IMO A classic case of "Did Not Do The Research" for melee combat (hell, I'm guilty of that as well). If they say Fate's an expert melee fighter, than by god, make her one. Make her fighting style extremely complex.
I just don't know though. Without good examples, it makes it even harder to determine how wide spread martial prowess is, to know how she should react in thinking with an opponent actually smacking asside a Zanber 'I will CREAM YOU' swing like the ones she used on Jail in strikers. A strike that big has only two roads of attack, overhead, or baseball bat. (The first of which Jail CAUGHT, the second of which he just ignored and got smeared.)
One of the things I want to emphasize, is that Crash doesn't think of himself as a fighter. But he's standing up astoundingly well to a pair of Aces, in both tactical prowess, and on the spot skill. While claiming no skill, he successfully parries a Zeus Zamber and creates a counter opening. (Which he thinks along lines. "Oh, god now I've pissed her off...")
Congratulations for Anita getting the 100th page claim!

Well, to put it frankly, your concept of using an external power-armor and the reasonings behind it, coupled by THE WAY you used such tech in your scenarios, were enough to warrant it a pass from pretty much everyone. It might raise some eyebrows, sure. But your satirical and more humor-oriented stories were very good dampeners to any reservations or would-be reservations as a whole. Plus, considering it's Tsuzuki using the concept, plus no mention whatsoever of mass-production, along with the fact that a mainly magic-utility and mage-enhancing and not a gun-totting (as in real guns or similar) mech platform... Nope. No problems for me.

Okay, bad jokes aside, the idea is just for lulz and crack.
Spoiler for Something like this:
"So how did it happen anyway?" Fate was the picture of innocence as always, added in with a dash of confusion this time.
"Well Shamal had to remove the transformation spell placed on Signum for a mission but she was talking to me while doing so and she ended up being a tad heavy-handed while performing the spell."
"And to think it actually manage to transform Signum into that form. What a thing to happen." Fate's expression of helplessness was apt for the situation they were talking about right now.
"Well, personally I don't think it's too much of a bad thing. The effect shouldn't be permanent and probably won't hinder Signum from performing her duties at all. In fact, she might loosen up for a bit."
"Really? How is that so?"
Hayate managed a short giggle before continuing. "Well she even asked for a sparing session with Erio-kun since she got back.."
"Oh. Lets go check on them Hayate-chan? I'm worried the two of them might be going at it too seriously with Signum in her current form and Erio eager for more practice."
"Let's just take a quick peek since it's around the corner then shall we?"
As they approached the training room, it was clear that Signum was..well slightly more enthusiastic than usual.
"Going easy on me just because I'm in this form? Come harder at me Erio!"
"Erm..no! I mean yes! I mean..I'm coming Signum-san!"
What Fate and Hayate heard next was a jumble of shouts and thuds. Curiously, a streak of red light zipped past them at that time.
"Hehe that'll teach that red-headed kid not to underestimate Signum!"
Fearing that Agito's prank had backfired on the sparring duo, the two hurried into the room.
"Erio! Signum! Are you two all right?" Fate's panicked call as she stopped at the door to check on them.
What greeted them wasn't too bad in some ways, and yet worst in others.
Strada and Levantine were strewn a good distance from them while the two in question was framed in the center by Fate's view from the doorway. Though the two's position did leave some good doubts about what had happened.
Signum's hair was undone, the ribbon normally holding it in place gone, leaving her flowing pink hair to cascade down over the sides of her shoulders and onto the floor, over her sitting position on top of her prone sparring partner.
Erio meanwhile struggled for air as he found himself pinned by Signum in two places. While Signum did appear younger, her assets were still respectable and still managed to suffocate Erio under them. Though this was nothing as Erio managed to push his face out of them and the pink hair surrounding his head to a much more embarrassing situation.
Signum was sitting onto of his waist while he had lied flat down on the floor with his arms around her waist.
Turning to face the visitors, their response was expected. Well not quite.
"Ah Hayate. And Testarossa. What brings you two here?"
"Ohh! Hayate-san! Fate-san too! This is a mistake! I-!"
"Isn't this too much for relaxing Hayate-chan?!"
Fate was beside herself while Hayate poured lots of oil onto the fire.
