If you want to talk serious, I'll have you know the entire TF franchise is just one huge slick effort to sell toys. Nothing will change as long as Hasbro keeps pumping out figures after figures with each new productions. I will stop calling it an advertisment only after it has a classy production with little to no effort in pimping merchandise (See Dark Knight). Now, just how many fans dare not to admit they fall to Hasbro's marketing ploy and bought the toys one time or another ?
Now the fun in seeing this movie lies in watching the gross major display of Military Hardware, looking at the director's take on changing cheesy toy designs into something realistic, seeing mecha in action and finally the greatest joy lies in witnessing the mindless horde rushing for the toys no matter the pricings and being scalped despite the bleak economy. Sorry Vinak, I'm just not a Kool-Aid sipper...I think dissent is just as healthy..

I challenge any 7 year old in America that can transform an alien $hitship Megatron toy in under 5 mins without scarring palm and finger tissue…Realistic eh? Maybe this time around Spike, err Sam and Megan Fox will do a full-frontal Kama Sutra oil-bang on the hood of Bumblebee’s spanking new GM design (Not that I wouldn’t mind seeing that atleast)…My point, the toy argument is old…Make a movie that has the soul of the original work with cool action and the rest and you’ll STILL sell the toys…Unless of course you only believe the biggest hack in Hollywood Michael Bay is the man who can do this the best…Which I wouldn’t wanna see you answer this @ gunpoint…

To this I agree, Dark Knight is the most recent example from the West, Gundam OO from the East. It all depends on what the Director wants to do. But too much of this tasteful stuffs can result in.....Lee Ang's Hulk. Now was it a good movie, or do people just want to watch "HULK SMASH !!!!!"

Which is the crux of my madness...The director wants Bayformers...
Keep in mind, I'm not asking for some Oscar winning script or acting (which was the main retarded comeback argument from the 1st movie when people said they wanted something with the soul of the G1 cartoon)...Just something not totally generic and random...The first movie is so generic, you could pretty much name it anything and it would be the same...But as we all know Bay = Generic... If only Transformers had gotten a director that actually didn't think the show was a flaming pile of crap to start with...I was praying Bay cashed in on his threat to not make another TF if they supported HD-DVD...One's childhood can only dream...

hey you know what call me an action junkie or whatever you like i liked the way the script and mostly everything went for the first movie loosing the unbelievable crap that can only happen in a cartoon and trying to put transformers into a reality i could actually relate to the only thing i didnt like was that he focused too much on the human side of things especially sam... i hope he will elaborate on the struggle of the autobots and decepticons in the next film and just to say......i hav never in my lifetime bought a transformer toy but i watched every episode of the show

Just ask the average cinema viewers of what they want from TF. A backstory about Cybertron fall from grace with a lot of character development but little action or more of Autobots and Decepticons beating the hell out of each other ? Remember, the studio expect high returns from film such as this and they want the right man for the job. |

I always thought that it's kind of a shame how little cross-pollination there seems to be between Transfans (the kind you'd see on boards like 2005 and other TF-catering sites) and Gundam fans, but how and ever...
One thing I think fans from either side sometimes miss is the range of fictional material that is out there in the other franchise - and that you don't have to take (or leave) a TV or movie incarnation of either to be into the genre. Even if you count just the broad church of G1-dom, you can find a whole set of comics, series, even the odd novel or two, ranging from the first works released in 1984 right up to the comics and works being published in the present day - and that's even before you start going into the other continuity families out there. Indeed, the Movie-verse - or as it is referred to in-setting, the Tyran continuity family - already has a number of comic mini-series, the Ghosts of Yesterday novel, and further comics and novels set to be released over the next year or so... and these go a long way towards fleshing out the setting which most people were introduced to through the movie (but which was being shown in the preview comics months before the theatrical release). And some of the printed material out there in Transformerdom is pretty damned good. So, if you want to write off a given movie or TV series, by all means - but it's not necessarily fair to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

