Even placental copies that seem to communicate like Benisuzume or placental Hoshijiro are not necessarily indicative that actual Gauna sapience (if they are sapient) is anything like human sapience; the Gauna don't necessarily understand what is going on with a piece of placenta that starts behaving similarly to a human when it is made to mimic human shape. They might just know that these behaviors are useful.
The Gauna appear to be intelligent but unable to communicate with Humans on any level. They do not have concepts of individuality, separateness, and cannot leave well enough alone. From destroying Earth in their first (?) encounter to present-day battles with Sidonia, the Gauna act like a primitive octopus or jellyfish more than an intelligent or hyper-intelligent species.

Explore. Engulf. Analyze. React to pain. Fight back using the enemy's own tactics. This is what the Gauna do, but for every Human they engulf, devour, and copy, somehow they do not communicate with the analog created. But they do copy Gardes' fighting tactics, Higgs cannons, and acknowledge how Sidonia is a threat, not just the Gardes coming out of Sidonia. The Gauna's only strategy from day one has been "bigger is better", gathering more and more cores together to defeat a perceived threat.

It's a big universe, and the Gauna would do well to just avoid Sidonia altogether, but appear to be unable to ignore the generational vessel. Either attracted to the hybrid(s) inside, the original kabi, or both, the Gauna keep coming, and coming aggressively. So the only response is annihilation.

(afaik we know pretty much nothing on the properties of a higgs particle other than its a trait of guana and can be concentrated into 'lasers')

It is a pseudo-science plot device, but one that is most likely inspired by real science.

Oh, I'm well aware that the Higgs Boson is a real particle thats just recently been discovered (after being predicted through theory). Its a nice homage from the author but a plot device it still is since the Higggs Boson has nothing to do with what the Higgs particles can do in this setting.

Lol, Tsugumi in a nutshell:

We get more Izana and Nagate this episode again. I think the series really builds a good chemistry between the two.

Poor Izana; nothing ever quite goes her way. Even Yuhata can't stay amusingly super-jealous over Nagate doing stuff with a girl, once she figures out it's Izana...

Damn, what a tease, in more ways than one; first they show that clip of Blame! and the animation looks better in that than the series characters =01. Then Izana dressing up in some kinky gear, and ending the ep with Nagate looking as if he's going to confess. I'm really digging these comedic, slice-of-life moments; they're cute, and very entertaining. I know there'll be all too little of them once they reach the hive cluster.

It's some kind of cosplay from another series by the same author. Maybe Blame, maybe another, I don't recall.

Tanikaze's Harem: The Episode.

Well, I guess they do need something like this before they go all out on the gauna.

And it's weird when the loli of the harem is actually a gardes sized chimera.

Izana still deserves to win, any "it" that is willing to turn female deserves to win

So, this show continues to be wonderful. The show-within-a-show at the start felt like the studio devoted a few more FPS to it than they usually allocate to the main show. The slice-of-life parts are interwoven with the very serious business that goes on elsewhere; such as Yure's talk with Sasaki, or Izana's testing of her direct neural interface with her ship (which brings up the very obvious question of why they don't have everyone else directly interfacing with their ships as well? They clearly have the technology for it, and a direct neural connection would eliminate the quarter-second or so of time it takes for the brain to process information and command the muscles to action. Granted, they haven't really needed that much reaction time for most of Sidonia's flight, but still; it's capability that's left on the table far too often in sci-fi shows.)

can you imagine sasaki in one of those dresses? jeez.

anyways, it seems like they blew their budget on the first 30 seconds of the episode, so the rest of it was pretty tame. that said, hilarious episode. i don't even know who to ship any more. also, i laughed out loud during the scene with Yure and "I'll blow your head off."

In some ways the population of Sidonia seems very... old fashioned, i guess. They are preserving a lot of culture and artifacts from the Earth they lost, which none of them is even old enough to remember, and this might include their very concept of what makes a 'human.' As such, the Transhumanist fervor embodied by Ochiai (and Yure, to a far lesser extent) still raises eyebrows. The technology to make full-conversion cyborgs has been in Sidonia's hands for centuries, but it is still viewed as something you don't use unless it's 'necessary.'
