Anime with masterpiece ending (Spoiler guaranteed)
Surprisingly i could not find a thread similar to this one. Maybe i just had a broken search skills. Or we just have so few good anime ending that it does not worth a thread to discuss in the first place. Not quite sure.
Anyway, have you guys watched an anime that, maybe it was a masterpiece by itself, or maybe it's just have a decent to good storyline? But then you approach the ending. That 5, 10 or even just one minute just break your emotions so hard, that you just look back on the whole ride and think "f*ck it, this one deserved to be a master piece" If you do please share it out here. I think Chrno Crusade got one but i got spoiled on it rather than watching the whole series itself. So I will not count, but it's definitely worth to mention. Another two masterpiece endings (for me) to throw it in: Spoiler for Higurashi Kai - Ultimately happy ending:
Spoiler for Penguin Drum - the forgotten:

s-CRY-ed, Little Busters! Refrain, and Texhnolyze are not my favorite anime, but at the top of my head their endings are the ones I remember for being masterpieces in themselves.
Spoiler for s-CRY-ed ending:
Spoiler for Little Busters! Refrain ending:
Spoiler for Texhnolyze ending:

The two absolute best endings for anime for me are Princess Tutu & Gunbuster
Princess Tutu doesn't just have one great ending but two. It's first ending at episode 13 is a tour Dr force of traditional storytelling. Like the title implies it is like you just finished watching an amazing ballet. However it's 2nd ending (the real ending) transcends this. Instead of telling a traditional tale it breaks apart the rules of storytelling and does so in a way that is both incredibly moving and true for all the characters As for Gunbuster, I liked the previous episodes well enough but it's really the ending that raises this series up. Again an ending that moved me to tears. It's hard for me to say what without spoiling but this story's ending leaves you with so much hope.

Anime shows that rely on adaptations of ongoing manga rarely have conclusive endings (for example, Claymore). Novel adaptations and, especially, original productions suffer less from this problem. So I'll start by suggesting the third and final episode of Nakamura Kenji's "Bake Neko," the last in an anthology of stories called Ayakashi Samurai Horror Tales. It's emotionally powerful though sad and disturbing. I won't say anything more. Bake Neko definitely attains masterpiece status in my book.
Monster is another masterpiece for me, and not just for the ending. Spoiler for ending:
Dennou Coil is on my masterpiece list, and being an original production, it has a satisfying ending. Spoiler for ending:
Bartender ends cleanly, though I would certainly have enjoyed more than its eleven episodes. I don't think there was any more of the manga to adapt. Not a masterpiece, but pretty damn good. Spoiler for ending:
Kill la Kill better end convincingly, or I'll be pissed at Nakashima. His Oh! Edo Rocket, another of my favorite shows, reaches a solid conclusion, but Nakashima had already written and staged it as a play. Spoiler for Oh! Edo Rocket ending:
And, finally, there is Cross Game. Spoiler for ending:

Daitarn 3, after 39 of comedy, with only small hints of plot, gets serious.
Spoiler for Daitarn 3:
Gungrave kinda goes downhill once the flashbacks are over but then... Spoiler for Gungrave:
Zeta Gundam's last episode is for sure my favorite ending. But instead of laughing or crying or whatever, I was just sitting there, downcast and sighing. Spoiler for Zeta Gundam:
OT.: I feel like the only person on internet that didn't like Princess Tutu. |

While nobody agrees that Yosuga no Sora's ending was a masterpiece but at least it was damn satisfying to me of course. Regardless what your theories and opinions toward it but I still can appreciate it. It was beautiful and sad at same time, just like a Van Gogh's paintings. The saddest part of it that it will never get a sequel or spiritual descendant due to the issues it played.
By the way I'm glad that nobody ever mentioned School Days yet. It was shocking but still a polished poop at best. The only reason why people want to see it because people can't stop talking about it, yes people know how to polish a poop: Hype it. After then the best reaction I heard all across the internet is "I have been trolled, hooray!". Yes some people just loves being trolled at. Honestly I personally avoided Yosuga no Sora intially because I thought it going to end like School Days but fortunately it wasn't. In fact it was light years ahead of SD, if not belong in a completely different universe in first place and I become an instant fangirl of YnS right after it ends. Even without my YnS fangirlism, it still safe to say YnS is million time better than SD in every aspects including the ending. |

Oh man, I can't believe I forgot about School Days!
That ending is definitely one of the best I've seen. It had me in complete shock for almost a week after I saw it and I just couldn't stop thinking about it. I couldn't even watch any other anime whilst I was in shock because it affected me that much. Great show.

^You're trolling right? [mod edit: I don't see how a] person can say School Days ending is the best unless you're trolling.
By the way I really liked Clannad After Story ending even though it's the opposite effect of the School Days one. Last edited by relentlessflame; 2014-02-28 at 16:39. Reason: Please don't use attacks |

I doubted about including it, but School Days has a totally great last few episodes, and the ending is on another level. Actually it's one of favorite shows. Being honest here.
I read the show as half deconstruction half cautionary tale, so it was the the whole point that things went down as they did. And after the continued spectacle of debauchery and moral decadence that involved almost every character it could only finish like it did. I can't help but take the phrase "there's noone inside" as a comment on said moral decadence. |

But before that it was a bloody mess.... What is it with Sekai? Don't have the gut to face her own problem, so she ended up backstabing Makoto in the back, and make him lose his head on Kotonoha. At least the gutless bitch got torn apart later. And by the end, Kotonoha totally got Makoto in the bag to ensure that he will never cheat on her again. I see quite a lack of good modern anime ending? Too many slice-of-life and too little story/character-driven anime?

Garden of Sinners - A very turblent build-up, gripping climax and an appropriate end that felt just right.
Kimagure Orange Road - Impactful yet so smart. Final two episodes tied in so well with how the whole saga began and gave one mind-blowing, character defining reason for why the girl that won persisted. The two movies just take it to another level. Losing something to gain what you've always wanted rarely hurt more. Setting it right proved to be an even bigger trial. Garden of Words - Well-handled and executed just right. Delicate and potentially dangerous subject matter made into a very compelling tale. Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade - You know what's coming...You dare to think it might not...You dare that there is hope...And then it is utterly smashed into oblivion. Don't think I'll ever see a more chilling end. Yet it was exactly as it should have been. Macross: Do You Remember Love? - Hard to think of a more iconic, epic climax scene. Gunbuster - Very clever use of black and white in that final episode. Clever twist for an ending and it felt so darn epic. Huh...just noticed they're all movies/OVAs or ended with a movie. TV series don't tend to end well, I guess.

School Days ending is neither good or masterpiece. People just can't stop "admiring" it. I'm not surprised that Hollywood writers never come with such idea because they knew how bad it is, with is unfortunately the anime writers just loves writing such crap over and over just because viewers love seeing it.

The school days ending was different from the norm of most harem anime endings. That's why it has become somewhat memorable, although it's more in an infamous way |
