In Love Triangles for some strange reason being well-endowed plays the part of a massive negative rather than a positive >A>;
I actually find it almost amusing that there seems to be a prejudice against mature looking female characters.
Supposedly, letting the nice, sweet girl "win" is to show that love isn't some shallow drama concerned with looks. Well, different cultures prefer certain types, but that's precisely why it's funny how it all turns out. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Macross is an anime where love is defined very strictly. There is only one love and that's the one we see at the end, when the choice is made. Everything that leads to this choice is necessary for it to grow and develop. In that sense there is no love in earlier stages. Attraction is a more suitable word to use. That concerns the person who is the center of emotional attention.
There is no possible way to diminish Alto's attraction to Ranka because doing so would abuse the whole idea of a triangle. If we look at everything that happened up until recent episodes, without considering our personal preferences, we could easily notice that all of this was a growth process. Each experience was a stepping stone leading to the final result. Bringing up self filtered episodes of the process and creating unbelievable and irrational statements is rather, how should I put it, meaningless now.
I hope this little summary will be somewhat useful.

In DYRL, Hikaru explicit states he wants Misa instead of Minmay. Minmay gets over it and after a time skip sings a breakup and moving on song (Tenshi no Enogu) at her farewell concert on earth before leaving with them.
for a break up there has to be a relationship, which never has been there[ AltoxRanka]. It might be a move on song. I think the relations in MF are more complex than SDFM. Both sheryl and Ranka have been in love with Alto since the beginning. In SDFM it went as a tag team,
correct me if I got the chronological order of the events wrong, it has been a while since i watched this!

Minmai was in love with another guy, hikaru was in love with MinMay, Hayase was friends at first with hikaru. then Minmay developed feelings for Hikaru, then hikaru developed feelings for Misa and then Misa also develops feelings for hikaru. As you see it is a little different here.
Except Ranka has already sung, Anata no Oto, and it doesn't appear to be a song about saying goodbye. Actually, it sounds like a song about waking up to a new life together.

might plausibly be what they're going for, but I hope not. I'd rather Brera and Ranka sort out their past and get a real shot at life in an actual rather than metaphysical sense.
