Nostalgia Critic Kinda ruined anime for me
Just finished watching captain Harlock cgi movie and well I spent the entire movie thinking how NC would slaughter this one if he were to review it.
Anyway, with that aside, I'm really begging for someone to recommend me some anime that's is purely logic driven. And by that I mean, no bullshit scenes like letting anime enemy off the gun point because suddenly the enemy said something cool that trigger a rather fond memory or something sentimental in the protagonist head then they make up and become bitter sweet friends. I think basically I'm really looking for a type of anime that has cool elements of anime like powers and mechs but with the sort of character and plot development as Ghost in the shell has. I loved Basilisk, Ergo Proxy, Serei no Moribito, Ghost in the shell, Gundam 00 In the recent memory I loved: Attack on Titan, Gargantia on verdurous planet In the recent memory I disliked: Captain Earth (same old fking pre-puberty boy save the day shit) Captain Harlock ("Cool" over actual substance) Appleseed alpha (Rather predictable and characters are two dimensional, again "cool" over substance) Please, I'll be watching any recommendation with Nostalgia critic's mindset so...

I'd suggest Psycho-Pass and Shin Sekai Yori extremely highly for this.

I'll show you Psycho-Pass like the others mentioned. I did heard that the show bears some influence from Ghost in the Shell and while I have seen little of it myself, I did find P-P intriguing in both plot and characterization.

Sorry for the thread defibrilation, but if your still watching this thread, you MIGHT like Puella Magi Madoka Magica. This is a big maybe, but it has a lot in common with some of the recommendations and favorites.
For the first three episodes, it appears to be a magical girl anime, but from episode three on, you are introduced to a world of character deaths, Faustian "pacts with the devil", amoral aliens, the inevitable heat death of the universe, a bit of "sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" and a badass time travelling magical girl who has little offensive magic, but makes up for it with stolen military hardware named Akemi Homura (pictured on my avatar with a rocket launcher). It would entail spoilers to say how all this fits together, but trust me, it is a dark, emotionally stirring story. Also, it was written by Gargantua creator Gen Urobuchi, so if you liked Gargantua, as well as the previous recommendations of Psycho-Pass, and in particular Fate/Zero (Akemi Homura essentially IS a younger Kiritsugu Emiya), I'd recommend giving it a try. |
