For those who have read it, how close would you say the end of the series is(How many more novels)?

I would hope a lot more novels to cover up until the SOS-Dan graduates...

It took eight novels for one school year to be told...

Damn, that was a fast response. I would like to start reading these, but it is already around 10 books. That is alot of reading, and if it turns into one of those type series that last for years, I really don't want to get into it.(Eyes the Ah my Goddess series, hitting 20 years next year)

Add that onto two other series with 10+ books a piece.....BUT next semester is coming up and I will need something to do while in class listening to lectures by professors.

I know that the show covered parts from up to 8...if I just you know, skipped out on 1-8 would I miss anything huge that the show did not cover? Kyon dating Suz or the time traveler, a big death, something to that effect?

The show only covered the first volume and some other random short stories from the other volumes. You'd be missing a LOT if you skipped volumes 1 to 8.

To be precise, the anime included:
6 EPs The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi (Vol 1)
2 EPs Lone Island Syndrome (Vol 3)
1 EP The Boredom of Suzumiya Haruhi (Vol 3)
1 EP Mysterique Sign (Vol 3)
1 EP Day of Sagittarius (Vol 5)
1 EP Live a Live (Vol 6)
1 EP Asahina Mikuru's Adventure EP 00 (Vol 6)
1 EP Someday in the Rain (Anime-only special)

The unanimated chapters would be: Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody (Vol 3), DISAPPEARANCE (Vol 4), Snow Mountain Syndrome (Vol 5), Endless Eight (Vol 5), Charmed at first sight LOVER (Vol 6), Where did the Cat Go? (Vol 6), Melancholy of Asahina Mikuru (Vol 6), INTRIGUES (Vol 7), Wandering Shadow (Vol 8) and Editor in Chief (Vol 8). Those and the not-yet-published Volume 9 story(ies) ;P

Well, Asahina-san and Tsuruya-san are in their 3rd year now, so it's interesting to see if Tanigawa will write about them after they graduate. But given that it's taken 8 novels to complete one school year, the story should last for at least another 8 novels ;P

8 novels covering a year is nothing, Shakugan no Shana had 14 novels already, and barring the prequel volumes, the story is still in the same school year when Shana entered Yuji's life.

O I can tear through books when I have time. But I am to be in flight training in three or so months, so when I am not flying, I will have alot of time. Guess I can start there. Are the novels licensed by any country that makes English copies or am I gonna have to read from the computer? It hurts my eyes to stair at a computer for more than an hour or so. If it is only on the computer I will print them out and read pages.

Also Shana is one of the series I want to read too.

This, Shana, Zero no Tsukaima, and would like to read the Inukami! novels if I can find translated ones.

This Sunday, April 1st. Release date probably intentional.

BTW, Shana is licensed by Viz for the English version already, with vol 1 due to come out sometime in April.

Yay, 18%. Looking forward to the "slider" Kyon seems to like to speculate about. Evidently the Evil Time Travelers don't count. Here's hoping slider powers are cooler than the esper powers turned out to be.

Bah, two novel threads, but the other seems to have more naked spoilers...