^Again people are acting like there can't be an action movie that adheres to a coherent and non-generic plotline or story...Like MacubeX2 said: Darknight did it, and I'd say IRONMAN too if we're talking recent...I am not aloof or ignorant to the fact there's loads of source material for EVERY comic-book movie...Most tend to focus on the most known stories, but that's not something I'm against (If the world is introduced and acknowledged properly), but we're talking about Micheal Bay here (Hellooooo)...The master of the 2-hr television commercial disguised as a movie...An arrogant hack who admitted to never liking Transformers, and purposely $hitted on the fandom when he was called out on it (Remember when TF was the most watched online trailer in net history and Bay was clueless to the fanbase)...
Determined to turn the series into Bayformers he pimped the scriptwriters saying he never even knew those kids were on the movie site...So please don't box me in as some irrational and rigid fuddy duddy who can't accept change...This is about a director who DOESN'T EVEN RESPECT THIS $HIT (How can I respect him or his movie?)...Additionally his style of making movies renders any kind of original or beyond generic plot futile....He's gonna porn-out the military, 360 degree someone turning their heads, show a million retarded, unwatchable angles, have a black guy make an F'd up joke, and film the sun setting...I've seen this $hit to the point of nightmares...To think something I loved so much as a child continued to be reduced into generic drivel with no soul is frustrating...Some can accept their Hot-Rod flamed Optimus' and FUGforming Starscreams (My favorite character who looks like $hit)...I simply cant, and being the masochist I am, if I open 1 persons eye to the virulent toxins of one Michael Bay,...I can sleep at night...

First of all, I think Michael Bay did a great job on the first one, sure it left out some of material but it is a live-action adaption, so it wont be the same as G1or Beast Wars that we see when we was kids, and it is going to be different. Okay, they put the humans drama before TF action in the first one but if it was reverse, people will complain about the same thing. Now this one, they are going to put more TF action and little bit less Human Drama with over 40 Transformers (with Constructions, Jetfire and even a Pretender in this one). So dont doubt or hate the movie before even it is out besides it is not good when you doubt something too soon, because it can be really good, then you will have to eat your own words (or in case of Arizona Cardinals, alot of people was doubt that they wouldnt even pass the first round, but they were 30 sec from winning the SB). For me, I cant wait to see this movie, I even get my wifey-to-be to go. Off-topic: With Transformer, G.I. Joe, and even Thundercats coming out on live-action adaption, I think they will do some other adaptions of other great cartoons. * Jayce and the Wheel Warriors * Silverhawks * Adv of Galaxy Rangers

He still has not answered my question though.
If Spielberg is to move from being the producer to the director and make a character drama about the fall of Cybertron or even a war drama in the feel of Saving Private Ryan, do you think people will watch it even without Bay's high octane action ? |

@Neki Echo - Well if you think Bay did a great job in the first movie, then that is a monumental difference in opinion no amount of rationale conjecture can bridge...It's funny how you minimalize all the problems you had with the movie, yet still try to convey it was great...That movie had no soul dude....The designs were mostly crap (Besides Jazz and Barricade), and the transforming was Terminator2 morphing liquid (go watch the final battle again and watch how cars just morph not transform)...Box-cutter characters, incoherent plotlines, and Bay's filming style (which is equivalent to my nephew dumping his box of toys all over the floor while I zoom in with my camera phone then later show it in slomo)...If you've seen multiple Micheal Bay movies there is NO WAY you don't know what to expect from this guy...But again if you think that's great, my words have no meaning for you...
Trust me I'll eat me words if this film rocks...I'll eat my words with sewage on top...But I know Micheal Bay, so I have no doubt i'll be eating a ham-sandwich after this movie comes out... Quote:

Take Lee Ang's Hulk in which he tired to infuse a deep philosophical story about Bruce and his father to the one released last year where the basic setup is just to pit the Hulk aganist the Abonimation and see which one did better. |

^I’m gonna say this one more time, I’m not oblivious to what you are saying….I too think it would be idiotic to turn TF to some soap opera, introspective drama (That’s retarded)…I’m saying that Michael Bay is incapable of creating a movie that has ANYTYPE of great depth in-terms of story or characters…I’m not fighting against tone of movie, I’m saying the director isn’t adequate enuff to produce a good, coherent movie that has the soul of what I loved as a kid….How can someone who thought the TF franchise was a joke to begin with and didn’t even want to do the movie create something that can truly be great (beyond generic yet awesome at times action scenes)… He wouldn’t do the movie unless he could rape everything G1 about it…Your telling me you couldn’t find a 30 something director out there that actually liked or could come to like original TF, and have him let the scriptwriters create something more than just a framework for Bay to insert every generality he inserts into all of his movies…While I’ve always thought his movies were pretty bad, he never had source material that I cared this much about…I could turn off my brain during “The Rock” (his best film to me) or Bad Boys 1 (Bad Boys II is horrific), but once he got his hands on something I truly cared about I knew he would apply his TV-commercial sensibility to something that could really be great action-wise and storywise…
Bay is an excellent TV commercial director, but he applies the same techniques to his movies leaving them with the same amount of depth found in random commercials…TF deserves more than that…That’s what I don’t think you get…It’s not about creating a movie with the wrong tone such as Anh Lee’s Hulk…It’s about being able to direct a better movie that has a certain amount of depth and great action… He can’t do it; he’s never been able to do it…However I do understand the level of def ears this falls on, but if I can change 1 mind, I’ve done something right…
