Haha, wow, the topic did take a 90-degree turn, didn't it? Still, it's always nice to see how different people tackle the same thing in different ways.
@WK: Yeah, I see what you mean. It's not until you really have the need to do something you don't like that you will develop the balls to do it. Happened with me when I got my license, and will probably happen again soon, since I'm encountering a huge difficulty in keeping up with my Otaku purchases with the small amount of money I can milk out of my mom every month. Funny is that I did apply for jobs a couple of months back, but I never checked to see if they had picked me or not... Another obstacle I'll have to face when getting a job is... how the hell am I going to go to work? I hate formal wear, so much that I've given up on formal parties, encounters and thigs of the sort. Black nylon pants, rundown skating shoes and a shirt are all I need! @tiachopvutru: * Does get teary eyes. * T-T... And, if you want my humble opinion, I'd say you're a mature guy/girl for your age. However, don't worry about going to anime to get good life lessons, because I've done it all along, and still do it to this day. Look, for the most part, I think that the values passed through certain anime series are worthy of absorption because they are useful and good. Obviously, you need to fish out the meaning behind certain things by yourself, it's not "in your face" as your instructor in an Army boot camp would have. I may have picked some bad habits, but some stories have inspired me to a great extent. Anime is where I get my drive from, and I won't give that up anytime soon, that I can guarantee. Unfortunately for me, my family isn't as close to yours in the expectation/pressure issue as I would like. They are known for being very stiff people who just can't let go of anything, and I was born and raised with that mindset. For example, I have to pick up the phone and call the IRS to ask a few questions, and so my grandmother asks me to go formulate a list of things that I needed to tell the person talking to me beforehand. While she's reading some papers, I grab a pen and start doodling on a piece of paper. Oh boy. I spent around 20 minutes having to put up with her hypersensitivity and things like "you don't pay attention", "you slack off too much", "you have no respect". Those and some other things build up, and I think it all has to do with the fact that I really don't feel like growing up anymore. But it's inevitable, and I guess I'm starting to accept it little by little. @Crystal Requiem: Well, "it's a small world" becomes even smaller when we're on the Internet. I've found quite a few people that are very similar to me in many issues around here, and even though we've grown to differ on a few things along the years, we are all still good friends. But it's good that my story has made you less uneasy about your own issue, even if by a little bit, then it has served its purpose. @TinyRedLeaf: I had to look that expression on Google, because I had never heard about it. But hey, thanks for the compliment And I actually feel more like Risaa and others, that I actually feel more mature posting here. Well, that may have to do with the fact that there's a large number of members who are 20 and older and who post regularly, including the guys you mentioned. It feels like being in a room filled with adults, discussing the classic arts and in which you aren't being discriminated for being young or fresh on the matter - except we're talking about Anime and Manga. And to be sincere, I've learned a lot of things posting at ASuki, directly or indirectly from other members. I've grown more confident when it comes to drawing and have been accepting my mistakes more easily. Still got a long way to go, but oh well. @Nightbat: Haha, I've had a beard ever since I was 14. Shaving daily since then But I kidn of agree with that quote you posted. I'm always being told what to expect and what to do, but that's based on their lives and experiences and might not apply to me ever. You could say I did get a lot of BS from all sides, and that I have my own BS to follow. Like it or not, its mine @Papaya: Oh crap, I didn't see it through those eyes... Perhaps "The Dreaded Day: Cavities" will be my next one But don't worry, I don't tend to go all-out like that very often. Last time I did it was way over two years ago. Though I kept it for myself, I think I had over 15 pages of crap written on Word. But sharing our problems with other people always helps, right? AA is there for that
