No, those things, the 'grenades' with twisted screw treads are spinners, they spin in various directions to turn Wygar around on the spot, move sideways, front or back.

Actually, they seem to be grappling hooks of some sort as well, because Honoka basically uses them like harpoons against the security droid back in that episode when they're getting the Golden Orbs.

Those spinners look like thick drill bits up close. I'm guessing the threads are for traction and grip, though they look like metal instead of tyre threads, hence drill bits, which would allow greater ease in penetration as projectile weapons.

Also, the spinning effect increases the straightness of the trajectory of flight. That's why most guns spin the bullet when fired.

Hmm... drill bits. ^_^

Both Starsylph and ARC-II-J1 has normal wheels for spinners, but Wygar's very different.

Imo-chan calls Starsylph, a "QT-ARMs of the war-era" back in episode 1. Compared to Itsuki's ARC-II-J1, these QT-ARMs look more hi-tech and sleek. The same goes for the colonies themselves, Brain Colonies are much more high tech that what the normal colonies have.

But the interesting thing is that these 'ancient machines' really do look more 'ancient' in design, with decorated armour and gothic architecture. Compared to the normal time, blocky 'modern' design of ICP's QT-ARMs and 'modern' architecture in the colonies

^ Haha, it often seems that way, even today. Look at some of the cathedrals and old castles, then compare them with so-called modern architecture. Compare ancient Roman sculptures and Chinese brush paintings with 'modern art' that looks like paint splotches.

ARC-II-J1 looks quite nice though, and that scythe is awesome. The colour scheme of it reminds me of Fate's Bardiche from Mahou Shoujo.

After watching a certain mecha show, it made me hate the beam spammage.
Although I think I've gotten over it already.

Current I'm kind of interested in Ravana, Takane's QT-Arm, after seeing that huge ass beam saber (is it a right term in SoraKake's universe? ).

Btw, what do they call the QT-Arm's "MA mode" here?

Bows in an era of guns can be so nice

All the QT-arms we see so far with the exception of one have 2 types, an 'unshielded' and 'visored/helmeted' head.

At first I thought they're some kind of gun, but looks carefully, it's like beam sabers (lolz, wut?) or, well, grenade <_<.
Well those are grapping anchor hooks.

on that note, Wygar can probably snipe as well.

Anyone remember the game Homeworld and it's sequel? Extreme beam spammage by a fleet led by a woman wired up to a supercomputer.

PS Ravana's sabers => Spinning top of doom? Maybe they'll be called... Quantum transducing exothermic repulsion matrix. Q-Term. Yeah I made it up...

Ravana's swords are simply called 'Energy Swords', but they also point out that its extremely powerful.

The MA mode is called 'flying form', MS mode is 'walker form'.

Its only a translation of the kanji, they don't have some katakana names so there's no capital letters. QT-ARMS can shift their forms to various forms as long as you can visualise it and is within the capabilities of the machine.

Like what Akiha and Itsuki did back in episode one, to push Leopard's 'High Tension Lever', they transformed into a half flying, walker form with 'legs' pointing forward and hands extended to aid in more surface area for pushing.

Starsylph and Wygar's armour are 'high performance quantum technology enhanced armour'. ARC-II-J1 is an ICP experimental prototype.

QT-ARMs are refered to as 'powered suits'.

The exception of two, actually. (And sometimes three.) One is (the?) Ravana, which has no real cover on its cockpit to begin with, and the second is the ARC-III, a.k.a. Bouminda (which can split into two independent QT-ARMS, hence the "and sometimes three").
