Chifusa loses some of her size (though with the way it was getting, she needed that), and her family continues sending people out to stop her. Ouka's got a lot of skill. Her sword alone looks pretty intimidating. Then there's the matter of someone dying. It was a character we just met this episode, but still, pretty surprising. Also the revelation that there's more ways than Chifusa's to steal breasts. More dangerous ones. Lots of world building going on.

I remember someone made a similar comment during Qwaser, but it seems to apply for any of Kaneko's works. In most anime, the most sounds boobs get are a comical, rubbery "boing!". Not that that isn't used here. But Kaneko prefers something... different. Something fleshier, the sound of skin against skin. My brain's racing just thinking of it.

As long as this world is an alternate history, I wonder what shape the world would take far into the present day. Hyakkaryouran integrated ancient aesthetics with modern tech, but something tells me the Akihabara of this world's present would be similar, but different, from today's. Maybe breast prejudice has been eliminated, but as long as there are the arts...

Even when this show gives you only two things to think about, there are many ways you can think about them.

Spoiler for くノい乳 08 - Round, Fleshy and Lots of Fun to Be Near:

I think this is the first Lord we've encountered who doesn't view breasts as a tool of society. Not to say he isn't a pervert, but he's a pervert who channels his lust into truly upholding the majesty and the art of breasts. For that, Mune, short and comic relief as he is, earns my respect. His rampage at the injustice of seeing Chifusa's breast bleeding was hilarious, awesome and kind of touching at the same time.

About that.

There comes a time in every show when the hero is unable to do things on their own, and requires their sidekick to lend them a helping hand. That was Chifusa this week. Glad to see Kaede show her own ninja skills. She's not as good as her mistress yet, but she's more agile than, let's say, Sancho Panza. Even Chifusa was willing to let Mune touch her a bit for his justice. Not every politician in this world is corrupted on breasts after all.

We prefer to have actually likeable harem leads who can think. Perhaps its not about genres but about anime men in general; they have the gar down pat but is dumb in every other aspect like a reverse moeblob.

Those that break the trend are heralded as heroes no matter what genre they are found.

Except this isn't a harem. And he was a one-shot character. Kaede and Chifusa are our protagonists, and if we're going to be comparing characters, at least let characters who fill the same story niche be compared. Otherwise it's an intentionally unbalanced battle.

if not harem this show is closest thing to it and exactly because most of us don't expect such outburst of manliness from a comic-relief character makes the scene so awesome. Position in he show is irrelevant. Characters are constantly compared cross-series and genre.

The closest thing to Manyuu (of the shows I'm currently watching) is actually Dantalian which, it should be noted, is also not a harem. Both shows involve a pair of supernaturally endowed people (one of whom is subservient to the other) going from town to town solving problems involving boo_s, meeting colorful characters and solving mysteries along the way. Romance is a minor issue at best in both.

Spoiler for くノい乳 09 - Determined, Female, Caede [sic]:

I get the feeling I would have been able to appreciate this episode a bit more if the content hadn't been so carelessly spoiled beforehand. But now is now.

Kaede has, up until now, been a side character. A great foil for Chifusa, to be sure, but we haven't gotten much insight into her own thoughts. Another look back into the past for these two - they have a very strong friendship, to be certain. Maybe something beyond that. While Kaede may have gone sparkly-eyed over the artist, her true desires are still to travel on the road and someday develop herself back to normal. It can be troublesome to be appreciated for something you don't really want to have (or in this case, don't have).

Like the lord last week, I like what the artist adds to the world. Both of them are counterculture, but in different ways. Going against the grain of the world. Just because the world espouses a certain point of view doesn't mean everyone is going to follow it. The idea that the bullies were sent by the Manyuu clan sort of helps Kaede's case.

That there's a microphone in this world (mostly as a gag) was an amusing anachronism. I'm also liking Kaede's various statements she gives during the sponsor spot every week. This show may be an acquired taste, but I think it's a shining example. Not of a fanservice show, but a samurai one. Alternate history can be fun!

Spoiler for くノい乳 10 - Rapid Development:

With Chifusa and Kaede taking refuge with Chifusa being sick, this is a perfect episode for some backstory for both Ouka and Chifusa. Looks like she may have a goal for her quest, for this cour, at least. Chifusa's had a pretty rough life, but I like how she's not secluded because of it. In these past three months, she's touched as many lives as Kaede has touched hers. (To the point that Kaede is keeping a chart of Chifusa's breast-related developments. That's dedication. Sexy, sexy dedication.)

