While the marketing for Pacific Rim is something to be worried about, I think we should at least feel some relief that the marketing issue isn't as bad as with John Carter. That was a movie that generally nobody was excited about, and audiences could barely figure out what the film was based on the marketing.

Pacific Rim at least has a fair number of people excited for it, so perhaps that can translate into good word of mouth if the movie turns out to be good.

Sorry; dynamic content not loaded. Reload?

Less new scenes than the others, though a bit more spoilery this time.

Spoiler for Ouch:

Well like Avatar it's a pretty straightforward story. Giant monsters come out, humanity fights back with giant robots so no confusion there.

And yes all of the Geeks and nerds like ourselves would be aware of it.

John Carter of Mars should have been a simple movie that appealed to Geeks and Nerds to. Somehow they managed to screw that up.

The trailers didn't manage to show what John Carter was supposed to be about. Pacific Rim is more straightforward: Giant monsters vs Giant robots

And the PPDC site just got its final update:

PPDC Shatterdome

More comprehensive info about the Jaeger's histories, equipment, pilots and other information about the Shatterdomes. It also establishes that there have been 21 Jaegers in total built throughout the Kaiju War scattered throughout 8 Shatterdomes, all with individual names:

All we need now is art for all of them. Also, some may have caught this tidbit in the Under Attack feature, but the Jaeger pilots are called.... Rangers.

The premise of John Carter is earthman ending up on Mars, and being a super bad-ass warlord and fighting aliens and hooking up with hot red skinned chicks. This SHOULD have been a big deal movie for allot of pulp/scifi/fantasy fans, even if they were unfamiliar with the character. Somehow Disney managed to screw that up. And it was VERY lucky for them that same summer they got the Avengers.

Also, forbes had an article about Pacific Rim's marketing.

Great. People who are comparing this to Power Rangers are going to have a field day

Ok seriously, Crimson Typhoon is the first Jaeger to be able to use "kick attacks"...I mean really it just has to be the Chinese to figure it out

On that 21 in total...that's quite an attritional rate given that by the time the movie starts there are only 4 left.

And I see that Coyote Tango will be in the flashback since that's Coster's Jaeger which was involved in the defence of Japan.

I know they aren't going to let that up now are they?

As for the fight clip...wowsy. This movie cannot fail. Unlike John Carter Tor is a decent director so he knows what he's doing.

You can never go wrong with VOICE ACTIVATED ATTACKS

Also, the Kaiju look more intelligent than expected, going by how Leatherback used a crane as a makeshift weapon.

What are they gonna do, push a button?

(Jaegar is shown trying to push a non-existant button while being attacked)

"I can't hit the button!"

Well according to Crimson Typhoon's bio it seems that as the war dragged on the situation escalated as the Kaijiu seemed to be getting "Smarter" and "stronger" so that definitely points that they could very well be biological weapons created by an outside force to wage war against humanity.

On that matter....how many Kaiju are in the movie again? Do you think that during the movie they'll be several of the same types fighting the Jaegers?