"Well Erio-kun is a boy and he is going to be at that age soon but I didn't expect Signum to reciprocate in kind that daringly.."
Hoho~! Nice!
Signum's feeling the fun of being a kid!
Quote:
And what's this?
Spoiler for Omake!:
"Ohh! Hayate-san! Fate-san too! This is a mistake! I-!"
"Say no more Erio. I understand your situation perfectly."
"What? No! This isn't what it looks like! I just thought Signum-san would be a better person to practice with since you're always so busy..!"
"I had expected you to come find me for this kind of things Erio. Does this mean you do not trust me? Truly I'm disappointed."
"I'm sorry! I'll accept any punishment you'll mete out. Just forgive me please!"
"Well that would depend entirely on you whether I'll forgive you.."
"I'll do my best so please!"
"You'll do well with this kind of spirit." Fate said her hands went to Erio's chest and placed her face close to his, very very close. Fate's eyes were expanding Erio from within, and not mentioning the effect her breath was having on him as well.
A jolt came to Erio's mind as Fate's hand went lower. Much, much more lower.
"Huh?! What's this about Fate-san?"
"You wanted to learn about women and so I'm going to teach you.."
"Wait wait wait! That wasn't I meant! I-!"
"This will not do." Signum was a face of serious business as she cut in.
"And why is that?" Fate stopped mid-way though cuddling Erio.
For a moment, Erio thought he found his salvation. Well it depends, with what Signum had to say next.
"He came under my tutelage for this session first and I will not relinquish this claim. Even to you Testarossa. What he desires to learn, I shall be the one to teach first."
"WHAAAAAT?!"
"Mou, Signum. Erio is mine to begin with in the first place."
"That does not matter. I shall be the one to teach him anyway."
Erio looked towards his final hope of salvation.
"Looks like everyone's going to have fun with this. I still have some reports to wrap up so I'll have to leave first. Be sure to submit a report about what you learnt later alright Erio-kun? Ja-ne!" Hayate winked as she went out the door.
Which turns out he had none in the first place, leaving him to fend for himself.
"Erio." Signum's younger face was sorely testing his defenses.
"Erio.." Fate's face was inching ever closer to his..
"TASUKETE! AHHHHHHHHH!"
***
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH-ompfh!"
Erio found his face, thankfully, to be neither in contact with Signum's nor Fate's but the cool hard surface of his room.
Realizing he had rolled out of bed, Erio heaved a great sigh. He had managed to solve the highly embarrassing situation earlier today but what was with the dream he just had?
Shaking his head and crawling back to bed, Erio swore he would stay off any more 'picture books' Chrono or Vice had to offer in the future.
Okay what the hell did I just write?
*RUNS*
What the hell did you just write indeed...

In the old days, the Duels were held by the Belka Clergy who kept watch over the Tome of Devotion which did the recording of the Hero's Linker Core and thus strengthened itself. The Hero himself had one of his wishes granted, and as always that wish would bring great prosperity to the land, as only the purest of hearts could win the Duels.
During the chaos of the Belka Implosion, the Convent rescued the only Tome of power they could find and hid it deep within the Sankt Alexei Vault, along with all the Ancient Belka devices, technologies, scriptures they could find.
Years ago, a group calling themselves the Opel Magi managed to steal the Tome of Devotion during the sacking of Renault years ago, the fire that killed every person that Kha knew, and turned him into the Cleric. However, that book was surprisingly incomplete, lacking over 330+ pages. In order to complete the book, they revived the Pilgrim Duels, but without proper supervision the games went out of hand, and the first games ended up in the almost complete destruction of an Outer World.
Kha had the missing pages, craved out when he came into contact with the Tome. After hearing of the games 1 year before meeting Hayate, Kha vowed to stop the thieves when they resurfaced again.
However, Sophia, both weighed down by her father's wish to revive the Games and participate as well as her heart broken by Kha choosing Fate over her, has other plans...
Thus begins the events of Nanoha/Cente Gravia.
Oohh... Interesting. In a Khatastropic way!
This better be a good basis for Hayate to learn some close-range self-defense...

~~~New Intelligence Data Updated~~~
It's HERE! The big Vita & Signum patch you've been waiting for!
Vita
- Is now canonized as Servant Berserker.
