Siesta's appearance means bit more filler material since Siesta usually takes part in not so serious parts of the story... Not that it is a bad thing though.
I suppose she's saying "nyaa" or something like that...
Maybe the author just gave up and decided to go on with a ridiculous love comedy full of ecchi stuff
hey this looks interesting in the 16th novel Chapter 3 - Henrietta's Melancholy, Louise's Anxiety, Saito's Promotion
if anyone reads and knows what happens here mind sharing with us i can't imagine saito getting another promotion as he is an outsider in their world with the title of chevalier or something
It was mostly a building up/peace-time volume where little happens, but it feels like much happens... Or something like that? Either way, besides the end, it wasn't really exciting. Though it works as a good rest from the heaviness before.
Therefore, there are few developments only on characters, so there is not much to say.
...
At the most, Henrietta, I guess. But it's complicated to put to words... I guess her feelings really reminded me of Sekai from School Days. In fact, quite similar?! (Plus worries as a Queen)
If someone tries to make a nice boat joke at my comment, I seriously might hunt you down, OK? So don't even try.
The development near the end with Louise running away was honestly not so great (well, in the end, it's Louise after all. What to expect...). It feels like this has been gone and done many times. Louise feels sad-->Saito makes up-->Saito still looks at other girls-->Repeat
But then again, most of the seriousness this episode felt old, so...
Well, Siesta's appearance brings comedy and brings me joy, Derflinger's last stand was cruelly sad (even more since Saito didn't do lasting damage, that rotten Julio is planning something (or maybe not, but to me, everything he does is planning something), and there are four creepy siblings I want dead on the loose.
It was a good volume, for the most part.
Summary for volume 16... I guess...
Spoiler for summary:
Chapter 1...
We start the volume back at the Magic Academy (at the ball area), after Tabitha became the new ruler and the war has settled down. Osmand introduces the heroes, the Undine + Louise and Tiffania, and the students go wild. Then he goes to each of them, telling they can hug them, which they all refuse. Malicorne goes OK, but Osmand stops the joking. I believe this is the first time the rest of the Undine were introduced, name-wise? Too many katakana, so not going to bother translating them all...
Anyways, he proceeds to give rewards. Guiche becomes a chevalier, the rest of the undine get medals, and the two girls are appointed as bishops to some place (Juno?). To some it all up, everyone can now get lots of money, especially the girls. But Saito gets nothing...?
Then we get a good Guiche x Monmon moment, but as expected, in the end, their love-love moment gets interrupted. *sigh*
And in the meantime, Malicorne is crying over the joy of becoming popular again. That Brigitta(?) from volumes back comes over and they make up (yay~), but he soon finds out that she woke up sadism while he was away (rather... his fault?). Have a good time, Malicorne. Wait!!!! Switch with m-... *cough* Moving on...
Next, we have Louise and Saito. Saito worries that the Pope might find some way to get to the Holy Lands without all four Void users (Joseph, being dead), but Louise argues back that he made a mistake, not killed Joseph on purpose and gave a good reason for that. (Though in cases like this, this always turns out to be a flag, no?)
Then we have a long moment where Louise gets tsuntsun or whatever and worries about Saito going to someone else while Saito tries to convince her that he's only looking at her, , she tells herself that she is a noble and can't just let him do anything, etc. The usual stuff, and they dance to the same music as the first time at the beginning of the series (Louise continues to worry).
Tiffania, in the meantime, is crowded by males, who no longer care that she is an elf anymore.
After the ball, Louise got a bit drunk and they headed to their room. Saito thinks about finally getting somewhere with Louise (the last few times he tried, he always failed, as everyone knows), but his inner self fights over what to do.
Anyways, he asks Louise to say something incredibly hilariously amusing, and she finally does after being convinced a bit. (Big laughter)
And that was outside of their room.
And he picks her up and goes in...
And Siesta and the maids (inside, planning a welcome back party?) had heard Louise.
A cold greeting by Siesta, the rest of the maids break out in laughter. (Me too)
Louise gets incredibly embarrassed and starts kicking Saito.
Next scene, Siesta treating Saito (Her long line about how she won't get all that mad unlike a certain someone if he looks away or kisses someone else, but will kill him if he goes further is too priceless, hihihihihi! >_<). And then Louise tries to beat her by telling her that she won't be needed in their (Louise+Saito's) mansion, but Siesta wonderfully argues back that she isn't the one to decide that and that since the Queen gave her the position, she'd be disobeying the Queen if she fired her.
So, Siesta decides that she'll follow the two in searching for a new mansion (AKA, her new workplace).

