I thought the most likely candidate for last minute reveal as female was Kagura too. Thing is though, it doesn't really add to the story. It's just a plot twist for the sake of a plot twist - which is what most of the plot twists in EVOL turned out to be.

You're misunderstanding. He's talking about the sunset scene in the beach, where they wait for Mikono and Amata and they eventually appear. The return of Mikono and Amata wasn't planned. So their fate was going to be inconclusive and open about their survival (just like Kawamori prefers).

Considering how a lot of people were apathetic to Amata and Mikono's romance, it seems like it would have been better if they had just left their survival open-ended.

Eh, I would have enjoyed the series much more if Amata and Mikoto died at the end. It's the least they deserve for all the trouble they gave everyone.

Yeah, when you look at it Evol exists as a result of Fudo/Apollonius being too passive.

Fudo has a gay angel living inside him now even though he doesn't love said angel anymore. So he has that punishment.

Would have been nice if the good guys actually won in Evol and the real villains didn't get that happy ending. Someone like Jin or Zessica deserved a happy ending, instead only the antagonists get a happy ending.
