Gaiden should be 外伝 meaning side story. Which fits since I liked the how episodic it was, despite how predictable they were.

As Cinnamon said, this is not a continuation but a side story. The main LN is already finished alongside Violet's story.

Now, which character here should fit on that... can't remember anyone with a relevant screentime.

i thought that gaiden will be continuation of the light novel. At least we will see Gilbert x Violet scenes?

İ dont know why did studio change light novel? Because first chapter of LN wasnt about Violet but for me anime is very good because studio shows us many Gilbert scenes. Gilbert is really my favorite boy in the series.