Chapter 2
So they decide to search, but Louise is utterly annoyed by Siesta tagging along and complains about all of the buildings. Needless to say, you have to feel sorry for the guy handling the business.
Looking through a mansion, Siesta is introducing/explaining everything inside to Saito while Louise looks on bitterly. She tries to get some attention herself, but being a noble with "no common sense (By: Saito)", she only ends up making a fool of herself. She ends up seeing a frog and scared, blasted it. The guy handling the business gives up.
Anyways, they end up at Scarron's place... Scarron tries an "adult solution" and says the obvious, but no matter what, Louise did not want Siesta coming along to the new mansion, despite her already realizing that they needed her to do the housework and everything and was better than some random unknown maid.
Scarron points out that Saito has become really famous around the town (people coming up to him and asking him to name their baby, etc...).
There seems to be a play based off of his actions at Albion...?
So they went to see the play... There, the group (mainly Louise/Saito) realized how popular he had become with the commoners (his name has turned into something... Hirigil?). And that on the other hand, the nobles are finding him very unpleasant. Scarron explains how by hiring some unknown person, who knows when Saito will get poisoned and killed, and that it is necessary to hire someone who they can absolutely trust.
In the meantime, Saito was thinking about his new popularity and what the people at home (Earth) would think. (Uwa... Kanashii...)
As they leave the theater, the idiot Undine squad arrives and not realizing how popular Saito has become, reveals to everyone around them he was there, causing Saito to get swarmed until Agnes arrives and forces the civilians away. Then she gives him a message to go to Henrietta's place.
--
Chapter 3
We start off with the Queen who should be given the title Joseph had, Henrietta, as she worries over various things. About Saito, about Charlotte, about post-war, about the power of the elves, stuff like that, when her mother and Cardinal arrived. They tell her that she needs to marry, 1. To leave an heir in case she dies 2. To settle the unrest of the nobles.
They also warn her not to go very far (such as promoting a commoner to a high position) or more unrest will follow.
Later, Saito arrived and they discussed about sending Louise and Saito to negotiate with Gallia (AKA, Charlotte) and prevent Romaria from gaining control. Though all three believe that Charlotte isn't stupid enough to play into Romaria's hands.
Then Henrietta proceeds to lengthen Saito's name and give him land (the place in the subtitle of the volume)! An incredible thing, and all two were stunned, but they both end up accepting in the end (Saito didn't feel too well over getting so much compared to everyone else, but Henrietta says that he can just give them what he feels like giving them and do something about it).
Louise worries over if she is worth being with Saito, who has become so great, and she also worries over if Henrietta had any other thoughts other than a reward when she gave Saito the land...
...

Chapter 4
Now focusing on Ryutis in Gallia, a castle is being built for Charlotte. The director, a noble, pisses off the workers like the noble idiot he is, but Charlotte appears and calms the group down, and tells the nobles to cool off the workers (despite them not wanting to).
In the meantime, Tabitha is thinking about what the Pope could be planning and all… Some political stuff I don’t feel like translating. As she headed towards the place Isabella once lived (see, side stories novels, not that I’m reading them)
They also mention that Isabella is missing, as the supporters of Joseph were thrown in jail the moment they were found.
Now arrived, she thinks about… well, stuff. How that after she stops the Pope’s crusade, she won’t need this position anymore and might as well hand it over to some trustable nobles, and how Romaria will probably use real powers (like Gallia) to fill in the gap of the lost void user, etc.
A knock on the door and the whatever Rose Knights come in and bring out Isabella, who they managed to find and capture. They leave the room to let Charlotte do what she wanted to her. As viewers expected, there is no way she killed her and instead, cut the rope that bound Isabella’s hand. Isabella picks up a paper knife and tries to stab her, but stops before the knife reached her… And… Well, hard to explain. Read it for yourself… All I can say is… It’s really saddening to realize how terrible of a father Joseph was… Well, not everyone can pick their parents, ne?
Still, Valhalla, huh… Heard that in Yugioh before…
Anyways, Isabella decides to work for Tabitha, then Tabitha brings her over and shows her her mother, who has regained her heart thanks to Bidashal’s medicine. Bidashal himself has returned to the desert, by the way. They all make up, realizing the foolish acts of their family have killed off everyone except these three and that they need to make up for everyone who died because of that family, etc., etc.
Afterwards, Isabella tells Charlotte she wants to become a nun and atone for her father’s sins, but Charlotte tells her that she needs her knight crops (the one Charlotte used to work in). Which Charlotte agrees, but she mentions that the best knights (4 siblings) that are even better than Charlotte had left the corps after Joseph’s fall…

