iOS Anime Playback
Anyone here watches anime episodes on an iPhone/iPod touch/iPad? This would be by transferring the file from the computer to the device.
I've seen a couple of apps, but the ones I've tried (VLC and OPlayer) don't work at all (MKV files with subtitles), they either freeze or remain in a black screen. |

VLC works with mkv on occasion, but its best to convert everything to *.m4v.
Handbrake has a nice iTouch preset to get softsubs to work: SSA/ASS: Select from drop down menu, check burn in, hit add. This turns them in to hardsubs. SRT: You can either get from the video or import one from an external file. burn in is an option as iOS does support softsub SRT somewhat. |

I already have VLC for iPhone (got it before it got pulled), and at least for the videos I watch (720p MKV) the whole thing freezes, and only audio comes up. I tried with several ones and ended up having the same results. |

At first I didn't want to install anything on my computer, but ended up doing it and trying the free version (limited to view 3 items on a folder). It worked pretty well, no delays and subs showed up just fine. The video (live conversion) was a lil blocky, but no biggie. IMO it was pretty good considering it's live and I don't have to copy anything. Tested with a couple 720p videos. |

Actually I'm about to go on a trip for a week and would like to know this too, but for actually playing and storing the videos on the iPad, not just streaming them.
I'll try hard subbing through Handbrake, but is there any program that will add ASS subtitles to an mp4? Handbrake and Yamb only do srt. |