- Graf Eisen's Simon-ism has been dropped.
Signum
- More crack regarding her life story has been added.
- Is now canonized as Servant Archer.
- Note the new sword flash attack! Dynamic Kill animation added!
- Several new Sturmfalke attacks added, of which one is just RIDDLED with crack. Can you take it?!
Go ahead, click on the above to take a look! Comments? Criticisms?
Not much of a problem there aside from the crack ones... though I have lingering doubts about the Knights becoming servants... And the Tome of the Night Sky's involvement considering it's supposed to be all gone by now aside from it's remnants inside Hayate...
Anyway, more about me...
I'm having a hard time with the current fights I'm writing; which are the Aurion vs. Hayate mock battle and the Grandis vs. Signum real battle...
The main problem in the first one is I'm getting in a bit of a tight spot with regards to Hayate's performance... She's, quite frankly, holding out quite well, if not almost constantly on the defensive. In a quick rundown without spoilering, here's her performance stats as of GenerationS...
Spoiler for GenerationS Hayate:
Range Attack:
Hayate is almost an all-out range attacker. As opposed to her usual nukes in most engagements, she uses Bloody Dagger and at times, Tesla's Blitzschlag in attacking one-to-one. I'm seriously considering giving her a slightly bigger spell for smaller engagements... but I can only think of Divine Buster (absorbed skill); but it doesn't seem to fit her style at all! I think I should make a new spell... And no, I don't think she would need an eternity just to cast something as simple as Photon Lancers or Divine Shooters if ever. Just a bit slower would do. (around 155% casting time compares to original users)
Melee Attack:
She's not good. She is NOT good in melee. And it'll stay that way. BUT. It's only in comparison to the likes of Signum and the others. She did say that she was no good. But frankly, I am not buying it wholely. So does she mean that she lacks so much skill that a kid civilian who just happens to know how to use a staff beat her?! HECK NO!!! I've been thinking about it a lot. And I've theorized that she is actually good, if only to be compared to normal people who don't fight in battles instead of Knights who are specialists. So she should already have knowledge to begin with, plus a year of improving upon it with Tesla's help. Is it fine if she actually does better than higher-ranked grunts at staff-fighting?
Physical Defense/Stamina:
She's rather fragile physically, since that's to be expected from her role. Not to mention completely lazing out of her physical training ([sarcasm]Um, hello? Do you even so much as STRETCH in the morning?! Push-ups?![/sarcasm] I know she's the Butaichou there, as well as being limite to A; [which, for all it's worth, held no value other than to write her out effectively off all save two battles {the last one being a lovely chock of vidclips showing Hayate floating around and nothing more}], but c'mon!) in StrikerS while everyone else sans Shamal (nurse/doctor) and Zafira (butler dog) were into so much training every single day for an entire year! But she's still in better shape than most normal people. (You just don't jump down from the top of a vehicle like it was nothing, like shown in StrikerS ep. 2) I'd give her some stamina as well; hopefully within reasonable bounds. I do hope it's fine if I said she's physically tougher than Shamal.
Magical Defense:
Here's the clincher in my story. No matter how much you say you lack in skill and dificulty in processing magic, having a crapload of mana while having weak magical defenses = DOES NOT COMPUTE! Does she really have a hard time tapping into her power so much that she would need an incantation for casting a simple shield?! I sure as hell don't think so and I'm totally not buying it until canon states otherwise. So in my story, her natural magical defenses are very good and hard to crack; at least requiring A-ranked (think Thunder Smasher of loli-Fate without cartridges) or above attack power to so much as properly hurt her minimally. Is it fine?
Tactical Ability:
Okay... She should be at least smart enough to last against even someone like Tesla for a while. I do hope nobody finds any problems with this. She actually sees thru a number of Aurion's battle plans in the fly.
Mana Capacity:
Need I say more?
Speed and Agility:
I'll give her good speed, but not good agility. So flying in a linear path should be no problem while high-speed maneuvering is not good enough so she should compensate with her defenses.
Spellcasting:
I gave her Tiara, so she now has an access to some spells by voice command ala-Reinforce. It's fine, right? Tiara's AI is passive, not unlike the original YnS so there should be no RH or Bardiche-like auto-saves for Hayate. Her spellcasting should be marginally better now as well, but she won't compare too well against Aurion since he can cast spells FAST.
