A school trip to Italy. Yumi misses Sachiko. And it turns out that Sachiko missed Yumi, too: a simple, calm show, with a very touching ending. The straight hair and no pigtails were after a bath. More, please. I want to know who Yumi chooses. Which book should I read to find out?

it doesn't seem like yumi's hair style......i think shimako has her own style and i think it's more beautiful than yumi....

I really like Shizuka... pity she isn't in any of the series all that much. This episode was a bit of a treat for anyone wanting to see more of her. There were a few nice little touches that I think set it apart from the other OVAs, like the retro ending which I think was a nod to 'Roman Holiday'. I thought the animation and detail was a bit better than the others, too.

As far as I've understood it isn't as much a 'choice' between one or the other as it is just a final nail to the coffin at the end of a long series of events.
But that's what I've just read some random spoilers, as my Japanese is nowhere near good enough to read the actual books.

Kanako's problems are solved at some point in the near future and she's goes 'out' of the Yumi's sour-candidate picture in that manner. That's not to say Touko is easy bait, though...

And it'd be interesting if someone could update the spoiler synopses for the later novels in the sticky =/.


Anyway, there's more anime on the way now, so with any good luck they might even bring the events far enough to give us a resolution to that. In fact, it'd probably be the most sensible thing to do from a production/narrative perspective .

As for Episode 5: The production quality seemed to follow the steps of Episode 4 here mostly in my opinion. Well, they sure liked animating hair fluttering in the wind (oh god how I'm such a sucker for that ), but most of the mass-scenes were handled with stills again :/.
Otherwise, it was good, but not quite as good as the others in my opinion. The Yumi-missing-Sachiko thing was nice, as was meeting up with Shizuka again. Shimako at the end was awsome too, and the painting thing was sort of... cute? Well, it fits her.


Oh, and Yumi and Yoshino should totally start to wear their hair down <3. Well, perhaps there's a possiability for that once the girls reach their third year, if the series ever gets that far .

I have read some of the later novels. kj1980 has up to volume 19, so if I have some time this weekend I'll try and post a summary for volume 20.

I can't agree more:-)

One thing that I think is quite important to notice in OVA5 is how much the girls have come closer together, with each other and with their respective seours. I'm really happy to see that the entire scene of them saying goodbyes to the seours was not cut short (especially Shimako. And we finally get to see her room!)

Now, I should get back to watching the remaining 40 minutes

Does anyone know what Yumi wrote at the end of her postcard to Sachiko? I couldn't even vaguely work it out, though the interaction between them at the end suggested it was perhaps something a little romantic. I love Sachiko's blush ^_^.

Well, I've finally seen the rest of it:-) Definitely my favorite episode of the entire OVA series. 4th OVA fell a bit flat for me, but this has certainly bolstered my faith in the anime series.

As I said before, great interaction between Yumi's friends. Friendly talk amongst Mami and Tsutako. Yumi being supportive of Yoshino. The "Both are my best of friends" at the Sistine Chapel ceiling (?) was also quite touching.

There were a lot of still shots in this episode too, but I didn't mind. The animators must have had a great time reproducing the great European works of art I certainly enjoyed the tour of Italy (never been to Europe...)

You've got to remember that Yumi/Sachiko aren't exactly the most expressive couple(I mean seour) there is, so even this level of expression is quite embarrassing for both of them.

Shimako and Yumi's bangs aren't shaped the same, look closely, there's no doubt it's Yumi believe me (or watch the raw)

Beautiful images of their tour (never been to Italy too), and great moment for Shizuka-sama's scenes. her beautiful singing is as touching as ever

Unexpectedly, I found this ova a bit lacking in event, I prefered the 4th ova.
Yumi's line : "they're both my friends" made me laugh ! I understood it more like she was saying : "even though I don't understand this one's feelings (shimako), and the other one is as harsh as ever (yoshino), and they're both totally opposed, they're both still my friends" ! The contrast between their 3 faces while looking at the same piece of art was very funny !
