It's a good thing Akira isn't beating around the bush. I like that she gets to the point and Mr. Kondo isn't avoiding the issue neither. People fall in love in mysterious ways. Sometimes after a while, it doesn't matter why you like the person in the first place. I like everything about this anime so far, the characters, the art, the mood, the music, story telling... (It may be the anime of the season for me.)

I love this show as well.

Probably won't able to contribute much to the discussion except to echo the praises. I did not think the manga left much room for improvement because the quality is already high with the characters' facial expression and storytelling, but the retro-ish screenplay/storyboard of the anime manage to enhance the whole experience further still. Both the music and sound directors are 10/10 too, great job from the VAs.

Very refreshing watch, drama done right! Look forward to this every week.

It is a good feeling seeing Akira being so clear-cut. Of course her first serious attempt in this episode was probably fueled by how emotional she felt after that incident with the track team. But it worked in her favor in pushing things ahead. The key was the follow-up and not relenting or allowing for misunderstandings.

Just consistently bringing it with strong episodes.

If you needed any other sign to decide whether to watch or drop, then this was it.

It's nice to see Akira being so direct. She doesn't give up just because her confession was misunderstood, she just confesses again. I'm curious to see as to what direction they choose to go from at this point.

Good lord, Akira's going in! I must admit the beginning of the chapter felt a bit off to me, but after we got to the track (Akira in a desk in the middle of the field made me chuckle, felt shaft-esque even) everything from that point forwards was great. Also, in another surprising twist, this time the guy is the one having the inner monologues! Guess it can't be helped; Akira is a girl of few words. Of course, its also great to know the thoughts from the other side aren't so simple either.

Another great episode. This is definetly some of the best stuff this season.

Episode 4:

Lol, Akira is so excited about the date. I mean, the way she reacts is just priceless for someone her age.

Her daydreams also feel more intimate too.

Glad to see Akira standing up against that blonde guy, Kase. On the other hand, Akira's date with Masami is kinda cute. A typical movie (horror theme!) and lunch together. She dressed pretty well too. Loved the character chemistry between them.

Ryousuke has taken the spotlight and with that bad things happened.

I'm glad that Akira managed to get rid of him even after all what he did, there is a nice contrast between the date with Ryousuke and then the date with Kondou.

Is really sad to see how Kondou is in some sort of permanent state of sadness, almost making impossible for him to enjoy the moment, I just want to see him happy.

Here is a little detail that means a lot on this episode.

I haven't watched the episode yet, but Wit is doing such an incredible job on this show. Even better than their work on Mahoutsukai no Yome. The pictures posted above look so close to real life.

This was such a GOOD episode! All that visual changes, the BGM, the symbolic stuff and ofc the mirrored date with the bishie cook and Mr.Kondo. It was all goooooood to watch~ <3

I liked the part where Akira just steamrolled Mr.Kondo when he tried to weasel his way out on the date and made him agree to let their date be on the Saturday. Or the part where she stood still for a while and then "GASP!!!" when she remembered her doodle in the book. XD
Ofc the "date" with the cook was awful, not a single eye contact during the whole date till he brought up Mr.Kondo and she just wanted to leave as quickly as possible. And then ofc the part in the café when the music changed and her eyes went dark when he basically implied Mr.Kondo is nothing but a replace for her love for running, a fake love. Damn! oO
And she was sooooo cute when she was all jumpy and giggly after Mr. Kondo's call and the dude had to ruin that too with his, although pretty much true, "advice" that she and Mr. Kondo won't work out. That kiss on the cheek was uncalled for though, personal space, dude, you ever heard of it? Really liked how she still wiped that part away at home though. XD