I was also surprised to see Kagefusa back. She's looking a little Accelerator-like, and her attitude has reformed. Considering we saw a flashback of her childhood, she didn't really have anywhere to go but up. I suspect she may have a role to play yet in the final battle. And the scene of the master and servant sleeping together in the hay was cute. These two make such a great pair, really. (And it's not the first time "great pair"s have been mentioned in relation to this show.)

ep.9 oh boy if ways to say on this ep well

kaede got doobi but they are so fake.
flashback to kiddie chifusa & kaede going who got bigger.
some argue on dango kaede fell rolling meet some guy.
3 goons appear get pwn'd & wood block attack by chifusa & kaede.
put on glasses it a scouter going over 9000 cause he is a painter.
painter want kaede to paint some festival & more flashback on fan blowing.
reason why paint kaede she is flat get slap.
flashback how kaede lost her doobi.
those 3 again & boom paint guy "behind" attack with mic appear out of nowhere to say flat rules.
then squash attack on those 3 & all tied beaten by chifusa.
painting is done & kaede continue to travel to chifusa.

next ep some sick time & more flashbacks.

yet one thing did painter guy voice sound familiar cause to me was that the minoru shiraishi in it the painter?

Spoiler for くノい乳　11 - Like the Universe, Infinitely Expanding:

So Chifusa's mother was named Chikumi. The naming sense in this show is impeccable. And by "impeccable", I mean definitely peccable. But I wouldn't have it any other way.

Half of the episode was Kagefusa and Ouka attending a festival and getting drunk. In a land where every festival is like Taketo's (R-15), that must be a lot of fun. But this episode isn't totally about a "lot of fun".

Mostly, it's about Chifusa's backstory. We've gotten a lot of her frontstory up to this point, but a woman must have a good back too. She got her breasts reduced to a manageable size (with apparently gives her the insight and the powers of the cosmos - wasn't expecting that in this very Edo-themed show), and found out her mother's past. Poor girl. She's had a tough life, and still maintains a strong face, trying to change the world along the way. I know I've said it before, but Chifusa's a pretty interesting central character. She's multifaceted, fighting for a good cause, and stacked.

How did that last one get in there?

Spoiler for くノい乳 12 - Two Important Things:

This show was a winner, for two big reasons. Reason the first. The reason why I got into this show to begin with.

Owls. Boobs. I am many things, and a breast man is indeed one of them. It's said that a hint of naked flesh can be more appetizing than actually seeing it, and that was proven here. The censorship didn't detract from the meat of the show at all, since breasts were always in your face, no matter where you walked. There was so little of it that watching the show with or without it isn't a significantly different experience. To some, that might be kind of an uncomfortable position, full of sweat and awkward explanations, but to others, it's paradise.

The second is that, to those who dig their heads between the show's big honking publicity materials, they find something worth pursuing. As a jidai geki show, I'd say it's above average. A world that's like Japan just enough, but also alternate enough that you want to rub it a little more, see how it develops. Even if the show had only one running concept, I was surprised at the multitude of ways it was able to be expressed. Big breasts, small breasts, swinging breasts, breasts that adhere to a fetish I'm not sure I can say here, and it's one of the best breast expansion shows to ever it the air.

Whether it's because of censorship or concept, I don't know, but this show was almost as ignored as Twin Angel. Yet, I enjoyed it for much of the same reasons. It took itself just seriously enough that it became ridiculous, and when that ridiculousness took itself more seriously, it went up to being thrilling and kind of tense, drawing the viewer in. I came for the boobs (that may have been phrased wrong), but stayed for the story.

But a lot of this wouldn't be possible without our leading ladies. Chifusa and Kaede are second only to Sakurako and Himawari as one of the best couples of the season. They complement each other perfectly, and are well rounded (mostly. Sorry Kaede.) Chifusa's a lovable awkward dork of a hero, and Kaede's pure energy and devotion, while still having her own goals, makes her a great sidekick. They're the Robin Hood and Little John (again, sorry Kaede) of racks. And that is an awesome title to have.

That I can write so much about this show every week is a testament to how good it is. I enjoyed it both for reasons I was expecting to, and reasons I wasn't expecting to. And Kaneko is a master when it comes to sound mixing. Flesh against flesh sounds dirty, but also really captivating. And as long as the sound of thwopping breasts is in his shows, my ears will be ready.

Two thumbs up!
