What you did wrong:
1. You put softsubs into AVI 2. You tried to watch softsubs without a softsub renderer The solution for #1 is to use a better container format, like MKV. (you could also hardsub, but that requires reencoding and isn't as nice) As for 2, install VSFilter (or just get CCCP). Or you could watch it in MPlayer, which can render subs by itself.

Er. Well. If you really HAVE to, the way to go is to use AviMuxGUI. But to view them, you STILL need vsfilter.

Hey guy, what you need is the vobsub package from http://www.afterdawn.com/software/vi...ols/vobsub.cfm
I dunno if vsfilter is the same thing or better or what, but after you install this, you just use the textsub filter to hardsub the SSA file into your AVI. You can also do hardsubbing from within avisynth, but that's neither here nor there. HE WANTS HARDSUBBED AVI, PEOPLE. NOT SOFTSUBS OR MKVs. >.> |

Ah. Well, what Starks said. To elaborate a bit:
1. Get VSFilter 2.37 from http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli 2. Rename the .dll to .vdf and put it in your Virtualdub plugins folder 3. Add TextSub as a video filter 4. Encode 5. ??? 6. PROFIT!

Decompressed encode? (Video->Compression)
2. Typically on 2-pass XVID on 2nd pass configure the calc accordingly 3. Avisynth( Fdecimate(23.976) ) though others like different decimators 4. I suggest using avisynth for all filtering if you don't already. via TextSub , Decimation, Smoothers, sharpen,( deen , edeen, convolution3d, FluxSmooth ) or something you like. And yes it can be fixed. Read #1 and #2 and #3 - and should be helpful enough to guide you to where you want to be. (Video->Compression->Scroll to XVID-> Configure->??? Do your stuff. |

VSFilter doesn't care either way, you can use both the SSA-style {\a6} as well as the ASS-style {\an8} in both ASS and SSA scripts. Take care with what type of styles you have, though.
