Good fillers are fillers that aren't obvious enough to be notice and judge as "fillers".
Non-good fillers are obvious and has little or no relation to the progress of the plot..... Well, l'm not really sure if the episodes that contains some of the subjects below are considered "just fillers".... I thought about them because they often appear if not all in most anime.... Example: Beach episode, "going to buy a swimsuit/dress together" episode, cultural festival episode, sports festival episode, valentines day episode etc |

Real life has a lot of "filler" and you get a better understanding of the people in it as a bit more "real" ... a well-done "filler" actually supports the feeling that the characters are "real".
The OP tried, but the word is a bit of an arm-waver that is often used by people who seem to think something should be happening every second. OTOH... series that go on too long rely on episodes that don't actually show any lasting changes - *those* are what I tend to call fillers. American television series until the last few years were often "fillers" from start to finish. Nothing would really change. Exceptions like MASH were basically exceptions. Even the "top four" anime series are buried in them - any real change happens at a glacial speed.

I'm starting to consider the best approach being slow pacing rather than filler arcs. That is a DBZ episode of yelling and then an irrlevant scene with someone doing something stupid being better than having 10 episodes in a row of something totaly pointless that will add nothing to the whole.
I still prefer no fillers and something going on all the time though. If I wanted a series full of everyday fillers, I would be watching reality shows. |

I believe it is part of the series to add sorta a comedy side to all the story-telling the story is focusing itself on. It was probably just added to the show to add some hilarious comedy to lighten the mood

Fillers are the reason why there are so few shows I can stomach with runs over 50 eps long.
Granted, I don't hate all fillers, but there's just so few and far in between that's actually really well done.

For this I do agree, sometimes fillers just sorta distaste from the anime that had a good start, eventually making it go past the 50 episode limit where some fans might actually get tired and stop watching.

Shakugan no Shana is probably a nasty offender at fillers.
However, if you have an idea on the plot in the light novels, you would certainly understand the need for fillers (i.e. Many things in the light novels do not involve Yuji, and the anime is clearly Yuji-centered).

I like fillers depending on the amounts if it was on a 26 episode or lower anime then I'll like it because it'll become too fast paced without them. If it was like Naruto then I wouldn't like them because it just ruins the anime's pace.

i dislike mostly all filler. One of the reasons i quit Naruto. i hate solitary episodes more than i hate arcs, even in short animes. the idea of inturrupting the plot for 22 minutes of an event that shall never be reference upon again or accomplish anything justs annoys me

If the filler has a story, someone needs to tell them THEY ARE DOING IT WRONG! I don't mind filler, if it's just amusing side tails or some other character goodies. Worthless Plot Injection is a big no-no however.
