No, Mao certainly doesn't have anyone she would want revive and also that's not how that drug works in first place.

How that drug work was established in first season. You use drug to extremely slow down you bodily functions that you appear to be dead and then someone else use another drug to wake you up from that fake death. It doesn't revive people who kicked bucket for real.

And yes, despite her denial she absolutelly want it and that, because she is mad scientist who loves nothing more than medicines, poisons and drugs in general. Just prospect of getting something this rare would be enough to go with Suirei even without hostage.

It's funny how Maomao is finally wearing Jinshi's hairpin but he can't even see it .

Am I correct in thinking they misunderstood Maomao's message and the "Sui" was actually for Suirei? Since she didn't suspect Shisui of being an accomplice at that point. They had her point out the kanjis are the same too.

I'm glad Shisui isn't actually evil, although it's hard to tell what exactly she's been doing behind the scenes.

At least Maomao doesn't seem too miffed by the fact that she was kidnapped via a total bluff. She'll probably have to make her way back on her own. Since it'd take some masterful detective work to actually find her at this point.

I think she did suspect Shisui of something after she figured out she wasn't the normal servant girl she portrayed herself as, but even if the "Sui" was referring to Suirei instead the fact that Seki-U had that bonding moment with Shisui lead her to recognize the character and one thing lead to another...so it all worked out .

She doesn't seem to be a full-blown Villainess and the personality she showed around Maomao and Xiaolan seemed to be genuine judging by how she is in the village, but if she was working with Suirei then that means she is an accomplice and involved in, if not aware of, the attempts to undermine and take people in the Imperial Family out.

Though I don't get the sense it's something she really wants to or is passionate about doing.

Jinshi going to get hard carried by Maomao's dads .

Not really, there is a reason you kill an operative after they have done their job (or if they failed all the same): "Dead men tell no tales". The chinese were experts at torture, so the old lady at the clinic should talk fast, she might be a dead woman walking, but excruciating pain is nothing fun IRL. I will be surprised if after this arc ends we don't see (or hear) multiple heads roll.

No, she started to put things together when she saw the book on insects. And Shisui conveniently being there to be taken hostage was one more clue.

She's not tsundere at all about her interest in the resurrection drug.

When she was on the boat, she thought attempting to escape would put Shisui in anger, so she definitely didn't think she was an accomplice back then. She had most likely thought of the possibility, but that's not enough to put her name on the paper. Suirei makes more sense. As was pointed out by Jinshi, both Luomen and Maomao never share their deductions unless they're certain they're correct.

Oh, yeah. I just meant she definitely suspected Shisui, even if she wasn't sure.

Gyokuyou REALLY had to go into labor while Maomao was still missing...though good knows is they don't have to worry about a breech birth any more! That's fantastic news! But while it's one load off of Jinshi's mind, he's still a nervous wreck over Maomao .

I love how the Quack Doctor/Guen REALLY wants to help but the only thing he's qualified to do is take care of the OTHER Maomao. But at least Jinshi calmed down thanks to seeing someone whose more of a mess than he is .

So Suirei was working under the name "Tian," and the only clue they have to work from is the grave of deceased concubines of the former Emperor's Reign who never left the palace...where they meet Shenlu. And Jinshi makes the first big break of the case when he smells a smell only Maomao could have made. It's over, Shenlu !

It shows how serious Maomao's kidnapping is for Jinshi that he breaks character and throws the full wrath of Ka Zuigetsu at Shenlu, but he still needs to plaster Jinshi's pleasant and disarming smile...only it has the opposite effect on Shenlu who sees in him his (grand)fathers' face and voice, realizing who he really is, and being reminded of all the pain she had to endure because of the former Emperor. Pain that made her willing to go through all this and try to kill herself .

And it's not just the pain and the consequences of the former Emperor's reign that has dogged Jinshi since he was a child, he never resembled his (grand)mother Anshi so people accused him of being illegitimate. His self-consciousness and anxiety over being a prince caused him to run from it and become Jinshi, to try and make something of himself in the rear palace away from his princely duties. But right now he can't run away, not when Maomao is in trouble !

So how far down does this rabbit hole go? It seems like Suirei's mother was Taihou, the concubine who had the affair with the doctor and had her baby taken from her to be raised by her doctor father....and Taihou then went on to serve another concubine who went on to marry Shishou...and then they had Loulan who is now a concubine...oh snap, Jinshi put two-and-two together !

It was an ingenious plan, but they didn't count on the fact that Jinshi takes his job so seriously that the Garnet Pavilions' attempts to mask whenever their mistress was gone through various outfits and similar makeup/appearance wouldn't work since Jinshi made sure to memorize not only their names but also their appearances...meaning he knows that's not Concubine Loulan, but Renpu, one of her handmaidens. Concubine Loulan is gone !

The Garnet Pavilion is in custody, but that doesn't get them anywhere closer to finding Loulan, who is in the wind along with her father. Both are now wanted fugitives for a conubine leaving her post...but why risk so much ?

I guess it's not surprising Lakan would find out Maomao was missing and react as well as you would expect by barelling through doors and gates to the point of heavy property damage. What an overprotective papa !

But Lakan has ANOTHER kid also making moves...Lahan (Toshiyuki Toyonaga!), his adoptive son, and the brother Maomao never knew or cared to find out about! And he's as shrewd and clever as their father, albeit he points out some discrepancies in trade and metal buying that is suspicious...all so they can get a discount paying off the damages his father caused in his rampage. What a dutiful son !

Jinshi is still worried about Maomao, but so far she seems okay...even amidst a den of foxes .

So Jinshi is so disgusted by the Late Emperor that he wanted to believe the rumors about him being an illegitimate child were true (and I totally understand how those rumors got started), and tried as hard as he could to run away from his crown prince duties. But now he's forced to face the truth... except that's not exactly the truth. After the whole thing with Maomao gets resolved, I hope he gets to learn who his true parents really are.

Lakan finding out Maomao was missing was a lot funnier than I expected. His adopted son seems like a pretty shrewd one too, and now we have a dog to complement the cat! I'm pretty sure they will not get along.

Shisui finally confirmed to be Loulan.

Meanwhile, Maomao is actually having a pretty good time.

I wonder if we'll shift from Jinshi wanting to tell Maomao who he really is to Maomao wanting to tell Jinshi who his true parents are...though that might be out-of-character for her .

I think he's more of a fox, but they would probably get along like a cat and a dog .

I actually feel kind of bad for her entire pavilion likely to lose their heads over helping her masquerade...

kind of nice to see jinshi solving the case for now in this episode. It was a nice change of pace but since it involve maomao he gets angry pretty quickly.

I hope lahan is not a copy of lakan since I already dislike lakan. I don't need a younger version of lakan.

Since he's adopted, he probably doesn't have Lakan's face-blindness. That's bound to make a difference.
