Yeah, even if they do have an open border with the Sinai Desert, 4 years of only being able to bring in material through underground tunnels takes it's toll.
I mean they weren't even able to obtain concrete. Also the Egyptian border may be open, but only to people, not goods. And even then Men aged 18-40 are still not allowed past. Egypt has some blame in all of this, but it's not Egyptian boats patrolling the waters around Gaza |

A life without Meat is a life not worth living. Food is a joy I cannot do without.
Veganism sucks, 5 more years as a crippled old man ain't worth it if it means I have to live the rest of my life eating glorified rabbit food. Anyway, southern Europeans have very long life spans and they eat all that stuff in spades. Think about it: No Meat: Obviously no meat, but also no Meat stock in soups... No Dairy: no Cheese, no cake, no yoghurt, no milk in your coffee... No Eggs: Severely restricted pastries. No Oil: No fried food. What would we have left? Just salad... EDIT: Ever been to a vegan restaurant? Nasty... |

Gaza needs to be taken care of. It cannot function in its present state as a country and it is realistically divided from the West Bank. It should either be part of Egypt, Israel, or Palastine needs a way to effectively control both regions as a country, both socially and politically. It is too small to function on its own without some real form of economy.
Given political relations with Israel, there is almost no recourse but violence. I am surprized that Israel didn't just evict the whole lot of them 40 years ago, and repopulated the place entirely while they had the Siani Pennisula as well as buffer zone.

And yeah, look at the animal kingdom, and you'll see that the animals that eat meat are often the most intelligent animals. Straight herbivores are often dumb as a sack of hammers.

Also you do find "haves and have nots" in nature. That is pretty much the rule for carnivores. In a pack there is always an Aplha. The alpha gets to eat first, gets to mate first. Those that are not alpha sometimes get to eat, but it maybe les than survival level. And if you are not alpha you might not mate at all.
It gets worse outside the pack where you have to fight for your own territory, fight over the right to hunt or even live in an area of land. Fight over a mate. While herbivors might not have quite that bad, sevral still fight over mating rights. And they are in danger of being eaten as prey. Omnivors tend to be more intelligent since they can adapt to about whatever to eat, but have to figure out ways to avoid being eaten while also trying to find food. They are not immune to having a leader (aslpha) of a group, nor are thry above fighting over mates. Our "unnatural" society is designed to keep us from our more base animal instincts. It isn't money that changed us, it was civilization which starts with simple forms of aggriculture and the invention of tools. Even hunter_gatherers have some forms of both those things. They may not plant farms, but they do purposely replant things they use about were they got them, and they make and use tools. If anything could be blammed for our stranger behaviors versed animals it would be because of religion. Probably more so the monotheistic Judeac religions based on Jewish tradition, leading to various forms of Christianity and Islam. These have set many of our modern behaviors.

However, the much more important question is the aftermath. Will they be able to adapt a working democracy in the country? Will this lead to simply being replaced by another authoritarian tyrant? Is NATO & UN simply going to close the case, and not get involved in helping develop a better government for them? You know the proverb about giving fish or teaching how to fish.

But regarding Omnivores, I think most of them tend to be near the top of the food chain and not need to worry overly about predation. The two most obvious examples being Bears and Wolves, of course they'd still eat meat sooner then plants. I think a lot of people have an overly romanticised view of nature (Disneyfied perhaps...). The Irony is that when we set up anything that anthropomorphises animals, we tend to make the prey animals the "heroes" and the predators into "bullies". The really big Irony is that we ourselves are predators (perhaps the most effective ones of all!), and our favourite pets are also predators, namely Cats and Dogs. We're rather schizophrenic about the whole thing. I wonder how a vegan feels when he sees his cat brutally slowly kill and then play with a small rodent. And then the cat quite joyously devours the whole thing... I think the problem is that a lot of vegetarians live in cities and don't come into contact with animals frequently, so it's easier for them to anthropomorphise animals they rarely if ever see. Not only that, but if we stopped eating/hunting a lot of these animals, their populations would grow out of control! We're part of the ecosystem too! Obviously we need to keep ourselves a little in check (nature did too good a job with us), but if we stopped killing animals altogether... |
