Mother Nature is a harsh mistress indeed...

Meanwhile, the Hachiken/Mikage relationship continues to be as natural as it can get (Are you listening Okada?). It's also a case where opposites attract. Hachiken is the kind of guy that is outspoken and speaks whatever is on his mind. While Mikage is the kind of person that's a little emotionally distant and keeps her problems to herself. I wouldn't put it past Arakawa that Mikage doesn't want to share her problems wiith Hachiken precisely because she doesn't want his "Help everyone" kind of personality. Which is quite natural as well...

Of course..how the hell you could keep a farm with a mom and two little kids with no money to hire helpers? Plus they have to pay for tuitition for both kids and komaba..its heavy...komaba will most likely quit to help around the farm, get side jobs...etc

Just sucks to be the guy who missed the fly ball. Sure logically you know the wind just gusted at the absolute wrong moment, but still going to absolutely kill the guy.

Things are progressing nicely for Hachiken and Mikage. Mostly thanks to the fact that her friends clued her in on the situation earlier and now she's more aware. Nothing big really needs to happen immediately, just some nice progress.

That loss was a heartbreak for everyone concerned and Komaba handled it as gracefully as possible, but that poor right fielder is going to have nightmares for the rest of his life. That’s the ugly side of youth sports right there.

Of course in reality, at that level of competition (and the level of play - especially defense - in Japanese high school baseball is very high) it would be pretty rare for a guy to lose a routine flyball in the wind like that. Dramatic license I suppose.

Goddamn, that was a depressing episode. Being hit by the hammer of reality can really sober you up. I had no idea that Komaba's financial situation was in such dire straits.

I wonder if Hachiken could come up with some realistic way to help out his friends. Since Hachiken doesn't have a farming background, it puts him in a weird situation where everyone else but him knows the code of conduct. Since he's effectively an outsider, he's got a different outlook at his friends' farming problems. The first thought that leapt into his mind when he heard about Komaba's situation was how he could assist him. His friends knew the reality behind Komaba's situation because they're not unfamiliar with it, so naturally, they tell Hachiken with a heavy heart that this is beyond their capabilities.

Hachiken doesn't share their view, so all he can think about is how he can help his friend in need. The question is, can he? Because I too don't want to see Komaba simply leave because his character's got a lot of potential and it'd be a real shame to see his story end prematurely.

I think it would stretch disbelief to have a first year high school student magically come up with a solution to a problem that hundreds of adults who actually know what they're doing have resigned themselves to. He's good at studying, but these people aren't stupid.

The issue here isn't that Hachiken can somehow solve their problems, but he just wants to be a part of them. Er... I mean, not to be a part of the problem, but to share problems alongside them. To not be left out as an outsider who has nothing to do with it.

Hrmm, covered chapters 62 through 64. Little less than I'd have liked, but still plausible to get chapters 74 and 75 in the end. Overall, good episode. Liked seeing the scene where Komaba drove away animated, since it was nice seeing the Principal's reaction to Hachiken yelling. Also good to see Ayame getting some depth and being more than a one-trick pony... pun not intended.

Well, it doesn't look like the style of this show, but Hachiken looks like the kind of person who COULD become a good/successful administrator in the future. Though yeah, saving an entire business at the age of 14 screams Steve Jobs level of management & marketing genius

Talk about getting slapped by reality... that was a very harsh and depressing episode. The end worries me a bit. Everybody is right, Hachiken shouldn't involve himself too deeply, precisely because he's Hachiken. Trying to help a friend but being unable to do so is going to kill him. He needs to let go.

This is the most depressing episode of Silver Spoon so far. Hachiken's too generous for his own good. Hope things will turn out okay for Komaba though.
