The US can be very friendly in some states, especially in the big cities but if you go to the "rural" areas, beware. I would say the most unfriendly places to visit in the US are Mississippi, Kansas, Alabama, Texas, Georgia, Alaska and Kentucky. There is lots of racism, low education and religious fanaticism going on in those places. Most of them are also amongst the poorest States in the country.

...uh yea, There are good and bad people anywhere, and urban centers are hardly paradises full of the former.

take a wrong turn in NYC, LA, Chicago, Detroit or any major cities, and tell me how "friendly" those areas are.

I hope you realize the irony of generalizing and stereotyping tens of millions of people while accusing them of being bigots

Margaret Thatcher (87), passes away.

Quote:
Margaret Thatcher, the first woman to ever serve as prime minister of the United Kingdom, has died at the age of 87. A spokesperson announced that she had a stroke, though she had been in poor health in recent years and was reportedly suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

A family statement (via the BBC) said "It is with great sadness that Mark and Carol Thatcher announced that their mother Baroness Thatcher died peacefully following a stroke this morning."

Oh, boy! That's a first (both in the sense of Buddhists inciting that kind of violence, and Muslims potentially tasting their own medicine).

Is this the kinda attitude most western cultures have towards indigenous cultures? I know this politician is right wing, which these kinda comments are a dime a dozen but it got me thinking about how white people feel with this kinda stuff/whether you even come across this kinda tension where you live.

You have no idea how often that has happened. You really need to open your eyes to the bigger world.

Islam is religion of violence while Buddhism is religion of herbivores. That's what my friends in college told me.

I'm sorry but where did you find that information ? If we kicked out or killed all Muslims then how can there be more than 40 Islam temples in Việt Nam and 64.000 followers, now ? In 1975, some Muslims did run away from Việt Nam but that's because false information and propaganda from US. Things like: Communist eat baby alive and communist government will prohibit all religion but Buddhist. Most muslims lived in the south so their information source came from pro-US sources ( They're Chams people, a ethnic group of Việt Nam ).

Here is the website of Việt Nam's Islam community.
http://chanlyislam.net/home/index.php

There's maybe not many Muslim in Việt Nam ( Islam was not in Việt Nam until 17th century ) but they has always been there no matter what the US said.

Also this, an Islam website have an article about Muslims of Việt Nam and Cambodia. I can't find where is the killing and kicking out Muslims done by Việt Nam unless you mean the stuff done by Khmer Rouge:

He probably was a member of South VN government until 30/4/1975. Most people like him often resent the current government really hard ( due to discrimination against people that worked for/with US and the time they had to spend in re-education camps, around 1975-1980 )so you should take every thing from him with a grain of salt. I won't say that everything he hate about the current government is wrong but when it comes to religions in VN ( In this case it Islam ), I can say there's no such thing as killing or kicking out people just because they're Muslims or Christian/Catholic.
