One Piece - Chapter 602 (manga)

^Personally, I tend to (partially) agree with Shankss and Hisoka on this. Seeing Rayleigh do his Gandalf impression was certainly fun and cool and badass. But then, Hancock shows up for no real reason. Okay, whatever, I love Hancock, and I've been waiting for Sanji's reaction to her for ages now. So, kinda cool. But then, Herculesun shows up. Okay...what? And then the Weatheria professors show...come on Oda, this is getting a little silly now. And then the Okama Brigade appears......

Undoubtedly, Oda did all this as a proper send-off, but I can't help but wonder why he actually thought the fans needed such a scene, especially considering a similar scene already played out with Brook just last week.

Whatever the case, at least the Strawhats are finally reunited and the story can pick up again. Can't wait to see how Jinbei has changed (also can't wait to find out how he can still hang around Fishman Island without the WG trying to kill him).

(Additionally, Perona is cuter than ever…)

Oda loves these kind of things. That's one of One Piece's problems at this point. While the scale of the story gets bigger, the related cast and characters do as well, and Oda makes an effort to give props to every character related to the events, even if it takes a lot of chapters.

At this rate, by chapter 700, it'll take 2 chapters just to show the reaction of all the interested parties regarding the return of the Strawhats. ( Vivi, Dadan, Makino, Garp, Admirals, Dragon, Baratie, Zoro's Teacher, Nami's Island, Kaya, etc. ) and 3 chapters by chapter 800.

OP has always way been about dreams and helping your friends.
It's not hard to see why there master and friends they spend the last 2 years with would help them.
All of them want the SH to get to FI with out problems or for them to get delay .
There going to stick around until they see them off like what friends would do .
Oda not doing something like this would be strange , he's going to show the people that help them one last time for a while.

They are the ones that brought them. What with this "they have no reason to be there" nonsense? Is it wrong to help/send off someone you been with for 2 years? It's not, this is One Piece. Friendship.

I personally think that's not that bad to see almost everyone related to the SHs in the past two years showing up. Oda simply makes it clear that the SHs not only trained hard but also made friends and strong allies respectively in different places which is an important pre-condition for Luffy to become the pirate king.

Besides, Hancock had to watch Luffy's back because he was paddling his way to Sabaody Archipelago and couldn't swim (if he fell into water); Zorro needed Perona to not get lost; Sanji probably didn't need those okamas to get back but they simply loved to pursuit him LOL; Chopper and Nami were brought to the islands by their mentors/friends as well. So it makes sense that all their allies are still around and help them to escape as a farewell and a demonstration of the crews new power in addition to their physical strengh.

I find the chapter rather sweet than inapt, but it would be definitely more interesting to see at least one of the admirals standing in their way.

The problem isn't really that these characters appeared (though I understand Small One's comment concerning the issue), but rather that Oda never properly set-up their inclusion. Well the chapter is already out and we know that Perona was the one who got Zoro to the island... it's no wonder how he managed to get there first; he'd be lucky to get there at all if he went alone. Ah a bid a fond farewell to perona, since i doubt she'll pop up again; though hopefully she'll get a mini-arc

Also how much an explanation is really needed... is it so hard to believe that each of the strawhats were not alone when they came back. They likely all had some kind of escort... as for Boa, i mean come on she is completely obcessed with Luffy, why WOULDN'T she stop by to make sure his departure went un-hindered

the 'teachers' (most of them) will quite likely never see their SH pupils again ever - so yeah, it's alright to send em off without a hitch

The very same reason the okamas are here: they accompanied the respective strawhats they spend two years with to Shabondy. Nothing strange about that. It was obvious Perona was around since there is no way in hell Zoro could have managed to get there all alone. I do feel their interventions were needless, but mah, fanservice moments like these are fine once in a while.

I love Perona's new outfit. She looks a lot cuter now.

It would have taken way more than 4 pages to beat all the marines there and get rid of the war ships.

You guys made up in your minds that they already left when we never saw them leave or any hints were showed.
Oda does not have to set up every little thing .

In fact it makes more sense that they are still on the island.

Ray lives there .
Boa not going to leave until she see luffy goes to FI that how she is.
The okama's just got there .
If Perona left the island with Zoro why would she go back so fast after 2 years.
Ussop master has been stuck on island for how many years it's not like he has any where to go.
Bird came with chopper , it will stick around until he leaves .
Same for the Weatheria .

What reason do have to leave just because they drop off the SH.

There not only Masters to SH but also friends they spend last 2 years with .
OP is about dreams and friendship and that's the reason they stick around to help them.

Sanji's reactions to Hancock, Nami and Robin and the fact Luffy was on Amazon Lily was absolutely hilarious. xD

Perona's new look wasn't what I was expecting when I read the description, but it still suits her character so I'm not complaining.

Finally it's time for the Fishman Island arc.~
