Official word from Funi
Funimation announced that Full Metal Alchemist (FMA) will be released across 13 discs, in a 3 box-set plan. Each of the 3 box-sets will carry the 5/4/4 episode plan. And each box-set will have an interesting selection of pack-in material. The first volume of FMA will be released 01/18/2005.

Heh, and I got negative rep that called me 'ignorant' when I posted this in the already existing thread. Just goes to show, with some folks you can't win.
I didn't know about the release date, though. I'm kind of disappointed, since I was hoping that this would be out in time for Christmas. |

The boxes/tins will be released with the first volume of that box/tin contained within. The other DVDs will be sold seperately for most likely several months upto a year. After that they'll probably release full boxes/tins... Of course they might not do that as well. ^^:

Box releases tend to be done in one of two ways, either Disc 1 + Box, or Full series followed by a boxed set. Of course there are counterexamples such as Berserk and Karekano, which had both Disc 1 + Box and a later box release.
Funi tends to be Full series then collected box (Blue Gender, Yuyu Hakusho, Fruits Basket) but with newer shows it looks like they'll take ADV's lead and do Disc 1 + Box (Kiddy Grade, Case Closed.) But for something that will likely be a limited run, such as a metal box, there may not be a later collection. If there is, I doubt it'll be in such a nice container. |

I talked to funimation at their booth at Anime Expo, and they told me that disk one would be sold in a metal box starting in Jan. Hopefully more goodies come in it! They said they were thinking about it, but at the time were not sure. I think they want to see how popular the show will end up in the US before putting to much into it. At least thats how it seemed to me, though they were very excited about it.
-I hope they dont mess up the dub..... |