It's hard. It's VERY hard. But she has all the potential in the world to properly cover up her weaknesses and eventually even go as far as holding herself against her fellow Aces. Anybody who wants to say it's impossible? Speak up now. They won't make the SSS-rank if there were absolutely nobody who reached such a level. (Not perfect, alright?) And I believe Hayate can, eventually. She doesn't deserve to be a shafted one-trick pony and I won't let her be! I'm going to show her potential here, and I need all the advice I can get to make it happen without much skepticism from others.
And once more, this managed to accomplish the feat of making me even more pissed off at 7arcs than I ever thought possible. -_-
Any thoughts? Should I lower or raise some stats? Any ideas for how much her performance could improve upon Unison?
Congratulations for Anita getting the 100th page claim!
The Knights are just strengthened, otherwise there's no real difference.
And that's Hayate's reaching out to them. Also, the ROM of the Tome wasn't destroyed, and allowed it to be an arbiter of the Duels like the other 2 Tomes.
Looks ok from here.
EDIT: It's awfully crowded in here! Looks like the markets are in for a Bull Run!!!
Thanks for the compliments! Kha thought I should grab that slot for Sophia's post cos she's worth it, but hope we haven't caused too much trouble today...
I won't be able to sleep until I fire this one off.
While thinking about aspects of Crash's dogfight, I know he's at one point, going to come into melee combat on the ground with Fate. In which, I have him flashback to some lessons Fox has given him on close combat attributes, on the advantages of parrying, or force redirection.
Thinking about it, I can't recall a single Nanoha fight where the melee combat actually shows any counter moves, parries, force redirects, thowing, or using opponent's momentum against them.
Fate is supposed to be very good Melee fighter, but just how good do we want to put her in pure martial skill when we never see a good example of a force redirection move? There's a huge number of massive openings to be made when an opponent commits to a high force move. Such as Vita's overhead with a hammer blow... Shove it off to the side as it comes down and lay a knee (Or blade, or spell) into her stomach.
All blows I can recall are direct blocks, or full dodges. Both are physically intensive, and often wasteful.
Comments?
This is one of the instances where I wish I could read the novel... In the anime, what is shown is most likely easily-animated direct attacks. And no, neither did I see anything that so much resembled a parry or counter-momentum strike. but this is where the fanfics comes in, anyway. If you were to ask me, Fate is good with weapons/armed-combat. That's the way she was trained since day-1. So I don't think she is unbeatable in hand-to-hand; but she should be pretty damned good still. The Knights, on the other hand, I don't know what to think.
Okay... She should be at least smart enough to last against even someone like Tesla for a while. I do hope nobody finds any problems with this. She actually sees thru a number of Aurion's battle plans in the fly.
Mana Capacity:
Need I say more?
Speed and Agility:
I'll give her good speed, but not good agility. Soflting in a linear path should be no problem while high-speed maneuvering is not good enough so she should compensate with her defenses.
Spellcasting:
I gave her Tiara, so she now has an access to some spells by voice command ala-Reinforce. It's fine, right? Tiara's AI is passive, not unlike the original YnS so there should be no RH or Bardiche-like auto-saves for Hayate. Her spellcasting should be marginally better now as well, but she won't compare too well against Aurion since he can cast spells FAST.
It's hard. It's VERY hard. But she has all the potential in the world to properly cover up her weaknesses and eventually even go as far as holding herself against her fellow Aces. Anybody who wants to say it's impossible? Speak up now. They won't make the SSS-rank if there were absolutely nobody who reached such a level. (Not perfect, alright?) And I believe Hayate can, eventually. She doesn't deserve to be a shafted one-trick pony and I won't let her be! I'm going to show her potential here, and I need all the advice I can get to make it happen without much skepticism from others.
And once more, this managed to accomplish the feat of making me even more pissed off at 7arcs than I ever thought possible. -_-
Any thoughts? Should I lower or raise some stats? Any ideas for how much her performance could improve upon Unison?
Now that's a good rant when I see one
No problems on my side, since I'd like to see Hayate beefed-up and get the credit she deserves
Spoiler for Promises of Today part I:
It would have been safe to say there was a lovely sky today. Clear and blue as far as the naked eye could perceive.
