No surprises if they cut ties completely with the United States, and start signing a pact with China and Iran: better reign in hell than serve in heaven.

Probably not; they will more likely try to milk a bit more the US of as much money as the can.

I especially like the part at the end of the landing sequence when the retro pack disconnects from Curiosity and politely flies away rather than falling on top of the lander.

The little "death ray" is a nice touch, too.

Yeah, in today's neo-plutocratic US apparently that line of thinking is terrorism...

Interesting analysis of the US crackdown on peaceful OWS movement... frankly, I can't rule the disturbing implications out.

Right, Pakistan thinks its arch nemesis India alone is not going to satisfy military hunger and it want to take on the US, too.

Pact with Iran? Yes, I am sure the Iranian nuclear weapon in development is very helpful to Pakistan.

Reign over what? Is Pakistan aimed at regional dominance? Religion influence? Serve whom? The US? Nato? Or its own interest?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The curiosity Probe is so cool. The landing sequence beats Hollywood movies.

The phrase came from John Milton's Paradise Lost, to describe Pakistan's increased irritation with NATO fumbling that it feels being emasculated, what with the carrot-and-stick approach with funding.

(Historically, Manuel L. Quezon, one of our presidents at the beginning of the century, paraphrased it by saying "I would rather have a country run like hell by Filipinos than a country run like heaven by the Americans, because however a bad Filipino government might be, we can always change it."; Quezon meant about complete independence for Filipinos without any further US interference/meddling.)

Sick and tired of being prodded, the Pakistanis would rather be doing profitable business with its neighbors, regardless of whom they're dealing with or what they're trading on, than to follow meddlesome orders from a country who's still in an economic quagmire and social turmoil... and of course, very unpopular with the Muslim world.

Click "Like" and Go to Jail

Quote:
BANGKOK: Thailand has warned users of Facebook that they could face prosecution under harsh lese-majeste laws if they press ''share'' or ''like'' on images or articles considered unflattering to the Thai monarchy.

The prosecution of a Thai-born US citizen who has pleaded guilty to translating a banned biography of King Bhumibol Adulyadej has signalled that authorities are also targeting lese-majeste offences committed overseas.

Thailand's Information and Communications Technology Minister, Anudith Nakornthap, says that even though Facebook clicks of ''like'' or ''share'' are only done to show support for messages, they could violate laws that carry sentences of three to 15 years jail for each charge.
I won't say anything more about this and don't give me any rep for this post, either! You never know who may be watching.

Yes, but still I am allowed to twist it a bit to make my point.

That reminds me of former US support of Jihadists in Afghanistan fighting against the soviets.

Pakistan and China semi-alliance has been there for decades now. As for the proposed Pakistan-Iran alliance, here is some facts from Wikipedia:

Quote:
During the 1990s, their relations were dominated by the Taliban in Afghanistan, and Iran's material support of Shiite paramilitary organizations in Pakistan in response to Saudi financial and logistical support to an Anti-Shiite Sentiment.

From 1991 till the fall Taliban government, Pakistan and Iran supported opposite sides, through proxy measure, Afghanistan war. Pakistan supported the Pashtun Taliban while Iran supported the Tajik Northern Alliance. When the Taliban took Kabul in 1996, they executed many Iranian residents, including a diplomats. Shia-Sunni gun battles in Pakistan became even more coordinated, thereby straining relations. The Taliban succeeded and took over the city of Mazar-i-Sharif in 1998 and massacred thousands of Shias, according to Amnesty International. The situation worsened after Iranian leaders accused Afghanistan's ruling Taliban of holding hostage 11 Iranian diplomats, 35 Iranian truck drivers and an Iranian journalist. Iran responded to massed over 300,000 troops at the Afghan border and threatened to attack the Taliban government, which Iran never recognized, this strained relations with Pakistan, as the Taliban were seen as Pakistan's key allies.

Thinking about it, and with its nuclear arsenal still in wraps and waiting, I'm sure the Pakistani leadership, even with Iran at its doorstep with a determined Ahmadinejad, would be all too happy to do what it wants to do once it rids itself of Western intervention, and already it's happening, make NATO squirm (even as they're still in the process of withdrawing) until it's too costly, embarrassing or justifiable to maintain order in Afghanistan.

Publicly they're angry over the deaths of their troops, but secretly it's really a boon, one more step towards "independence", as rage against NATO has become viral the average, infuriated Pakistani couldn't wait to take a truck and ram through the US Embassy gates.

I think they might have a similiar attitude to the monarchy as certain Americans to a certain piece of patterned cloth they're often oddly attached to.

The difference is that America is a democracy, but my point was that the absurd attachment to symbolism is universal.

Well the King already welcomed criticism back in 2005, so who is actually committing lese majesty for not allowing criticism to float freely - the critics or the watchdogs?
