I kinda like this as a non serious patlabor-ish show. A few things seems off though. Like why isn't the armor fully charged before hand and how the propeller plane is unaffected when jumped on by 2 seemingly heavy suits with their gold haul.

I enjoyed Episode 1 of Active Raid. For me, it was a very engaging roller-coaster ride of fun. Not downright thrilling, but still lots to like. What particularly stands out to me, in a good way, is just how polished and slick this show looks to me. I really love the visuals.
All of the above being said, I can see why some others wouldn't like it. This show seems to be for people that like sentai heroes, Kamen Rider shows, and anime shows like Samurai Flamenco and Tiger and Bunny. That fits me pretty well, but I know it's not for everyone. Also, the dialogue is extremely quick, feeling slightly Americanized to me. Combine that with the fast-moving brisk plot, and I found it a struggle to keep up with in certain moments. However, I suspect the language barrier is a big factor here - It probably would flow better if I didn't have to rely on subs, which native Japanese speakers don't have to, of course. Given the all-around flashiness of Episode 1, I can understand some finding the show silly. However, I think there's some real potential depth to this show. A lot of it can be hard to pick-up on because of how fast the dialogue is, but certain lines stood out to me as rising above standard "anime" dialogue. Some of the dialogue struck me as sharp and mature, showing a strong awareness of the worlds of business and law enforcement and politics. Also, there's a definite method to the madness of the protagonists here. As flashy as it all is, I could tell that protocol really does matter in this show - The characters are in fact pretty careful to do things in a way that fits with rules and regulations. Granted, there was quite a bit of property damage done in the climatic moment of Episode 1, but it did seem reasonably contained to me, and I don't think any lives were lost. This is all a round-about way of saying that I think this show might end up being smarter than what it may appear at first glance.

As reported by the operator, the building where they fought was scheduled for demolition anyway, so it's not really that much of a property damage

I'm sorry, but all I see are clichés and boring stuff. I watched this over with my wife and she focused more on what our hamsters were doing more than in the story.
I think for me what doesn't work is the dynamic, I was annoyed the whole time the main girl tried to say something and someone cut her, I mean, don't call someone you don't want to hear! And seriously, I predicted everything that was happening in the episode the moment she saw the main protag guy in the train. I new he was the main guy, I knew he was going to show up somewhere late to save the "surprise"... And why does she regurgitate English out of nowhere? What was the reason for gratuitous foreign language there? But I guess people can still enjoy big robot fights... |

Funnily enough, the fight is among the least thing that I enjoy. I mainly enjoy the characters and the banters more.

Episode 2:
Hmm... Well okay, I think this episode was slightly better than the previous but I'm not feeling it still. The comedy is awkward and I wonder if there will be an expanded story soon. The police enforcement and law themes are serious concepts yet the show is pretty lighthearted. I hope the story gets darker soon. Also, this show has like 24 episodes so I hope we get at least some characterization. On another note, I find the ED theme to be kinda cute for some reason.

unless this is 2 cour, hopefully they will change this into 24 episode or more or less if possible It's Interesting episode, finally i can make loves for the characters now, especially to female casts I can like the Captain-chan (i thought her younger sister was her twin, they are too alike) she has leader mindset to not make reckless action to save her sister also i feel sorry for her make that sorry poses multiple times to her Superior Kagari is all right, still is bit annoying naive with her Justice view but that is why someone with her character is necessary in the team. The plus point for me is there are none immature idiot in team 8 which i can satisfy it the usual shounen boy would gone save struggled Kagari like an idiot |

The director said it will be a fun story. So no dark things, I think. At leat not Code Geass-stuff (I believe the presence of this director is getting expectations towards a different kind of show).
Episode 2 was fun, but with IMS, you can already see the quality of animation degrading (not CG since it's done by Orange)... Quote:

That train looks pretty cumbersome and time-consuming, and still requires other trains and that portable propellers to get into scene. If the armored officers can really travel that far, why not just launch them directly from their headquarters?

Episode 2
Another highly enjoyable episode for me. They did well to make the MC a lot more likeable (not that I disliked her before) and give her more development. And it's also still going strong on the socio-political elements which I think are fairly grounded. There are still some fanservice and anime-tropes flying around but its tolerable thus far.

ep 2
...Well it's certainly not lacking for power. But is something like that REALLY aimed commercial use? That aside, I wasn't expecting a Rin episode so soon. Man is her job ever thankless, no wonder she drinks heavily at night. Glad to see that Asami can actually hold her own, though I was wondering why Kyoukai didn't just ask directly to see her Willwear for maintenance/configuration? Then again she seems really stubborn about things like this... which kind of bit her in the ass there for awhile. Overall I agree everyone else that this week was more enjoyable, partly thanks to everything not being so breakneck pacing wise compared to premier. |