Unfortunately there was hardly the luxury of observing the scenery right now. Signum, Sword Knight of the Wolkenritter, wasn't the type to give much thought about matters like this anyway. Right now, she had a much more pressing matter at hand.
"Karyuu Issen!"
A pair of voices resounded and their attack lashed out, marking a series of explosions against the horizon.
"Ha! Lousy chunks of scrap can hardly stand against our combined might! Take that!" That was Agito, Signum's partner currently in unison with her.
"That takes care of the second formation. Are you detecting any more incoming formations Agito?"
"None as far as I can tell. Not to worry, we'll just smash any more that comes our way. Bring it on!"
Putting the pixie's bravado aside, Signum turned to more immediate concerns.
"Lightning Two to Long Arch. Requesting status report on the other squads.”
Lucino was quick to sound her reply.
“Long Arch to Lightning Two. Captain Testarossa has secured Jail Scaglietti’s hideout. Lightning Three and Four are there as well.”
“Stars One and Two are still inside the Cradle. Commander Yagami entered shortly awhile ago but communications have been cut off for some time now. Stars Three and Four are en route to the Cradle to conduct a evacuation and rescue operation if necessary.”
“I see." A slight pause before Signum took her next inquiry. "What about the summoner? Lutecia Alpino?”
“She’s been taken into custody by a squad from the 108th battalion after being secured by Lightning Three and Lightning Four.”
“I shall proceed towards the Cradle then. They might still need my help there.”
“Roger. Long Arch out.”
“Let’s go Agito. We are needed elsewhere.”
“All right Signum! ”
Stirrings in the dead of the night. A pair of bleary red eyes slowly came to life as an unfamiliar sight greeted her.
The ceiling. Why though?
Realization slowly crept in. Lying on a bed certainly afforded her such a view though she was none the wiser why she was in a bed. A wrecking ache to came to her as she tried to recall events before. It was almost as if her body was protesting for her effort to remember, her head screaming the loudest in particular.
Grimacing, Lutecia blanked her mind. For now, she had to be content about her totally unknown position and the events as to how it happened.
Though the weight resting on her right side did erase enough of that contentment to let her take notice of her surroundings again.
Shifting her half-closed eyes to the side, she made a silent correction to herself. Weights, as there were a pair of figures on her bedside. A boy with flaming red hair and a girl with pink, both to be around her age and clothed in brown had shared her arm as a pillow and were fast asleep at her bedside.
Erio and Caro. Was that their names? She had fought them earlier on..but how early had that been? A day? Two maybe? She couldn't tell amidst her hazy mind though memories were slowly trickling in.
Slightly annoyed, she left her arm as it was. She had no intention of waking up the two, even if they might be able to answer her questions.
Moving her eyes in a slow arc from the sleeping pair, she noticed enough to note that the room had been arranged to instill a feeling of peace and tranquility, suiting for rest and comfort as she was enjoying now.
Lutecia would have pondered more but she was suddenly taken by how very worn out she was feeling.
Her body was wailing at her for rest even as her mind worked. It was a losing battle of course. Mentally sighing, Lutecia pushed her thoughts into a corner, that some of them would be addressed the next time she awakes. Without the accompanying headache.
Two flutter of eyelashes before Lutecia joined the two by her bedside in blissful sleep.
Morning came and the Saint Church was wrapped up in sunlight again, chasing away the cold lingers of the night. A steady stream of activity marked the arrival of visitors to the hospital, many who were here to visit a relative or friend who had gotten injured due to the incident, bringing some needed comfort and relief to their loved ones.
For one visitor, that was not the case.She had neither brought gifts nor cards of well-wishes with her. In fact, neither of that was on her mind as she pulled up her car. Although it seem her companion was more enthusiastic about the trip.
"I'll go on ahead Signum. Leave your dour face at the front door before going in though."
Signum offered no reply to the jab but her sight was directed over the horizon instead, seemingly distracted. An illusion that was quickly dispelled as Signum shut the door of her car and entered the hospital.
EDIT: Kinda cheap but hey I want this 20k get.
And not forgetting..
"THIS! IS! OUTER CADIA!!!!!!!!!!"
"ORE TACHI WO, DARE DA TO OMOTTE YAGARU?!"
