Takeoff, shmakeoff. I'm waiting for the landing! Who knows, we might see real sweat drops on the folks at JPL as they attempt a soft landing with an object the size of a car.
I especially like the part at the end of the landing sequence when the retro pack disconnects from Curiosity and politely flies away rather than falling on top of the lander. The little "death ray" is a nice touch, too.

Interesting analysis of the US crackdown on peaceful OWS movement... frankly, I can't rule the disturbing implications out. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisf...ackdown-occupy

Pact with Iran? Yes, I am sure the Iranian nuclear weapon in development is very helpful to Pakistan. Reign over what? Is Pakistan aimed at regional dominance? Religion influence? Serve whom? The US? Nato? Or its own interest? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The curiosity Probe is so cool. The landing sequence beats Hollywood movies. |

(Historically, Manuel L. Quezon, one of our presidents at the beginning of the century, paraphrased it by saying "I would rather have a country run like hell by Filipinos than a country run like heaven by the Americans, because however a bad Filipino government might be, we can always change it."; Quezon meant about complete independence for Filipinos without any further US interference/meddling.) Sick and tired of being prodded, the Pakistanis would rather be doing profitable business with its neighbors, regardless of whom they're dealing with or what they're trading on, than to follow meddlesome orders from a country who's still in an economic quagmire and social turmoil... and of course, very unpopular with the Muslim world.

Pakistan and China semi-alliance has been there for decades now. As for the proposed Pakistan-Iran alliance, here is some facts from Wikipedia: Quote:

Thinking about it, and with its nuclear arsenal still in wraps and waiting, I'm sure the Pakistani leadership, even with Iran at its doorstep with a determined Ahmadinejad, would be all too happy to do what it wants to do once it rids itself of Western intervention, and already it's happening, make NATO squirm (even as they're still in the process of withdrawing) until it's too costly, embarrassing or justifiable to maintain order in Afghanistan.
Publicly they're angry over the deaths of their troops, but secretly it's really a boon, one more step towards "independence", as rage against NATO has become viral the average, infuriated Pakistani couldn't wait to take a truck and ram through the US Embassy gates.

I think they might have a similiar attitude to the monarchy as certain Americans to a certain piece of patterned cloth they're often oddly attached to.