Chapter 5
Louise and Saito go to look over their new territory. Of course, not just them… But the Undine, Kirche, Colbert, and Siesta as well.
When they get there, they find out that the area has been considerably abandoned, with old people left and the mansion being broken down. It seems that Henrietta didn’t check on the place before giving it to Saito. Louise, now relieved of her worries because his great mansion turned out to be… that, cheers up. Siesta is fine if she can live with Saito, so she’s happy. The Undine are disappointed because Saito wouldn’t be able to give them money anymore.
The end… As if
As summer vacation started, Saito and co. have managed to bring the mansion back into a living state. On weekends, he would go and look at the castle enjoyably and help around, they hired an old lady named Helen who did quite a good job of looking over the mansion while he was away, etc. Wonderful peace… And Saito thinks about how the only unfortunate thing is that he cannot tell his family about this. He feels that it’s fine if he doesn’t return, yet he doesn’t feel that way… He feels that he can no longer give up his lifestyle here, he felt whenever he saw Louise sleeping peacefully…

Chapter 6
First half was the comedic battle of Louise and Siesta over Saito theatre play!
Please read it for yourself. Good laughs…
Second half has Eleneor arriving and trying to drag Louise home, ending with Louise making a deal to teach Saito the manners of a noble until Eleneor comes by next time, and if she fails, she goes home.
--
Chapter 7
This time, the story starts by taking place at the place Eleneor works at, studying magic and how to use it. An associate (Vallery?) appears and explains to her about the fact that she was ordered to create a potion that would increase one’s magical strength (and along with that, emotions). Which both find odd because it was illegal in the past, yet now they are ordered to create it…
(Pope plans to use it against the elves… perhaps?)
In the meantime, mages/nobles plan to eliminate Saito, who was the one “dirtying” Henrietta/Tristein’s name. The leader had hired a group of mysterious mercenaries who were able to defeat all of the mages’ knights (as important people, they have guards with them after all) in little time and without anyone noticing…

Chapter 8
Saito is getting trained on noble manners, but no matter what he does, Louise wasn’t satisfied, and after her telling him that he needs to be noble-like or she’ll be embarrassed, he gets pissed off. In the end, Louise runs to the bedroom with teary eyes and locks the door. (Haa… Saito is one thing, but Louise’s “noble-this, noble-that” is as irritating as ever, poor Saito… Almost amazing he even bothers…)
Saito then has a peasant-like talk with Siesta over the tiring life of being a noble and how he just wanted to get along with everyone and that it would have been better if he didn’t become one if he had to do all of this and etc, getting depressed. Unable to handle the gloomy mood around (having it rough, huh, Siesta-chan…), she pulls out some wine for Saito. Then we have a little light seduction(?) scene with Siesta inviting Saito (Uooooooooo!! Kusooooooo! Switch with me, Saitooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), but he manages to resist, and soon Siesta falls asleep after the two drank some wine quietly together.
Saddened that Louise still isn’t able to accept him for who he is, he decided to get some more wine and finds a key, which opens the locked door to the basement, where he finds a secret tunnel to a bedroom…? That for some reason, does not seem to have been lived in (hiiiii!! Horror…). He finds a mirror, that starts glowing, seemingly by the key… The glowing mirror was like a certain gate he once passed through… Saito stared at it.
Henrietta is still worrying over her political marriage… Suddenly, she hears a sound and she sees part of the wall rotating like a spinning wall (or whatever you call those things) and screamed as a person appears…
Passing through the mirror, Saito finds himself in an area surrounded by walls. Pushing on it, he finds it rotated. Amazingly (more like, HAH?! Why?!), he finds himself in Henrietta’s room. Agnes rushed in, but Henrietta hid Saito in time and made up an excuse. With both confused, Saito finally realizes her rather thin outfit and she quickly dresses.
--
Chapter 9
Going back to the mansion’s hidden room, the two deduce that the gate was used by one of the kings to meet up with a mistress living in the mansion (Vanessa and Hinies, desune wakarimasu).
Which, made Saito nervous for obvious reasons.
The rest is… Aha… Very… complicated, feeling-wise… Umm… By summarizing, much things are lost, so don’t come to a conclusion while reading this and definitely see for yourself one day. Perhaps?
-Henrietta asks Saito to choose for her on whether to marry or not
-She talks about her feelings
-Saito realizes a part of him… to her… is…?
-The two end up kissing again (hai, again) by the way, this art here is dangerous… But Siesta’s my angel, so I won’t fall for her… Kuh… Nice try though… *coughs out blood* Guwaa…
-Saito tells her not to marry, so decides not to
-She asks that they sometimes might meet again, as friends
-LOUISE had seen the WHOLE thing
-She decides to leave, feeling that it would be best if she was not there (eh… How did we get there?...)
-So she does, feeling heart-broken.
…For some reason, this kind of development gives me a déjà vu…

