Stories without pictures are risky, I guess, kind of like "chapter books" are a big scary step for some?

They're not "harder" to license. It is just a newer market in a cloudy economy. Also, translation costs run higher because there are so many more words. On the other hand, there's far fewer issues with resolution of graphic mastering.

There's a few light novels I'd like to see translated and released.... all I can offer is put your requests in to Yen Press since they're the front runner at the moment.

With a few exceptions, they sell horribly. That's why pretty much every company, even Bandai, tried their hand at a couple and quickly went running away from them.