The Date with Kondo, gosh, Akira was SO BEAUTIFUL, DAYUM!!! ... sigh, dude, why would you go on such a Horror movie with a young woman and then not get it that afterwards she basically said she has already seen it? And he even wanted to leave as quickly just like she wanted but now she was the one making him go for a tea drink, making him just realize who old he is, how far away his time of youth is. And hell, he must still love his ex-wife if she is what came into mind when he was on a date with another woman. Can't fault him for that it sounded like a cute bitter-sweet experience. Poor Akira though. Mr. Kondo isn't only avoiding her because of their age gap and what people might think but most importantly because he doesn't want to get hurt anymore. :/

I liked the part at the station where the music stopped and Akira had that daydream about running up to Mr.Kondo and giving him a kiss on the cheek. Something that sounded so sweet, adorable and romantic, but now that she was a similar victim of such a tactic, all she did was daydream and not act upon it though she clearly wanted to. And I did thought for a second she really had done it! And then I saw her back at the "starting line", the yellow marking at the ground, from which she just walked away. In other words, nothing changed, no step forward. :c
And at home her mom hasn't thrown away the other movie pamphlet so now even Akira can't tell the difference between the date she hated and the date she loved and she really wanted there to be a difference. Heck, she even took that recipient home from that café to remember that date. ;A;

Awww, man, this is going all hard rock on my heart-strings!

I really want the full version of both the OP and ED, both songs are just so lovely to listen to and I like the lyrics as well.^^

That cook guy is a real creep, blackmailing a girl into going on a date with him. It could have been a lot worse, but what happened was enough to piss me off. I hope Akira will find a way to make him stay away from her.

Akira's reaction after Kondou called her was so cute. Their date was a bit awkward, but I liked how differently Akira acted. The two dates may have been similar, but as she said about the pamphlet, they were actually completely different. I think my favorite part was Akira attempting to put 45 sugars inside Kondou's coffee.

Kondou's recollections of his youth are always interesting, and what he said near the end made me feel bad for him. It's like he's reliving his youth, but he's painfully aware he's not young anymore and he believes things will never work out with Akira because of the age difference.

That was thoroughly unpleasant. The show already showed its balls with a confession on the third episode, but this was a bit much for me.

Can't say cook is good person, but outside of date itself he didn't request anything unreasonable, he is also right about whole that rebound thing.

I would say there is more to him than just being playboy. He might as well ends do some wingman work eventually.

Be happy they didn't showed that part in the manga of his thoughts about nude Akira where you saw blood drops on the bedsheet and he told her "so this was your first time drinking alcohol and your first time with a man?".

Ok...that was unexpected... and uncomfortable. And the story has the guts to make this guy the one to bring up the elephant in the room regarding Akira's feelings. This is not the comfy cutesy stuff I was expecting. To be fair, though, the actual date was muddled was Kondo's very justified and relatable thoughts on the matter. Being reminded of a time long gone by which wasn't, apparently, even that great, can't be pretty, and while Akira was in cloud nine, she has her own reservations, if that daydream sequence is any indication. One way or another, this ride is gonna get rough, it seems.

@James Rye
Holy ****! Good thing someone in the staff decided to leave it at mere implication.

That's probably as far as one can take being a sleazebag without being an actual rapist I'd think.

Akira and Kondou's first date wasn't what she wanted, but the tense and awkward atmosphere was justified. Akira is too nervous to really try to push things forward and Kondou keeps being reminded of a childhood that is far behind him. That being said, she was right about that date being different than her date with Ryousuke.

Akira's reaction to getting Kondou to agree to meet up with her was cute.

As if we needed anymore reason to hate the guy.

Yeah, the show isn't even really trying to make that guy likable. Just a thoroughly unlikable person with one thing on his mind.

I guess one thing you can say is that the major conflict won't come from Akira being uncertain about who she likes...

No doubt a bit of a inner conflict on Kondou's side. A reminder of time that has past and where he is now in his life. Although one thing that may come from all this is a reminder that he isn't dead and doesn't have to just throw aside those youthful feelings. But it is an element that will impact things for the both of them.

Anyways. I hope someone just murders that cook offscreen before the next episode...