Chapter 10
……Sorry, hahaha… In dead shock…
Hai…
Anyways, Saito ran out and chased after Louise after getting Derflinger, but he encountered two mages, a boy and girl, on the way. They asked for Saito, and not knowing anything (at this point, I was already “Oh crap...” though), he tells them he is Saito. They reveal to him they came to kill him (these two, and the other two are creepy…). And they proceed to have a fight (boy vs. Saito). The boy was strengthened with elven magic, and the magic potion mentioned back (that was the FLAG huh…!) that increased magic power, so he proved to be a powerful enemy. But Derflinger absorbed the magic power and gave Saito the chance to pierce the boy with his Japanese sword. However, in return, Derflinger absorbed too much magic and crumbled to pieces (this was what saddened Saito and gave him the speed to pierce the boy). But after piercing the boy, the girl who was watching knocks him out, heals the guy, and leaves because she got a message from the elder brother that the people who hired them couldn’t pay their money.
Needless to say, this was the group of four Isabella mentioned. (Janet, Dodo, Jack, Damian)

Epilogue-
Finally, we are introduced to a new character, Josette, a 14-15 silver-haired nun (no, not Index).
After two weeks, Julio appears. As one of the only things that come from the outside world, he is incredibly popular with all of the girls and all. Who cares about this bastard, let’s move on.
Anyways, he is especially close to Josette, who he considers like a sister. He gives her a ring, telling her it came from a king who died from an explosion. He also tells her that it has not been decided that it will be hers, but it would nice if it was… (Oh dear… In other words, this is a flag that she will be the new Void mage?! As that ring is one of the four rubies and that there is a chance she could be a mage, being abandoned and all…)

As that ring is one of the four rubies and that there is a chance she could be a mage, being abandoned and all…)
bah they just killed off one of the better characters in the series like that... seriously??
i mean he's absorbed entire armies worth of magic and he self destructs from that?? that's just meh... Honestly now i'm kinda expecting him to be rebuilt and be even stronger then ever cause that entire situation stinks of plot device.
and seriously no comment on the never progressing static romance...
SCREW SAITO!!!! that bastard is always cheating....Poor Louise...i really hope she does something like this to him!!! Some nice payback is in order...
Yeah .. poor Louise. Kinda tired with the "Caught kissing/flirting with girls and then ended up apologizing him routine". Just disown him Louise!! But then again .. if Louise just confess her true feelings for him, things might be different. Eventhough she doesnt want to admit it cause she's a noble and what not ...
if Louise just confess her true feelings for him, things might be different.
I doubt that. Saito on many occasions proved that the only brains he posess are located in his crotch.
Even if he would be married to a girl he would instantly cheat on her if he would see a pair of bigger boobs. The only way that a girl can ensure his loyalty would be if she had a biggest pair of tits.
Saito is a great character as a hero and so on, but when it comes to love relationships - he is a total scum.
