There is the potential that there will be no lightsaber action is Solo. But there should be a new lightsaber or two in Episode IX.

I expect there to be zero lightsaber action in Solo. Anything else is just asking to be disappointed for the sake of being disappointed. If there are lightsabers, then good. But Han made it clear he doesn’t believe in the force or the Jedi in ANH, so there’s almost zero chance he ever encountered anyone with a lightsaber before.

This thread better not turn into one of those toxic Star Wars fanbase forums where people turn on you if you don’t say the prequels and new movies are bad. Maybe it’s a bad idea to voice myself in this thread anymore......

Or to joke. (The joke, BTW, wasn't about the prequels being good or bad, but about the child turning into Darth Vader.)

(Though what isn't a joke is that I'm not big on child soldiers, so unless the next movie is set at least 10 years later...)

That much was perfectly clear. What you were referring to.

I don’t know if it’ll be ten years later, but it won’t be anytime soon after TLJ. There’s no way to build a movement against the First Order in any short amount of time.
More to the point, I’m not sure where you get the idea of child soldiers. Because, again, the boy represents hope, that there are people anywhere and everywhere who will be willing to join the Resistance when they start to rebuild it. And maybe it will be ten years later and we’ll see the same boy grown up in the Resistance.

A symbol of hope....if one random boy could be a Jedi someday, there must be many more out there as well. Of any age, now that the Sith and Jedi are basically gone, there was no one actively recruiting or executing Force Sensitives galaxy wide for a generation now. While there was an awakening, and a tale of hope, soon the Force will return to the galaxy like it was before the Sith, before the Jedi. Those orders can start anew.

And by random boy I mean, he's not the chosen one, he isn't the son of some fancy Jedi or Sith, and he's not the big new hero. He's just the random boy that can use the Force, dreaming of the Resistance. Sort of like many a boy did on the playgrounds in the late 1970s and early 1980s, when the main hero was this farm boy named Luke Skywalker.

Wonder why they announced the Rian Johnson trilogy so early... I mean this is looking like making less than Age of Ultron which was a disappointment to Disney....

The Last Jedi has already made more money than Age of Ultron domestically, which was what disappointed Disney. Age of Ultron made most of its money overseas, while Star Wars is still roughly 50-50 on earnings, and already over $1.2 billion USD.

Domestically, The Last Jedi is the sixth highest grossing film in the United States above The Dark Knight and below Marvel's The Avenger. And The Last Jedi is still in theaters.

The highest grossing film domestically for the United States is The Force Awakens. By well over $100,000,000 over Avatar. Most of Avatar's 2 billion plus of from overseas box offices.

That is exactly how it should have ended.

Sorry but no, the original ending is just fine how it is (I personally loved the movie... Although I do agree that Admiral Akbar in that one scene would have been plain amazing), if I wanted to see the fanboy headcanon version where every single thing fans wanted happened I would go and google some Star Wars fanfics.

There was no lightsaber action in Rogue One and I loved that movie all the same.

I'm assuming you walked out of the cinema right after the base was blown up.

That better not be a blanket statement when it comes to TLJ problems. That movie has so many more issues than just "Not providing the fans what they want". These trilogy videos are the more comprehensive critiques on TLJ which point out almost all the problems:

There might not have been a duel between lightsabers in Rouge One, but there was definately "lightsaber action" in it. It's one of the movie's most popular scenes.

That's pretty funny. These videos have same issue as The Last Jedi, way too long.

I mean seriously, I'm watching the first video right now and it's just nerd nitpicks.

Duration is one of the least important problems of TLJ.

Also, something comprehensive needs time and space. It’s not like the video-maker use the duration pointlessly. He’s fully analyzing the problems bit by bit. If you want a shorter review, well, look somewhere else, these videos are not.

And it's funny how some people throw blanket statements to those who dislike TLJ but when presented a valid and comprehensive analysis of the movie like the above videos, they just dismiss it as "nerd nitpicks" when it addresses many valid things such as TLJ's writing that's very problematic on its own regardless of it being in SW franchise or not.

There are parts of TLJ I like more than TFA, though TFA on the whole is a better film both structurally and for character. The Finn and Rose story on the casino planet is very "Jar Jar is the key to everything" intertwined but nowhere near as insufferable so much as it is bland. The biggest offender for character though is the purple haired commander who comes across as a scolding mother instead of a strict C.O., compounded with egregiouis reasoning that she had no reason to keep to herself, ended up neutering what would've been an effective climax for her character arc. The film also feels like it has four acts, which length in itself is not a problem so much as it is the lack of there there to distract someone from how long a film is

But the best part of the story is unequivocally the Rey, Kylo, and Luke storyline. The brilliant juxtaposition of shots between Rey and Kylo, the pull from Dark to Light and Light to Dark with both the narrative thrust behind their doubts and the acting to match, and the reality of meeting a man whose legend, both in-universe and outside it, far exceeds him. Rey conveys some much needed vulnerability to counterbalance the sheer strength behind her, while Kylo Ren, my favorite character from TFA, now cements himself as my favorite Star Wars villain, representing the Dark Side as the force of passion it's always proclaimed to be, and more than showing enough combat prowess discard the plumes of a peacock. The explosiveness of KR is something I look forward to for Episode IX

Spoiler for Ending:
