As in, a plot device to show that no one in this show is safe.

If that will turn out to be his purpose then that's really depressing...

Here are my speculations (which don't touch on the one key plot development I've already been spoiled on):

Spoiler for Shin Sekai Yori speculations:

One way or another, Shun dies.

Saki and friends somehow manage to escape serious punishment for their actions, and are able to continue living in the village.


Saki and Satoru become very embittered over Shun's death and have a hard time moving on from it.

Maria gets pissed off/jealous over her lover Saki dwelling so much on the long-dead Shun. There's a highly emotional break-up between Maria and Saki. Maria leaves, and Mamoru goes with her.

Saki and Satoru do, yes, end up together as a young married couple. This is partly because they no longer trust anybody else except each other.

Beyond that... there is something I already know, and I have speculations surrounding that, but I won't get into it here.

Why even the author of the book described him as the protagonist...

Because the were just used as an example. If Satoru deserves to be called a protagonist and not only as a friend to the main character, then Maria and the rest of the gang deserve to be called that too. Because from the story point of view Satoru has nothing what makes him special compared to the rest of them.

From my point of view, you are trying way too hard to ship this thing. From 3 of nine episodes he played basically no role at all and in those 3 episodes nothing was going on that deseverd to becalled romantic or shipworthy.

At the momet this Anime is too far away from a romace story.

Here's the thing - I'm not seeing any indication that Saki or Satoru are even considering one another as romantic options. They're good friends, sure, but I'm not getting any sense whatsoever of them being romantically interested in one another.


Of course it matters what she feels now. And right now she obviously loves Shun and clearly sees Satoru as just a friend. And Saki has known both for a long time, so that says a lot.

On what basis do you think that Saki has a thing for Satoru? What piece of dialogue suggests that even in the slightest?

If there would be more going on between them, I could understand it but for now, not really. So come again with this topic if something happened.

I honestly yelled "NO!" when the credits rolled. What a cliffhanger!!

That was one hell of an episode.

I do think it could have still been better because certain parts felt rushed and jittery with the skips but that could perhaps also be attributed to artistic choice.

Can't wait for next episode.
