Kino no Tabi - Animated Novel (NOT LICENSED)

On the cover of the first novel of the Kino no Tabi (Kino's Travels series), was written the following (translated of course for you):

"Kino, why do you continue travelling?"

"Well, every now and then, don't you consider yourself a useless, foolish
and diminuitive existence? An incredibly ugly existence? I'm not sure why,
but sometimes there are times when I feel that way. But, when those times
occur, I feel like I should look to other things. Like the world, or how
other people live and how beautiful and wonderful they are. I guess I could
think of it as my passion. I always want to know more and more about them, so
to achieve that, I feel like I have to continue travelling."
---------In the form of short stories composed together, this is the story of
a journey taken by the human, Kino, and the talking motorrad, Hermes. A new
sensational work worthy of a Nobel Prize!

We at 3D-Fansubs are proud to present you with the Prologue of the first Novel animated. Please stay tuned for Chapter 1!

Nice job on it. Although, I wonder is it really necessary to release it as an AVI? Why not release as a Flash movie? It would be higher quality that way (since there's only fading effects)

In the first novel, most of the chapters are about 30-40 pages. The Coliseum, a much later chapter, is an exception which is about 70 pages. When we get to that point, we'll probably split it in two.

It's interesting for sure, but I think I'd prefer something a little less flashy, like a text file or pdf.

What I meant was the file size.

so each chapter is about 30-40 pages... that means each file for a chapter should be about 50M?

oh, and it's quite cool IMO.

Ah we're not sure yet, but I'm working really hard on the trans' ^^;;.. About sizes and how we'll be handling chapter 1, you'll have to talk to Demn

I forgot to ask, will you be including scans of the artwork?

And uh, once you're done with Kino, may I be so bold as to suggest the Boogiepop novels? ^^

Kino no Tabi Novels have the following artwork: One colored page for each chapter in the table of contents, the cover, and black and white drawn opening pages of each chapter. Everything else is text. It's not like manga at all. If I had a scanner, I'd scan what I could, but unfortunately I don't

As for Boogiepop? I really didn't enjoy the anime much, and novel translation (normally 200+ pages of straight japanese text) does take sometime, so if anything, it would be in the far future.

Ballz already mentioned this, but could you release the translation in a pdf or some sort of text file?

A lot of people have been asking, so for when we release chapter 1, there'll probably a dual release. Video and .pdf or .txt. If we do decide to go .pdf/.txt, the translation of chapter 1 will also contain the prologue with it

I just found out about this animated novel, and I must say it's quite interesting. It feels like something that I would read before I sleep, on my bed. Like a bedtime story...has that tranquil and calm atmosphere about it. But it's too bad I can't read it on the comfort of my bed without hauling my monitor in the process.

EDIT: Dragosmore posted before me. Great! I can print it off and I'll have something to read before I go to sleep.

some suggestions : maybe you could use the colored page for the background of each of the chapter? Also I think maybe more variety in background music is nice. At least put two or three music in a loop instead the same music again and again?

Just in general, I've given in and begun typing up a formatted .txt (rather than the one I t/l in) for public release. It will be released with Chapter 1 and will contain the Prologue and Chapter 1. More will be added as it's continue. Since I designed it in 800 x 600 mode, I guess that would be it's best reading size?

We plan to try and use a different background for each chapter. As for music, in the first one, that was only the first ~2:30 of one of the karaoke'd tracks in the anime series. Right now, we have about 15-17 minutes of music to work with, and when we run out, we plan to find something just as appropriate

I hope you enjoy! If you're lucky, Chapter 1 might be next week! (Direct novel translation takes some time. Hehe)

I look forward to it. And yeah, novels are just more timestaking/difficult because most translators are familiar with dialogue and not with descriptions.

Cool, thanks. The video itself is pretty neat, but sometimes I want to read at my own pace, or maybe even print it out.

Bummer you didn't get hooked on Boogiepop. I always felt the tone and pace between Kino and Boogiepop were similar, which is why I thought I'd throw it out as a suggestion.

btw Thanks for doing this. I really look forward to reading it!

sounds really cool, I'll be waiting for chapter 1 for sure

Finally I can read the novel as I always wished since I first watched the OVA the year before last year.
