Shin Sekai Yori was totally awesome, I agree. I like Working!! from them too. That's why I said "sometimes". I didn't question their ability to make great shows, just the frequency of it.

This time, it seems like they put some serious effort and love into the character animation which makes me think they might have actually managed to assemble a good team to adapt something really charming. It just feels like things finally got together again.

This was suprisingly charming.

Vampire-chan was suprisingly cute for a very active girl and Dullahan was very fluffy.

Blonde vampires continue being the best, I see

That was a great SoL of the comfy kind, with the best part by far being the characters; Hikari is just so much fun, with everything she does feeling so natural, and the MC is actually pretty likable too. Machi was also quite adorable, of course

For some reason, the setting really caught me off guard, though it does have room for potential; Generally speaking, demi-humans seem to be accepted, but there's still awkardness at a personal level, if only due to lack of knowledge on how to approach them, which is perfectly understandable. My biggest concern is that we don't get see much of the non-human side of these girls and whatever implications it might have on their lives, though that might just be due to the designs, which, besides Machi, are very, well... human.

Regardless, very pleasently surprised with this one.

Yeah, a cool thing about words. That their preference (ajin -> demi) is exactly the opposite but with the same reason as a person's preference of ajin over demi.

Except "using English instead of Japanese in Japan" is a very mainstream form of "cool", and "using Japanese instead of English in the UK/USA" makes you a weeaboo .

I am kind of pissed they chose the English title to be "Interviews with Monstergirls".

If anything calling them "monsters" seems to be extremely contradictory to the show's message. It seems to be sheer marketing as there's no reason "Interviews with Demi-humans" could not work.

I actually think it works quite well. Take the vampire girl from the first episode, for example. Sure, she's got the temperance card (cookie if you get the reference), drinks tomato juice by the gallon, and makes do with her monthly unit of blood ... but deep down, it looks like she still kinda wants to suck the blood of everyone she meets. They function as normal members of society, but they still have impulses that others would consider to be monstrous; so keeping those monstrous desires under control is something they possibly have to struggle with daily.

I think the point was more a commercial one. We recently had both "Ajin - Demihuman" and "Everyday life with Monster Girls". They just wanted to signal that it was more similar to the latter than the former (which while true isn't entirely accurate either because many went into this expecting an harem rather than a slice-of-life).

I don't think "monsterous desires" is such a big problem in this one. Sure Hikari got the idea of drinking some of Yuki's blood, but it didn't seem like it was some kind of compulsion she had to fight.
Pretty much like our darker normal human thoughts. Like thinking about punching a slight annoying person in the face, even though we never really would do so.

Sakie-sensei on the other hand seems to be in a lot more problematic position. As a non-manga ready I don't know how Succubi work in this world, but I don't think she'll be getting sex crazy (For I think it's not this kind of series), but maybe she gets bothered and flirty enough for it to be problematic for her teaching job.

Or, seeing how they showed The Nightmare in her section of the opening, she might show up in peoples dreams in a erotic way when she goes Succubus mode.

so wait, Ajin & Demi-Human means the same thing? then what is up with the title of a series called Ajin: Demi-Human, you know the one with immortals that cannot be killed & can summon black energy ghost-things, so the title is literally "Demi-Human: Demi-Human"?

"Japanese-name: English-name" = wow, cool and trendy. As stated in the above conversations.

I think this is a marketing decision on the part of the licensing company, attempting to aim for the same crowd that was interested in that other monster girl series.

Yes, 'monster' is a more emotive visual description. This show is cute but rather quiet, without the succession of quick jokes and new idea that stop 4-koma SOL series from dragging. Slow pacing doesn't work so well either when we're eager to explore an original setting, but it does seem a good setting. The characters are good, and the deadpan is strong with that teacher. Blood drinking description was as interesting as it was funny.

I imagine succubi drain life force through sex?

That actually dovetails in asking about possible future content, and the anime threads are not the place to discuss material not already shown in the anime episodes proper.

If you do not wish to wait those sorts of questions a thread for the source manga should be created (if not already in existence).

Thanks for understanding.

not sure the title of this series using 'monster' instead of 'demi-human' is also an attempt to ride the popularity of Monster Musume despite the vast differences between the two series.

This series is more close to something like Hitomi Sensei, it is from the same "monster girls" theme but much more light and without complications. I don't think this is trying to steal popularity just for 1 fact, Monster Musume already gained a special place among all the "monster girls" themed manga out there, and obviously will always be more popular than everything else.

What is true is that after Monmusume hit and how successful it was, the adaptations of this kind of stories are going to be made more often without reaching the same level of popularity.

No offense to the source material, which I really really like, but something isn't clicking with me for Ep. 1 of the anime.
I've narrowed it down to the weird transitions (such as Sensei sees Hikari -> OP, or the sudden 'a few days later') and the overuse of screen wipes, which may have surpassed Star Wars as the de facto example of 'overuse of screen wipe' example for me.

It gets better when the script actually lets the characters sit in one place and talk, like in Sensei's office. That's where the comfyness of the series actually settles in. Machi and Hikari are just as cute as in the manga, but I think it would have been better if they didn't keep switching to Machi randomly which just threw off the pace.

Hoping for more Sakie-sensei next episode.

What a detraction from Monster Musume but in a good way (I did enjoy Monster Musume though)

I already knew Dullahan-chan will be my favourite
And as much as it's fun to have Hikari as a vampire, she would also fit as a werecat as well *hint: the hair
