But the problem is its a double-edged sword... and i'm pretty sure the hero faction don't have darkened shades.

There was a poll at the start of the Maou-sama nicolive feat. Ryota Ohsaka (Maou) and Yuki Ono (Alsiel) where the audience had to vote for the character they liked. Results were:

1. Sadao Maou (Demon Lord Satan) - 20.8%
2. Shiro Ashiya (Great Demon General Alsiel) - 22.7%
3. Emi Yusa (Emilia the Hero) - 9.3%
4. Chiho Sasaki - 33.9%
5. Miki T - 13.3%

Miki T had more votes than Emilia. What the hell, audience? XD

Yuki Ono mentioned that Alsiel had more votes than Maou because he’s the main character, to which Ohsaka pointed out that Chi-chan must be the the main character in that case.

There was also this golden segment where Ohsaka had to read a tongue twister while imitating Chiho’s voice as punishment for losing a game. The beginning where he tested his voice out before starting was lol worthy too. XD

I never expected Emilia to be so unpopular. Even Miki T got more votes, come on...

I believe that Emi is so unpopular due to the fact she is a extremely tsun and does not have any dere at all towards Maou, hence she probably doesn't appeal to the audience. She probably becomes more dere as the series gets along and will hopefully become more popular when she actually starts falling for Maou unfortunately we probably won't see that within this season

There are more violent tsun females than her, like both Mikoto and Index from Index and Kirino from OreImo, and they are fairly popular.
