Misaki has consistently being portayed as unfit and physically weak like telepaths usually are in fiction. Mikoto would have shocked the cat unsconscious and Mugino would have blowed it to pieces.

I was going to point out that Mugino is a female too but then I remembered she's manly enough for all the Level 5's and protagonists combined. Maybe it has more to do with being Tokiwadai Ojou-sama's with no significant dark side connections or combat experience?

Not so shocked at Misaki's problem (Panther > her makes perfect sense).

But for the Level 0's > Level 5's thing, examples are of course Touma > Accelerator (Does. Not. Count), Hamazura > Mugino (actually a decent example!), and this is in the context of Mikoto struggling.

But yeah the male level 5's feel invulnerable compared to the females in general. Gunha is supposedly invulnerable in the literal sense (gunshot wound to the heart? No prob! GUTS!). Accelerator reflects things perfectly, and Kakine now has the whole brood thing down pat.

A mention of Gunha having problems too would have mitigated the unfortunate implications. It's not like the To Aru verse is particularly sexist. Most (all but one?) of the Saints are women and Othinus herself is the current Big Bad.

Clearly Accelerator just needed to be female to even things out on the science side.

Mikoto always hold back against normal human opponents. And Accelerator has holes in his defense if you look for them, plus all the choker problems. And as showed in this novel even Kakine has problems with his power.

I wonder whether that level 0 !< level 5 thing is just for story's sake, a minor bump on the road before a hero (ok, overused in this chapter) comes to the rescue?

Misaki can only influence human with such a powerful ability ? I expected she could at least freeze other brains-type by sending some sort of noise even if she can't understand the structure.

Erm... yeah.

But that specific text points out that heroes can overturn things even against higher levels.

So, even Mikoto will meet defeat if one of those heroes ends pulling the awesome card from their sleeves.

I thought that response from Biribiri was very out of character... she wants to preserve life at all costs, even Misaki's. I suppose the problem was that the story wasn't taking the threat from a big cat like that seriously enough. They can F*** you up horrifically, and FAST.
