Damn... Something is seriously wrong when I'm actually liking the latest movie the least out of all the arcs. I guess they tried to patch it all together with the SHIKI inside Shiki and all the camaraderie with the killer instinct in the various psychopaths with superpowers, but it just didn't get through to me as the earlier 6 did.
Still pretty solid and the production value is still very good. But I guess it's good they ended it here before it got too long in the tooth. Well, until the next Type Moon project. |

That sort of hairstyle in the end suits Mikiya perfectly. Shiki should have also let her hair grow a bit longer.
It creeped me out as well. I thought the "rape" scene was entirely different, but then again, it wasn't really "rape" (Shiki looked like she was blushing in that scene). I suppose it's time I re-watch all the movies.

Rewatched all the movies then the seventh after it downloaded.
Spoiler for 7th movie:
I think this is all the disorganized thoughts my brain can spew out at the moment.. I blame having a shelf fall on me towards the last 40 min or so of the movie. That really hurt. Oh yeah, anyone got some nice screenshots? <3 |

Spoiler for Arcueid's Lovely face :P:
I'm a little disappointed with the lack of extra special features on the DVDs though. All of them seem to just have the claymation manner videos and nothing else (though I think the first DVD had the theatrical trailers for the 2nd and 3rd movies - need to recheck that). Just wished they could've made an audio commentary with Nasu Kinoko, the directors and the voice cast or at least added all the other TV and promo commercials for all 7 movies as well since there was numerous ones made for each movie. No doubt when these movies are re-released on Blu-ray, they'll probably think about adding in some extra features that the DVDs didn't have (or so I hope). |

The stuff with Lio had been building for a bit, but it was well in the background. It was clear that he and Mikiya were good friends in Movie 2, or at least it was to me. Lio was the one who was leaving school due to "finding something he wanted to do" and Lio was the guy who Mikiya met up with towards the end of the film as well. He had a few pretty prominent scenes in that one, but his look really changed over a few years.

But, I still like it. The characters are magi, and others who see the world differently than people do. Nasu manages with his philosophical sessions to bring life to unique characters like that, and that's what I like about his works. It really is love or hate? Also: Spoiler for 7th movie trivia:
Anyway it's been a good run and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Great anime adaption. Maybe there'll be some more material...if not, then the F/SN movie is up next! |

I don't think there is anything really wrong about demonizing marijuana. I happen to agree with the hardcore mindset that alcohol tobacco and all that crap is just stupid vice that kills off humans who abuse them. Maybe it's just nature's way of 'pruning' humanity so to speak. Sounds harsh to some probably, but that's how it is for me. There's nothing necessarily bad about that mindset. It's purely logical. That said, Kara no Kyokai's focus wasn't on that anyway, since it was a gateway drug to the harder stuff and ultimately Lio's strange goal of making people lose their sanity competely.
That said, wow... I was really annoyed with Mikiya, Spoiler:

The way they treat it in the movie, killing is an "addiction" for Shiki that she has to fight. In addition to the obvious moral element, there's the added bit of making sure she doesn't "fall off the wagon" and give in to her killing nature. Basically, don't use "justice" or "pragmatism" as an excuse to give into your unpleasant instincts. Which is exactly why Lio is the foil for her in this movie, since that's exactly what he does: he uses excuses to avoid taking responsibility for reveling in his instincts. The theme of the movie is that you can be more than your "origin" but it's not always going to be easy.
